STACY KEIBLER SIGNS NEW CONTRACT....WITH DISNEY

by Mike Johnson @ 9:35:00 AM on 7/19/2006

Now you can really call her a former WWE Diva. Stacy Keibler signed a talent holding deal with Disney's Touchstone TV studio, according to today's edition of The Hollywood Reporter.

Such a deal keeps Keibler contractually tied to the Touchstone while a TV project is designed for her and/or she is added to an existing Touchstone series. It would also give Touchstone the right of "first refusal", with Keibler contractually agreeing that Touchstone projects take precedence over any outside projects that could potentially conflict with her Touchstone projects.

Keibler broke out as a legitimate celebrity beyond her pro wrestling fame while competing all the way to the finals in last season's version of "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC. Her WWE deal is slated to expire by the end of this month. There are no plans by Keibler to return to the company.

Good for her, I guess. But it begs the question:

Will Vince now discourage, or at the very least be reluctant to let his employees participate in "legit" endeavors like "Dancing with the Stars" for fear they might be lured away? Personally, (and maybe this is because I don't watch much television and even when I do, rarely watch what "America" is watching) I didn't know or think that "Dancing..." was all that big or involved enough opportunity to make someone into a "legitimate celebrity" overnight. I had read reports that other stars on the show had encouraged Stacy to pursue other options and told her that she was "too good" for pro wrestling. I wonder what they saw because I certainly NEVER saw it, now or back when she was in WCW. Maybe I'm wrong. Stacy Keibler never offered much outside of a girl-next-door face and legs that started up somewhere near around her neck. She looked good in a business suit and glasses. Wow, big deal. To me, she was more part of the problem with women in wrestling than part of the solution: another ditzy blonde who couldn't and didn't want to wrestle (the best thing she did was a cartwheel that she likely perfected in the 2nd grade instead of with Fit Finaly) and was there strictly for T&A (of which, Stacy actually has neither).

With Trish headed for greener pastures (and The Rock solidified in Hollywoodland), it's going to be interesting to see how Diva Searches in the future turn out. I don't see WWE employing any new women with an actual upside or ability but rather more brainless, pornified and high-maintenance whores that Vince and the boys can screw for a year and then release until the next batch step up to "try out" the following year.

That plan, if you're a WWE employee, actually doesn't sound half bad.

Stacy is a really, really bad actress. I know that doesn't mean much in Hollywood but I can't imagine her playing a permanent role on a running series. Trish yes, Stacy hell no. Every role she has had so far has been a non-speaking, strictly T and A part. There's a reason for that

Think Lisa Kudrow...

Thin, ditzy blonde in a broad (no pun intended) comic-relief role in a show with an ensemble cast like Friends.

She's shown an ability to do that, on at least a small scale, in her skit-work with Stasiak, Test, and others over the years in WWE.

Not saying she'll be a hit on her own, but being in the right show will give her a nice career.

Well, they did recently hire all of those bikini models, and fired one of the lowcarders for dating one of them when the wrestlers were specifically told not to date them. The mindset was that only main eventers can have hot girlfriends without getting heat from the locker room. Yes, I'm being serious.

Johnny Ace is trying to get Trish to re-sign with WWE, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was because she mentioned her desire to embark on an acting career. I think Vince would go (more) insane if two women left his employ to become bigger stars. He wants to control the career of anyone who's ever worked for him, so he can take the credit if any of them happen to become a major star.

Dancing With The Stars isn't going to make someone an A-List celebrity, but it's a step up on the respect chain than being seen as a bimbo on a fake wrestling show. The people on Dancing probably thought that someone with Stacy's talent and ability was wasting it on rasslin' fans. Of course they're too good to watch wrestling or they'd realize that her dance and cheerleading past had been mentioned several times on WCW and WWE programming.

I disagree with this statement. For years, women have served as eye candy on the side without ever having to worry about stepping into the ring. Miss Elizabeth, Sunshine, Precious, Missy Hyatt, etc. Having ditzy blondes in wrestling isn't a problem. It is what the company does with those girls.

Precious never had a wrestling match that I know of but everyone remembers Flair giving her a fur coat. Missy Hyatt was a whore's whore but I don't recall her being in any match. Just because you are a woman in wrestling doesn't mean you should have to step into the ring. The fact the Fed wanted her to be a wrestler in the first place is just stupid.

I beg to differ. Stacy has the A (and the longest legs I've ever seen). But no, she really had no business ever stepping into a wrestling ring, which, as Will correctly pointed out, would have been fine if not for the insistence that anyone under contract has to wrestle.
