thebrainfollower Posted February 2, 2017 Report Posted February 2, 2017 I can only think the PWO experts can help me here. Can anyone think of any promos, interviews etc in wrestling history where the wrestler uses the word "Generation". This is the intro to a podcast I am working on, have recorded two episodes but need an opener. Title is "The Wrestling Generation Gap" so I figured that would be an appropriate starter. Want to avoid the phrase DeGeneration X except maybe once. Dates are helpful of course if any of you can think of an example
Log Posted February 2, 2017 Report Posted February 2, 2017 I can't give you anything too specific, but wasn't WWF around 94-95 referred to as the "New Generation"? Might be some stuff there.
PeteF3 Posted February 2, 2017 Report Posted February 2, 2017 "Long live the New Generation of the World Wrestling Federation!" That was a Diesel soundbite that played in a lot of WWF music videos of the time, usually set to his new entrance music.
Jimmy Redman Posted February 2, 2017 Report Posted February 2, 2017 Can't think of a specific one yet. The Young Bucks were called Generation Me in TNA so you might have some luck there if they used that in promos?
Flyin' Brian Posted February 2, 2017 Report Posted February 2, 2017 Wasn't there a stable in ROH called Generation Next too?
gordi Posted February 2, 2017 Report Posted February 2, 2017 Probably lots of "D-Generation X" in promos between 1997 and 2000, and also 2006-7 and 2009-10
Mrzfn Posted February 2, 2017 Report Posted February 2, 2017 They love to talk about second or third generation wrestlers on commentary, so anyone who fits that bill probably mentions it at some point.
Laz Posted February 2, 2017 Report Posted February 2, 2017 Not wrestling, but an easy soundbite containing "generation" can be found in the Mortal Kombat movie. Both Raiden and Johnny Cage's sensei say it, at the very least.
Flyin' Brian Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 The legacy theme song has the lyrics 'it's a new generation
thebrainfollower Posted February 3, 2017 Author Report Posted February 3, 2017 Would including JFK's generation line be considered bad taste?
Flyin' Brian Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 Would including JFK's generation line be considered bad taste? Not really wrestling related, but other than that I don't see anything wrong with it. It's your podcast. Lol
PeteF3 Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 So on that note, the first thing I thought of for this thread was George Costanza: "Bania is the voice of a generation--MY generation."
thebrainfollower Posted February 3, 2017 Author Report Posted February 3, 2017 What episode is that from?
Rah Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 25th September 1997, "The Butter Shave" http://www.seinfeldscripts.com/TheButterShave.htm
PhilTLL Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 I don't know what production this is from, but here's one of the usual WWE voiceover guys saying it a few times. I would guess the Randy/Bob Orton joint appearances from the 2000s might have one of them saying it. McMahon says "third generation" within seconds of Rocky Maivia's debut at Survivor Series 1996. And at the finish.
thebrainfollower Posted February 3, 2017 Author Report Posted February 3, 2017 I can't see to find the Diesel theme that opens with that line actually. Anyone have a link or a match that started with it they know of?
SteveJRogers Posted February 4, 2017 Report Posted February 4, 2017 Shane McMahon's return promo almost a year ago now where he mentions being a third generation, and looking out for the 4th (his sons), and beyond.
gingears Posted February 4, 2017 Report Posted February 4, 2017 Kurt Angle hits three of them rapid-fire at 5:40 of this video:
