Atlantic Coast Championship Wrestling TV #6 Recap

April 20th, 1984

-Most of the show was dedicated to the April 14th AWA Atlantic Coast Heavyweight Championship 2 out of 3 Falls Match between Jack Brisco and Paul Orndorff, in which Brisco (subbing for Valentine) captured the title by beating Paul Orndorff in 2 straight falls. The match was shown in its entirety.

-Cameras showed Paul Orndorff arriving to the Sportatorium. Tony Schiavone catches up with him at the entrance to get his first words after his loss to Brisco. Orndorff says he won't make any excuses for losing that match to Jack Brisco. Orndorff might've been prepared for Greg Valentine but he should've been more prepared for Jack Brisco. Orndorff vows to soon get his hands on the Atlantic Coast Heavyweight title, no matter who holds the title.

-There was also a phone interview between Bob Caudle and Greg Valentine. Valentine claims that he was indeed called back home for a family emergency regarding his father but when he came home, he was told that there never was any family emergency. Valentine believes he was set up by Eddie Graham and ACCW management for what he did to Mike Graham a few days prior and he vows to make Eddie Graham pay for costing him what should be HIS Atlantic Coast Heavyweight Championship.

-Eddie Graham came out to join Bob Caudle at commentary. First, he denies having anything to do with Greg Valentine's claims and doesn't know who's behind it. Second, he announces a Gauntlet Match to crown the first AWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champions tomorrow night in Miami. 6 teams will compete and the one who'll run through the entire Gauntlet will earn the right to be the first AWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champions. Eddie Graham also announces that soon, he'll unveil details about the Contender's Crown, who'll give a powerful advantage to whoever will earn it.

-In another match at the Sportatorium, The House of Humperdink (Purple Haze, Kabuki & Konga, w/Kevin Sullivan, Fallen Angel & Sir Oliver Humperdink) destroyed the jobber team of Jeb Park, Derby Hopkins & Niles Coombs

Valentine took the mic and sent a message to Eddie Graham in the back that if he couldn't get the title, then no one from Atlantic Coast would get the Atlantic Coast Heavyweight Championship. Valentine and the Assassin left through a stunned crowd.

-Eddie Graham comes out but too late as Valentine had already left the building. But just to make sure he doesn't act up again, Graham orders the main event between Dusty Rhodes and Kevin Sullivan to be a Lumberjack Match with the whole roster surrounding the ring.

Lumberjack Match: Kevin Sullivan beat Dusty Rhodes in 56:48 after Fallen Angel used the chaos at ringside with all lumberjacks brawling with each other to pitch him the golden spike and Sullivan nailed Dusty with it to secure the win.

Wild series of events gets us from Brisco as the champion to Cuban Assassin and you can bet that things are going to get worse between Valentine and Brisco before they get better.....classic Florida type fun!

Huge win for Kevin Sullivan over Dusty in a Lumberjack.....hopefully the guys who had to be lumberjacks got some extra pay for having to spend nearly an hour at ringside for that match.

OH SNAP! Major upset as Cuban Assassin defeats Jack Brisco for the Atlantic Coast Title! Even with Valentine's help, this is still a huge win. Cuban Assassin will be coming back to TNT with one gigantic ego LOL.

I wonder who was behind the Valentine fiasco??? Graham says it's not him and wont tolerate Valentine's actions.

Dream and Sullivan gave the fans their money's worth as they go almost an hour in the Lumberjack match.

White and Weaver pull it off and win the gauntlet! The Rhodes/Sullivan feud is on fire.

Fun seeing Piper show up here.

Wild and crazy times in Florida!

Atlantic Coast Championship Wrestling TV #7 Recap

April 27th, 1984

-Most of the episode was focused around matches from the previous week, including The Cuban Assassin beating Jack Brisco with the help of Greg Valentine to win the Atlantic Coast Heavyweight Championship. A VTR segment with Greg Valentine and the Cuban Assassin celebrating with the Atlantic Coast Heavyweight Championship. Valentine says he might not be the champion but having someone outside of the territory holding it is the next best thing becaue he knows this drives Eddie Graham nuts. Valentine claims that Graham is the mastermind behind the family emergency that sent him back home and prevent him to compete against Paul Orndorff and he did it because he hates his guts. Valentine says that he has the control of the territory now and won't rest until Eddie Graham quits and sells the territory to somebody else.

-Eddie Graham came out for an interview with Bob Caudle and Tony Schiavone in which he denies everything Valentine said. Graham promises that Valentine will get what's coming to him in a very near future. Graham announces that he'll soon introduce the Contender's Crown, something that will guarantee the man in possession of it a future title shot to any championship in Atlantic Coast that he wants at a time of his choosing. Once that title match has happened, the Contender's Crown will be put at stake once again. The first Contender's Crown match will be contested on May 4th in Tampa as Jay Youngblood will take on "Avalanche" Buzz Tyler.

The action is heating up across the card here in ACCW!

Still can't wait to see who is really behind the Valentine situation. Got a feeling it is gonna be a shocker.

Mike Davis from out of left field loses his shit and costs Bill White the strap with the strap! Good stuff, but going after Liz is just gonna piss off the Link.

Youngblood and Tyler for the Contenders Crown on the 4th should be a good one!

Really liking this Valentine/Graham storyline. Cant wait to watch this unfold.

Davis snaps and becomes a "Maniac"! This new gimmick seems to be working because he took down another Maniac in the Missing Link.  I always love the creative gimmicks you come up with to spice up wrestlers.

The Contenders Crown should add a lot of intrigue to the title scene.

Sweet Brown Sugar comes in and wins the Florida title!

Always something happening in Florida!

You certainly have my attention with the Valentine/Graham angle.....can't wait to see how this plays out

Mike Davis has made a huge splash this week turning into a maniac and getting a huge win over the Missing Link, this is how you get a new character over quickly

I love Sweet Brown Sugar as Florida champion, he's going to be fun to watch here!

The House of Humperdink is dominating as to be expected....fun stuff so far.

Atlantic Coast Championship Wrestling TV #8 Recap

May 4th, 1984

-The show once again heavily features highlights from the weekly house shows in Tampa, Miami & Orlando, including highlights of the Dusty Rhodes/Paul Orndorff match in Tampa as well as Sweet Brown Sugar winning the Florida Heavyweight Championship in Miami the next night. Eddie Graham comes out and discusses all the happenings in AWA Atlantic Coast. Footage of an incident backstage on April 28th is shown as Jack Brisco is being brutally attacked by Sweet Brown Sugar, shortly after he won the Florida Heavyweight title. Jack eventually got stretchered out and sent to a local hospital. Eddie said he went to visit Jack at the hospital the next morning and Jack demanded to face Sweet Brown Sugar for the Florida Heavyweight title and he wants to send him back to his territory on a stretcher as well. So, Eddie booked a Florida Heavyweight Championship match tonight in Tampa as Sweet Brown Sugar will be defending the title against Jack Brisco in a Stretcher Match!

Eddie is then interrupted by Kevin Sullivan, Sir Oliver Humperdink, Fallen Angel and Abdullah the Butcher. Sullivan says that it's time that Eddie stops showing favoritism to the likes of Ricky Steamboat and Paul Orndorff. Abby wants to be considered in the title picture as well. Eddie says he'll offer Abdullah the opportunity to prove his worth during this weekend's loop. Tonight, in Tampa, Abdullah will wrestle Jerry Brisco. Then, in Miami, he'll take on Angelo Mosca inside of a Steel Cage. And the ultimate test, Eddie wants to see if Abby can wrestle one of his own. So, in Orlando, on Monday, Abdullah must face.....PURPLE HAZE! Sullivan & Humperdink are irate as Eddie Graham tells them he'll truly find out if Abby can be worthy of being in the title picture after this weekend as how he fares will be very telling.

Then, Graham tackles the sticky situation involving Greg Valentine and his new mercenary, AWA Atlantic Coast Heavyweight Champion The Cuban Assassin. Eddie wishes it wasn't that way but it is what it is. As much as he hates seeing his main title in the hands of someone outside the territory, he must deal with it. And so far, the Assassin has been a fighting champion as he's ll be defending the title on Sunday night against Bill Ash. Greg Valentine shows up to taunt Eddie Graham. Valentine claims that Assassin has already promised him a title shot and no matter what happens, the title will still end up in his control, not Eddie's. Graham tells Valentine that he still makes the calls around here and no one is getting a title match until he says so. If Valentine wants that title match, he's gonna have to put his pride aside. Eddie puts together a "Top Contenders Showcase" 6-Men Tag in which Valentine will have to team....with Ricky Steamboat and Paul Orndorff! Just like for Abby, Valentine's response to this situation will dictate if Eddie can move past his feelings towards Greg Valentine and grant him his title match. And the match starts....now!

Top Contenders Showcase: Ricky Steamboat, Greg Valentine & Paul Orndorff beat Anson Honeycutt, Kingston Mounce & Placid Abrahams. Valentine definitely wasn't on the same page than his partners and refused to tag them in towards the match, resulting in Steamboat & Orndorff leaving Valentine alone against the 3 enhancement talents! Valentine still was able to submit Honeycutt to the Figure Four.

Just wanted to try something different with Skip Young, but mostly, it was a transition that I wanted to do to explain Jack Brisco dropping the Florida title to Phil Hickerson 2 days later. As per usual, trying some stuff to see what sticks and what doesn't :)

Think about it this way; for Greg Valentine, it didn't matter who'd take the title from Jack Brisco when he did. As long as he could stick it to Eddie Graham for his believed perception that he was screwed out of this opportunity when he was announced in the match, that's all that matters to him ;)

Never a dull moment in Florida as Graham puts the wrestlers to the test.

Really liked that Sugar/Brisco/Hickerson storyline with Hickerson ending up with the title in the end.

I agree, watching what you do with a lot of low carders IRL is what makes this game so much fun.

Will Valentine end up with the title? I hope so, just to watch more of this great Valentine/Graham story.

Sullivan and his monsters are causing major havoc!
