15,000 plus fans have once again packed the Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas as AWA World Class Wrestling is set to present Memorial Day Star Wars! All of the champions of the American Wrestling Alliance are here! All of the World Class titles will be defended! The Von Erich/Freebird war will finally come to an end! Television cameras are rolling, Marc Lowrance is ready, let's head to the ring!

1) 10 Man Battle Royal for a Shot at the World Class Television Title

2) Dynamite Kid vs Brett Wayne Sawyer - AWA World Lightweight Title

Sawyer was over matched in this one, and The Dynamite Kid knew it from the beginning. He belted Sawyer with chops, out wrestled him on the mat, and generally worked circles around him. Sawyer got in a few impressive looking armdrags, and a nice looking dropkick, but the champion never seemed like he was in danger. A brutal looking belly to back suplex put the challenger away in just under nine minutes.

Winner: The Dynamite Kid

 

3) The Islanders (Samu/The Tonga Kid) vs The Moondogs (Spot/Cujo)

The Moondogs debuted and it was a spectacle. Spot came out with his signature bleached blonde hair and bushy beard, carrying a giant bone and growling at the crowd. Behind him came a 350 plus pounder that some of the Texas faithful once knew as Tugboat Taylor. He was now being called Cujo, sporting a bleached blonde mullet (thought his beard was still black), cut off blue jeans, no shoes, and a dog collar.  

They hit the ring and the brawl with The Islanders began immediately. If a wrestling move was used in this match, it was by accident. Fists, slaps, kicks, knees, chairs, bones, the guard rail, the timekeepers table, the bell, a camera cable, some ladies purse, and anything else they could get their hands on. The fight continued until they brawled out of the sight of the crowd, and presumably after!

Winner: No Contest

 

4) Sam Houston vs "Dr. D" David Schultz

Houston was able to frustrate Schultz in the early parts of the match using his quickness to stay one step ahead of the Doctor. Quick dropkicks, armdrags, and several moves off the ropes kept Houston on the offense. The tide turned when Schultz caught a crossbody attempt and smashed Houston with a backbreaker. From that point on, Schultz kept the pressure on before finally spiking Houston with a piledriver, and dropping the Elbow from the Second Rope for the victory.

Winner: David Schultz

 

5) The Youngbloods (Jay Youngblood/Mark Youngblood) vs Kim Duk/Mr. Saito w/Skandor Akbar

The Youngbloods received a warm welcome from the Dallas faithful, and they went on to dominate the opening minutes of the match using quick tags to confound Kim Duk. Eventually Duk was able to turn the tide, and Mark Youngblood was isolated in the Japanese corner where Saito and Duk took over and worked him over something fierce. Several times Mark came close to tagging in Jay, but each time Duk or Saito was able to cut him off. Finally, Jay was able to tag in and he took it to both Duk and Saito with huge Tomahawk Chops as the crowd went nuts. Soon Mark recovered enough to join Jay in the ring and both Youngbloods went wild! Mark and Duk went to the floor, and when referee Alfred Neely went to admonish them, Skandor Akbar reached into the ring and grabbed the leg of Jay Youngblood. When Jay turned to see what was happening, Saito grabbed him from behind and dropped him with a huge Saito Suplex. He then pinned him with a handfull of tights. Neely turned in time to count the 1,2,3

Winners: Kim Duk/Mr. Saito

As Duk and Saito were leaving the ring, The Youngbloods were heard saying they'd be back for a rematch!

 

6) The Junkyard Dog vs Big John Studd w/Skandor Akbar - AWA World Class Heavyweight Title

After several minutes of stalling by Studd had the crowd in a frenzy, JYD went nuts and started lighting Studd up with rights and lefts that had that big man wobbling. JYD launched himself off the ropes and nailed Big John with a shoulderblock that sent him out of the ropes and to the floor. JYD made the mistake of following Studd outside, and got himself run into the apron for his troubles. After that, Studd slowed the momentum way down, working over JYD with thundering hammer blows, shoulder rams in the corner, and a grueling chinlock. JYD would be on the verge of a comeback several times, but Studd would use his size to reel the Dog back in and keep laying on him. Finally Studd went for the Reverse Bearhug, but the Dog caught him with a headbutt. JYD used another, and another, and another and the big man was staggered again. JYD reached down and scooped Studd up and caught him with the Powerslam! Referee David Manning counted One, Two, Thr... Studd kicked out!

JYD was calling for another Powerslam when Skandor Akbar got up onto the ring apron. JYD wasted no time in grabbing him and was drawing back to punch him when David Manning got caught with the Dog's elbow! As Manning went down, Big John Studd latched onto JYD from behind. Akbar began to fumble with something in his hands, and launched a FIREBALL!!

But The Junkyard Dog ducked! The Fireball caught Big John Studd square in the face!! JYD quickly headbutts Akbar who tumbles to the floor. Dog grabs Studd who is holding his face and lifts him up for another Powerslam. Manning, still holding his nose, hears the impact of Studd hitting the mat, and drops down for the count. One, Two, Three!!

Winner: The Junkyard Dog

As JYD is heading up the aisle celebrating with the fans, Skandor Akbar climbs into the ring to check on Big John Studd. Studd is sitting up, and is touching his face, apparently making sure everything is still there. Akbar comes over and kneels down next to him and begins to speak. The look on Studd's face says it all seconds before he reaches over and wraps his massive hand around the throat of Akbar. Studd gets to his feet, still holding onto the neck of Akbar, then scoops him up into a huge bodyslam. Studd walks around the ring with Akbar for about fifteen seconds before slamming him in the center, then drops a huge elbow into the center of his chest. Studd shakes his head and then makes his way to the back to a smattering of cheers.

 

-INTERMISSION-

7) Hercules Hernandez w/Percival Pringle III vs DJ Peterson - AWA World Class Television Title

Hercules tried to intimidate Peterson by showing off his chiseled physique, but Peterson showed off his impressive guns much to the chagrin of Hernandez. The two locked up and the battle was on as they tried to muscle one another across the ring. From there this was a battle of punches, clothesline, bodyslams, and power moves to see who would budge first. Neither man did, as they were still slugging it out and trying to get the best of one another when the bout reached the Television Title's 15 minute time limit.

Winner: DRAW

 

8) The Road Warriors (Animal/Hawk) w/Paul Ellering vs The Russians (Krusher Darsow/Boris Zhukov) - AWA World Tag Team Titles

The clash for the AWA World Tag Team Titles opened with a bang as all four men met in the middle of the ring and just started throwing haymakers at one another. The Road Warriors got the best of that exchange and The Russians bailed to the floor. Once the match started proper the Warriors continued to get the best of Zhukov, and it wasn't until Darsow got tagged in and caught Hawk with a low blow behind the back of the ref that The Russians began to get some offense. They pounded Hawk unmercifully in their corner, making frequent tags and just using basic offense to keep the big man down. It worked for several minute, but then Hawk came roaring back firing fists at both men, then a huge dropkick at Darsow. Hawk tagged in Animal and it was powerslams all around, followed by a huge shoulder tackle on Zhukov. Darsow brought the chain into the ring and charged at Animal, but he sidestepped and Hawk backdropped Darsow out of the ring. Animal lifted Zhukov onto his shoulders and The Doomsday Device spelled the end of this one.

Winners: The Road Warriors

 

9) Barry Windham vs Dick Murdoch

The rivalry continues as Windham and Murdoch lock up again, and again they don't disappoint. A solid twenty five minute battle that saw both men throwing their best offense at the other, but the other is more than prepared for what is coming. The end finally comes when Barry attempts to repeat the finish of the first meeting when Murdoch goes for the Brainbuster and Windham rolls him into the small package. Only this time Murdoch knows it is coming and is able to kick out at two. Windham comes up quickly and goes for a Bulldog, but Murdoch shoves him off into the ropes and rams a knee into his back. Murdoch quickly spins him around, delivers a boot to the gut and hoists him up for the Brainbuster. Murdoch wastes zero time before he drops Barry down on his head, then floats over and covers him. Referee Jerry Usher counts One, Two, Three.

Winner: Dick Murdoch

 

10) Ron Bass/Black Bart vs The Blackjacks (Blackjack Mulligan/Blackjack Lanza) - AWA World Class Tag Team Titles

These four men began brawling before the bell could ring and the referee nearly tossed the whole thing out before it could begin. Bob Geigel made a rare appearance and declared that the match would now be held under No Disqualification Tornado Rules! The Texas fans loved it, Bass and Bart not so much. So the brawl began again and all four men were all over the place, in the ring, out of the ring, in the aisle, briefly in the crowd. Mulligan choked Bart with a camera cable, Bass hit Lanza with a chair, Mulligan tossed Bass over the timekeepers table, Lanza found a wrench under the ring and clocked Bart with it. This thing was utter chaos from start to finish. The end came when Lanza and Bass were brawling out on the floor, and Mulligan had Bart alone inside the ring. Bart nailed Mulligan with a clothesline, and then ascended the ropes for his Legdrop. But he wasted time yelling something at the crowd and it allowed Mulligan to get up and swipe Bart's legs out from underneath him. Bart felt crotch first on the top rope, and then Mulligan positioned him from there into a piledriver! Mulligan covered and that was it!

Winners, and NEW AWA World Class Tag Team Champions: The Blackjacks!

 

11) Hulk Hogan vs One Man Gang w/Percival Pringle III - AWA World Heavyweight Title

Hogan controlled the early minutes of the match, and seemed to have things well in hand until he attempted to bodyslam the four hundred plus pound One Man Gang. He managed to get him about half way up, but the weight of the big man was too much and he crashed down on Hogan. Referee Rick Hazzard got a two and a half count before Hogan kicked out. After that, the Gang took over, beating on Hogan with huge clubbing strikes to the back. He took him to the buckle and rammed his weight into Hogan repeatedly, then nailed him with a bid bodyslam. OMG dropped a big elbow into the chest of the Hulkster, and got another two count. Gang picked Hogan up and locked in a bear hug and began to squeeze the life out of Hogan. Hazzard checked the arm which dropped once, dropped twice, droppe...stayed up on the third time!! Hogan fired some punches at the face of the Gang who let go of the bear hug and dropped the champion with a clothesline. OMG had a look of confidence on his face as he backed himself into the ropes for momentum and dropped all of his weight onto Hogan with a 747 Splash.

Rick Hazzard count One, Two, Thr...KICK OUT!! Hogan came to his knees like a bolt of lightning! The Gang stared in astonishment as Hogan got to his feet and balled up his fists. Gang came forward and nailed Hogan with a huge punch to the face. Hogan began to shake his head like he could feel no pain. Gang fired another punch and another, and Hogan felt none of it. Then Hogan pointed a finger at him... YOU! Hogan began to fire right hand after right hand at the Gang, until he backed him into the ropes. Hogan whipped the Gang across the ring and charged him with a huge clothesline that left the Gang staggered. Hogan went into the ropes again and hit another clothesline that had the Gang teetering. Hogan motioned for the bodyslam, then hoisted the 450 pound Gang into the air and slammed him hard to the mat! Into the ropes Hogan went again, as Percy Pringle was frantic at ringside, and down came the Big Legdrop!! Hogan covered for the One, Two, Three!!

Winner: Hulk Hogan

 

12) The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy, Buddy Roberts) vs Ric Flair, Kerry Von Erich, Kevin Von Erich - Losers Leave AWA World Class

Tensions were at a fever pitch as all six men glared at one another during the ring introductions. As soon as the bell rang, the whole of Reunion Arena broke in to the familiar "Go Home Freebirds" chant that had been ringing through out Texas for over a year. Kerry Von Erich started the match and begged for Michael Hayes to oppose him, and Hayes obliged, only to immediately tag in Terry Gordy before contact could be made. Gordy and Kerry would jostle for position in the lock up and Gordy would drive Von Erich back into the corner. A huge forearm hammered into the chest of Kerry, then Gordy hip tossed him out into the center of the ring.

Gordy would drag Kerry into the Freebird corner, and the decimation would begin. All three Birds would take turns laying into Kerry. In and out they tagged, taking a few shots, doing the damage, never letting Kerry out of the corner. Hayes in particular was of note, stomping Kerry into the turnbuckle then strutting toward Ric Flair, drawing the ire of the AWA Southeastern Champion. As Flair tried to charge into the ring and was restrained by Alfred Neely, Buddy Roberts used the tag rope to choke the life out of Kerry Von Erich.

Finally, just when it seemed that Kerry was done for, Terry Gordy made a mistake. Gordy whipped Kerry into the ropes and bent down for what appeared to be a big back body drop, but Kerry was able to slow his momentum and blasted Gordy in the face with a big kick. Both men lay motionless in the center of the ring for several seconds, then both began crawling toward their respective corners. Gordy managed to make it to his first and tagged in Buddy Jack Roberts. Roberts came into the ring and tried to get to Kerry in time, but Kerry summoned everything he had left and leapt forward to tag in his brother, Kevin.

Kevin Von Erich hit the ring like a man possessed, and began firing punches at Buddy Roberts. Michael Hayes charged into the ring and he ate some punches too! Kevin whipped Roberts into the ropes and nailed him with a beautiful dropkick. Hayes was retreating to his corner, when a fired up Kevin grabbed him from behind by his long hair and smashed him face first into the turnbuckle. Gordy who was on the apron took a swing at Kevin, but Von Erich ducked the punch, then dropkicked Gordy from the apron to the floor!

Kevin was pumping his fist in the center of the ring as the Dallas fans were losing their minds, meanwhile the Freebirds were regrouping on the outside of the ring as Neely started his count. Roberts headed back into the ring and locked up with Kevin, and Kevin was able to keep up his momentum for several minutes, until Roberts reversed an Irish whip and Gordy stuck his knee into the back of Kevin. Roberts tagged in Hayes, and Hayes dropped Kevin with a nasty DDT that got a two count.

The Freebirds started the corner beatdown again, this time on Kevin. More frequent tags, each taking a turn, hitting a move, getting in a punch, and tagging out. Flair finally had enough and charged into the ring, chop blocking the knee of Terry Gordy, before being threatened with disqualification by Alfred Neely. Hayes came back in and hooked Kevin up for another DDT, but took a moment to taunt Flair, which allowed Kevin to reach down and sweep the legs of Hayes out from under him. Kevin got to his feet and stumbled to his corner, and tagged in Ric Flair!

Flair came in and cracked Hayes with a huge knife edge chop. Roberts charged into the ring and was met with a blistering chop of his own. Before Gordy could get into the ring, Flair headed to the Birds corner and blasted him with a right hand. Flair headed back over to Hayes and belted him with another one, and another, before maring him over and dropping an elbow on him. Flair took a couple steps back and dropped a huge knee on the head of Hayes.

Now it was Flair's turn, as he took over and began to work the leg of Michael Hayes with cruel precision. Elbow drops to the knee, kicks to the leg, a chopblock for Hayes, an atomic kneebreaker, and finally "NOW IT'S TIME TO GO TO SCHOOL!!" As Flair grabbed the leg for the Figure Four Leglock, both Roberts and Gordy charged into the ring and tackled Flair. Kevin and Kerry were having none of it, and entered the ring as well.

A brawl broke out among all six men. Kevin Von Erich and Terry Gordy began grappling and tumbled out to the floor, where they continued to fight as if nothing had happened. Kerry nailed Buddy Roberts with a series of right hands that backed him across the ring and had him reeling on the ropes, finally Kerry spin into a huge Discus Punch that sent Buddy up and over the top rope. Flair was getting back to his feet, as was Hayes and Michael noticed the referee was busy with the rest of the chaos, so Hayes kicked Flair hard in the groin. Fortunately for the Von Erich's, Kerry turned around from knocking Roberts out of the ring, and clotheslined Hayes before he could cover Flair.

Kerry pulled Flair over into their corner, and when Referee Neely turned around, Von Erich reached down and tagged Flair. Kerry, now the legal man, came into the ring and stalked Michael Hayes who was just getting to his feet. Hayes turned around and saw Kerry behind him, and began to beg off. Kerry shook his head No and began to fire punches into the head of Michael Hayes, again a huge Discus Punch followed and it sent Hayes into the ropes, on the rebound Kerry caught him with the Iron Claw!!

Buddy Roberts tried to get back into the ring to break it up, but Ric Flair came flying from out of nowhere and caught Roberts with a high knee that sent him back out of the ring. Flair followed him out, and the two of them joined Gordy and Kevin in brawling on the floor. Meanwhile Kerry cinched down on the claw and the blood began to flow from the forehead of Michael Hayes. Referee Neely lifted the arm of Michael Hayes....Once....It fell

Twice....It fell

Third Time....

It fell!!

Winners: Ric Flair, Kerry Von Erich, Kevin Von Erich

 

The Fabulous Freebirds must leave AWA World Class Wrestling

As the bell rings, Kerry comes to his feet and throws his hands in the air, blood dripping from his right hand. The brawl on the floor stops as all four men look into the ring to see what happened. Kevin rushes into the ring and throws his arms around his brother. After a moment of shocked disappointment, Buddy Jack and Gordy slide about half way into the ring and pull the bloody Hayes out by his feet, before heading to the back. Flair comes into the ring and nods at the Von Erichs before extending his hand to them. First Kevin takes it and shakes it. Then Kerry and Flair have a momentary stare down, before both men nod and shake hands. All three men then raise each others arm into the air as the Reunion Arena crowd goes insane.

Can't help but think that a Flair vs Kerry showdown awaits us down the road. Congrats to the Blackjacks for their championship victory!

Awesome show, top to bottom. The battle royal gimmick still works. The worst you can say about the show is there isn't a lot of stylistic variation, but this is the sort of balls-out brawling people want out of Texas. Put the war in Star Wars.

Great show with Flair and the VonErichs coming out on top in Texas.  Flair has been flip flopping a lot between face and heel which would serve him well down the road as a possible World Champ!

The Blackjacks work great as Tag champs in Texas.

Enjoyed seeing the Dog over Studd.  Interesting to see what becomes of Studd without Akbar.

Looking forward to seeing where the Freebirds end up.  They had a tough run in World Class.

Star Wars delivers!

What a great card....fun battle royal with DJ Peterson scoring a big win that got him a title shot against Hercules Hernandez and even if he didn't win it's a great way to establish him here in World Class.

Blackjacks get the titles, they still got it!

Flair helps the Von Erichs run the Freebirds outta Texas....interesting to see what becomes of this.

I have the feeling if you play your cards well, the Glamour Boys can be a solid midcard pretty face tag team for you. Not at the level of the Von Erichs, obviously, but very useful when you'll want to draw some solid heel heat.

Another nice set of house shows.  You do a great job of protecting your big baby faces by putting them in tag matches and 6 man matches where they rarely take a fall.  You also save your big feud matches for the larger shows which keeps us wanting more which is always good for business!

Star Wars was one EPIC event! You really booked the card well and the writing was tremendous. 

DJ Peterson gets over quick with a battle royal win and taking Herc to a draw. 

Dynamite retains in a solid showcase against Brett Wayne. 

Islanders and Moondogs give the fans a wild brawl. This could be a great mid card feud. 

Houston frustrates Shultz but Shultz comes back with a vengeance to get the win.

Duk and Saito establish themselves as serious threats with that huge win over the Youngbloods.

Akbar's fireball backfires and JYD takes advantage to retain the title against Studd. A new story begins as an angry Studd puts Akbar down! 

Road Warriors come to the big event and walk away with another successful title defense over the Russians.

Windham and Murdoch put on another classic but this time Murdoch comes out on top. Murdoch and Shultz could be great challengers for JYD. 

WOW! Blackjacks win the titles! Nice touch having Geigel come out and make it a No DQ tornado match.

AWA World Champ Hulk Hogan retains against OMG as he hits him with the almighty leg drop! 

WHOOOO! What a main event! That match was full of drama and excitement! Von Erichs win the war and send the Freebirds packing. I wondered about Flair at the end but looks like he savored the moment with the Von Erichs and will come back to Texas another day.

Love those big multi-man tags. Kevin's right, it's a great way to get all those big names in the ring together without giving away the money matches. I'm actually not a big fan of tag team wrestling - it's fine but I'd rather watch singles - but when you go to 6/8/10 man tags, it gets fun because you can tag in and out often enough that everyone can really put the pedal down and no one has to go too long. Really effective way to cover for limited wrestlers, or just showcase everyone's best stuff.

Marc Lowrance: Hello everyone and welcome to a special edition of AWA World Class Wrestling. I'm Marc Lowrance and this week I am coming to you from a very empty Sportatorium in Dallas, Texas. After the big week we had in Texas with Memorial Day Star Wars, and a few special shows the days following, the World Class front office has given the wrestlers some well deserved time off. So tonight, we are going to recap some of the action from Star Wars, and I am going to bring you some exclusive matches that took place this past Wednesday night when World Class made a special stop at the Lubbock Memorial Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas.

So first up, let's take a look at newcomer DJ Peterson, who made quite a mark at Star Wars when he won the battle royal to get a shot at Hercules Hernandez and the Television Championship, and then took the champion to his absolute limit and a time limit draw. It was a very impressive showing on his first night in the company, and this well built young man obviously has a very bright future ahead of him.

-DJ Peterson vs Bob Bradley-

Bradley charges the newcomer to open the match, and Peterson plants his foot and puts Bob down with a shoulderblock. Peterson scoops Bradley up and plants him with a bodyslam. Peterson briefly clamps on a chinlock to wear Bradley down a little further, then sends him into the ropes and catches him with a dropkick that is pretty nice for a guy DJ's size. Finally, Peterson heads up top and catches Bradley with a Missile Shoulderblock. The pinfall was never in doubt.

Winner: DJ Peterson

Marc Lowrance: Welcome back everyone! Before the break we saw impressive newcomer DJ Peterson pick up a victory. As I mentioned before, at Star Wars he won the battle royal and challenged Hercules Hernandez for the Television Title. That match ended in a draw, but when it's your first night in the company, winning a battle royal and taking the champion to the limit is quite a debut! Speaking of Star Wars, we are now going to take you back and show you some of what happened when Ron Bass and Black Bart defended the World Class Tag Team Titles against The Blackjacks! The match started off with all the men just brawling and the referee nearly disqualified everyone. One of the heads of World Class, Bob Geigel made an appearance and declared that the match would be held under Tornado rules. Let's see how things went down.

-Black Bart/Ron Bass vs The Blackjacks (Blackjack Mulligan/Blackjack Lanza) - AWA World Class Tag Team Titles-

...all four men were all over the place, in the ring, out of the ring, in the aisle, briefly in the crowd. Mulligan choked Bart with a camera cable, Bass hit Lanza with a chair, Mulligan tossed Bass over the timekeepers table, Lanza found a wrench under the ring and clocked Bart with it. This thing was utter chaos from start to finish. The end came when Lanza and Bass were brawling out on the floor, and Mulligan had Bart alone inside the ring. Bart nailed Mulligan with a clothesline, and then ascended the ropes for his Legdrop. But he wasted time yelling something at the crowd and it allowed Mulligan to get up and swipe Bart's legs out from underneath him. Bart felt crotch first on the top rope, and then Mulligan positioned him from there into a piledriver! Mulligan covered and that was it!

Winners, and NEW AWA World Class Tag Team Champions: The Blackjacks!

Marc Lowrance: Welcome back folks! We just saw new World Class Tag Team Champions crowned in The Blackjacks! That was at our big Memorial Day Star Wars show. That night also saw the debut of a new team here in World Class known as The Moondogs. There isn't a whole lot I can say, they kind of need to be seen. So let's head to some more action from our big show in Lubbock.

-The Moondogs (Spot/Cujo) vs Mike Bond/Mike Reed-

This was a mugging as Spot and Cujo hit the ring and just assaulted Reed and Bond for a good thirty seconds before the Referee finally managed to get Cujo to leave the ring. Spot beat on Reed for a while longer, and nearly got DQ'ed for biting him. He hit a nice powerslam on him before tagging out to Cujo. The three hundred and fifty pounder entered the ring and charged at Bond, knocking him to the floor. Cujo then ran across the ring and nailed Reed with a Big Splash! That was the end.

Winners: The Moondogs

 

Marc Lowrance: My goodness, those Moondogs are just a brutal and devastating team. The Blackjacks and everyone else in the tag team division had better be on high alert with them around. Now, speaking of Devastation, things did not go well for Devastation Inc at Star Wars. Let's look now at the closing minutes of the match between Big John Studd and Junkyard Dog for the World Class Title....

-The Junkyard Dog vs Big John Studd w/Skandor Akbar - AWA World Class Title-

...Finally Studd went for the Reverse Bearhug, but the Dog caught him with a headbutt. JYD used another, and another, and another and the big man was staggered again. JYD reached down and scooped Studd up and caught him with the Powerslam! Referee David Manning counted One, Two, Thr... Studd kicked out!

JYD was calling for another Powerslam when Skandor Akbar got up onto the ring apron. JYD wasted no time in grabbing him and was drawing back to punch him when David Manning got caught with the Dog's elbow! As Manning went down, Big John Studd latched onto JYD from behind. Akbar began to fumble with something in his hands, and launched a FIREBALL!!

But The Junkyard Dog ducked! The Fireball caught Big John Studd square in the face!! JYD quickly headbutts Akbar who tumbles to the floor. Dog grabs Studd who is holding his face and lifts him up for another Powerslam. Manning, still holding his nose, hears the impact of Studd hitting the mat, and drops down for the count. One, Two, Three!!

Winner: The Junkyard Dog

As JYD is heading up the aisle celebrating with the fans, Skandor Akbar climbs into the ring to check on Big John Studd. Studd is sitting up, and is touching his face, apparently making sure everything is still there. Akbar comes over and kneels down next to him and begins to speak. The look on Studd's face says it all seconds before he reaches over and wraps his massive hand around the throat of Akbar. Studd gets to his feet, still holding onto the neck of Akbar, then scoops him up into a huge bodyslam. Studd walks around the ring with Akbar for about fifteen seconds before slamming him in the center, then drops a huge elbow into the center of his chest. Studd shakes his head and then makes his way to the back to a smattering of cheers.

 

-Commercial Break-

Marc Lowrance: Hello again folks, as you just saw before the break, The Junkyard Dog is still World Class Heavyweight Champion. Skandor Akbar accidentally tossed fire into the face of his own client Big John Studd, and after the match Studd made him pay for it. Usually Akbar bombards the offices of World Class with demands on a daily basis, but no one has heard from him since that incident. So, Thank You Mr. Studd!

Now folks, before we get to our final match of the evening we need to talk about one more match that happened at Star Wars. As I am sure you have all heard by now, The Von Erich's and Ric Flair were victorious and The Fabulous Freebirds are officially out of AWA World Class Wrestling. So we take you now to two night later in Lubbock, where The Russians who were unsuccessful in their attempt to unseat The Road Warriors for the AWA World Tag Team Title stormed the ring and had a challenge to make!

 

We cut to Krusher Darsow and Boris Zhukov in the ring. Zhukov is holding the chain menacingly, while Darsow has the microphone, and the Lubbock crowd is boo'ing them unmercifully.

Krusher Darsow: ALL OF YOU PEOPLE SHUT UP!! We are sick and tired of being disrespected! We are sick and tired of being and cheated! Comrade Zhukov and I were cheated out of the World Class Tag Title tournament! We were cheated by The Islanders! At Star Wars, we were cheated by The Road Warriors! But all you idiots want to do is cheer for the Von Erichs!!

The crowd pops huge for the mention of the Von Erichs, and the cheers get even bigger when Kevin and Kerry come walking down the aisle and get into the ring.

Krusher Darsow: I get it! You Von Erich's think your hot stuff right now cause you ran The Freebirds outta here. Well, I'd like to see you do that to us!

Kevin Von Erich: Okay, let's do it. Losers Leave World Class... RIGHT NOW!!

The crowd goes nuts! The Russians nod in agreement, and the bell is rung.

-Kerry Von Erich/Kevin Von Erich vs The Russians (Krusher Darsow/Boris Zhukov)- LOSERS LEAVE TOWN

A solid back and forth tag team match for fifteen minutes, then it broke down when Zhukov hit Kevin with a blow blow when David Manning was out of position. A fired up Kerry came into the ring and laid out Zhukov with a huge Discus Punch. Manning was herding Kerry out of the ring, when Darsow entered and blasted the recovering Kevin in the face with the Russian chain, and placed Zhukov on top of him. The Texas crowd was nuclear as Manning turned around and saw Zhukov on top of Kevin. Manning dropped down and counted One, Two, Thr..KICK OUT!!

A huge reaction from the crowd as Kevin somehow managed to get his shoulder up. Both men began to crawl toward their partners, and both got the tag at the same time. A fired up Kerry came in and peppered Darsow with rights and left until he was sagging against the ropes. Kerry whipped Darsow into the ropes and caught him with a huge dropkick. A Discus Punch followed, and Darsow crashed to the canvas. Kerry held up his hand to signal for the Iron Claw.

A bloody Kevin entered the ring and tackled Zhukov who was coming in on the other side. Both Von Erich's applied the Iron Claw to their Russian adversaries. After several seconds Manning checked the arm of Darsow and it fell three times.

Winners: Kevin and Kerry Von Erich

Krusher Darsow and Boris Zhukov must leave AWA World Class Wrestling!!

 

Marc Lowrance: There you have it Ladies and Gentleman! The Von Erichs picked up another huge win in the main event in Lubbock, and The Russians follow The Freebirds out of World Class wrestling! Real housecleaning in World Class, first the Freebirds and now the Russians. Have to agree with what was said before - the highlight show really underlines the importance of Star Wars. And "war" is definitely accurate, so I'd say the wrestlers earned a little time off!

Jim Ross: Hello everyone and welcome back to AWA World Class Wrestling! I'm Jim Ross, and I'll be joined momentarily by "Cowboy" Bill Watts and we are back in the thick of things tonight after a well earned vacation following Star Wars. So let's head down to ringside where The Cowboy is waiting with a special announcement!

We cut to Bill Watts standing at ringside holding a microphone.

"Ladies and Gentleman, Thank You for joining us here tonight and Thank You for helping us make Memorial Day Star Wars a huge success. It was such a success in fact that I am here tonight to announce that we are gonna do it again! On the Fourth of July, at the St. Louis Arena in St Louis, Missouri we are going to present Independence Day Star Wars! Just like before it will feature all of the biggest names from AWA World Class Wrestling, the AWA Champions will be coming in, and tonight I am here to announce that we will crown a new champion for AWA World Class that night.

Each week we run shows in six great states right here in the central part of these United States, and we've decided to make a new title to represent the people that come out to support us each and every week, and to represent those states that are the lifeblood of AWA World Class. Beginning tonight, and for the next four weeks we will have qualifying matches until we have eight men set to compete. Then at Independence Day Star Wars, we will have a one night tournament and the winner will become the first AWA World Class Central States Champion.

Again, we want to thank everyone for their support, we look forward to seeing you at the arena's and that's enough talking, let's get to some action!"

The crowd cheers for The Cowboy as Watts hands the microphone to Marc Lowrance and heads for the announce position.

Jim Ross: Big news from the Cowboy tonight. Another Star Wars, and a new belt coming to World Class, the Central States Title. Now, like he said, let's head to the ring for some action!

 

1 Fall, 10 Minute Time Limit

-Jose Lothario vs Tiger Conway Jr-

Since turning on his partner several weeks back, Tiger Conway has become a different person. His afro is picked out as big as he can make it. He has begun growing a Fu Manchu mustache, and his usual blue trunks have been replaced with camouflage pants. A black glove and sunglasses (which he thankfully removes when the bell rings) round out his new look. When the bell rings he is much more aggressive, attacking Lothario immediately and relentlessly. Eventually Lothario started to mount a comeback, but Conway managed to get the ref out of position and kicked Jose hard in the groin. A simple roll up, with a hook of the tights brought an end to this one.

Winner: Tiger Conway Jr.

As Conway was celebrating his victory, Lothario was trying to tell Referee Alfred Neely what happened with the low blow. As Lothario was doing so, two large African American men dressed in military fatigues hit the ring and clobbered Lothario from behind. The slightly smaller one scooped Jose up and drilled him into the mat with a huge powerslam. The bigger one then bounced off the ropes and dropped onto Lothario with a huge diving headbutt, then when he rolled out of the way, the other nailed Jose with a big splash. As the two massive men came together in the center of the ring, Conway walked into the center of them and they all touched fists before walking out together to massive boo's.

 

-Commercial Break-

Jim Ross: Welcome back folks, before the break we saw Jose Lothario get cheated out of a victory by Tiger Conway and then get destroyed by two men dressed in camouflage. We have no idea who they were, but Conway certainly seemed friendly enough with them.

Bill Watts: The change in attitude from Conway over the last few weeks has been something to see. I'll admit that I've seen those two men before, but they didn't look or act like that when I knew them.

Jim Ross: Up next we have the first qualifying match for the Central States Title Tournament. We'll see Chick Donovan take on a newcomer to World Class, the masked Grappler.

Bill Watts: Donovan came close to being the first Television Champion, and now has his sights set on this belt. But The Grappler is a crafty veteran, and he is a dangerous addition to the locker room here in World Class.

-Chick Donovan vs The Grappler-

Donovan came out fast and tried to dazzle The Grappler with some quick arm drags and a big dropkick right off the bat. Donovan whipped Grappler into the ropes and went for another dropkick, but The Grappler held onto the ropes and Donovan crashed hard to the mat. After that The Grappler went to work, keeping Donovan on the mat with a series of wear down holds and driving him into the mat with slams and suplexes that had Donovan clutching his neck and back. Finally, Grappler drilled Chick with a huge Lariat and cradled him for the three count and the victory.

Winner: The Grappler

 

Marc Lowrance is waiting for The Grappler as he exits the ring.

Marc Lowrance: Grappler, welcome to AWA World Class wrestling, and congratulations on your victory which now qualifies you to compete in the tournament for the Central States Title at the upcoming Star Wars.

The Grappler: One down, seven men to go Marc Lowrance. I've wrestled one match in this company and I am closer to gold than most people get in their lives. There is a reason for that Marc Lowrance. They got a name for you when you're the world's greatest wrestler. They don't call you a great wrestler, they call you The Grappler. Beat Me, if you can.

The Grappler walks away as Marc Lowrance shrugs his shoulders and we cut back to the announce position.

Jim Ross: A man of few words, but an impressive win from The Grappler tonight Bill.

Bill Watts: For sure Jim. Let's take a quick break, and when we come back the new AWA World Class Tag Team Champions, The Blackjacks are going to join Marc Lowrance for an interview.

 

-Commercial Break-

When we come back from break, Marc Lowrance is standing at ringside with Blackjack Mulligan and Blackjack Lanza. Both men are in black trunks, black vests, black cowboy hats, and have the World Class Tag Titles strapped around their waists.

Marc Lowrance: Ladies and Gentleman, joining me now are the new AWA World Class Tag Team Champions, The Blackjacks! Gentleman, how does it feel!

Blackjack Lanza: I have to tell you, it feels great. It'd been a while since we rode together, and a lot of people wrote me off as being finished, as being over the hill. But I'm here to tell you that even if this is our last ride, we plan on making it one hell of a ride!

Blackjack Mulligan: I'd been out knocking heads in California for a while and I knew my partner here was teaching a couple kids some things down this way, but when the time came and he needed some back up against those so called cowboys Bart and Bass, he knew I was only a call away. Now, we....who's this....

On the other side of Marc Lowrance, stands a man wearing a bright red suit jacket with black trousers, a black shirt, and a pink striped tie. He is holding a tennis racket and has a look of sheer boredom on his face as the Blackjacks talk.

Marc Lowrance: Can I help you?

"Well I was just wondering if these two were gonna ramble on like a couple of Alzheimer patients all day, or if they were actually going to defend those tag team titles any time soon?"

Marc Lowrance: Who are you?

"Who am I? Well good lord Marc Lowrance, you really are just a microphone stand aren't you. Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jim Cornette and I am the manager of the best tag team in wrestling today, The Midnight Express. I was sitting in the back listening to these two ramble on about the glory days of Gunsmoke and The Rifleman, and figured I'd come on out here and introduce myself so they'd know the man who was managing the men who would be taking those shiny gold belts away from them, as soon as they decided that the osteoporosis had let up enough to allow them to step into the ring again!"

Blackjack Mulligan grabs Cornette by the jacket and Cornette immediately starts begging.

Blackjack Mulligan: I don't care who you are you little pipsqueak! You talk to us like that again, and I'll break you in half!

Blackjack Lanza: You think your Midnighters or whatever they're called are so good. We'll fight them right here, right now for these belts. The Blackjacks ain't afraid of nobody!

Mulligan lets Cornette go, and shoots a backwards glance at Lanza before turning his attention back to a retreating Cornette. The camera catches Cornette's face turn from a look of concern to a "I got what I came for" smile before he disappears backstage.

Blackjack Mulligan: You heard the man pipsqueak, bring 'em out, and we'll put 'em down.

The Blackjacks head into the ring to the cheers of the crowd.

 

-Commercial Break-

Jim Ross: Ladies and Gentleman, welcome back to AWA World Class. We've gotten word during the commercial break, that this is going to happen! The Blackjacks are going to defend the World Class Tag Team Titles against this Jim Cornette's Midnight Express and it's happening RIGHT NOW!

Bill Watts: This little runt Cornette has been slinking around our business for several years now, and there have been several teams called the Midnight Express, so I don't know exactly who is about to come out here. But when it comes to fighting an unknown commodity, there have never been two tougher men than The Blackjacks, so they likely aren't the least bit worried.

Jim Cornette comes back out from the dressing room with a microphone

Jim Cornette: Ladies and Gentleman, please welcome the next AWA World Class Tag Team Champions, Loverboy Dennis and Beautiful Bobby...THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS!!

 

1 Fall, 30 Minute Time Limit

-The Blackjacks (Blackjack Mulligan/Blackjack Lanza) vs The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton/Dennis Condrey) w/Jim Cornette- AWA World Class Tag Team Titles

Condrey and Eaton hit the ring in matching silver jackets, with red tights/trunks. Cornette meanwhile is a whirlwind of trash talk and motion at ringside. Mulligan starts the match and gets the best of both members of the Express, but they are quick to tag and not let themselves get worked over too much. Eventually Mulligan is getting the best of Bobby and tags in Lanza, who maintains control for a few minutes, until Condrey enters the ring and clips the leg. Eaton tags and Dennis goes to work on the fallen Lanza.

The Midnights keep Lanza in their corner and relentlessly work him over with high impact moves and frequent tags and score several two counts. Mulligan finally has enough and charges into the ring and a brawl breaks out among all four men. As referee Alfred Neely is trying to separate Dennis Condrey from Mulligan and push Mulligan out of the ring, Jim Cornette climbs onto the apron and blasts Blackjack Lanza in the back with the tennis racket. Lanza collapses and Eaton is quick to cover him. Neely turns around and quickly drops down to count the cover, as Condrey charges back across the ring and stops Mulligan from breaking up the pin.

Winners, and NEW AWA World Class Tag Team Champions: The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton/Dennis Condrey)

 

Jim Ross: Of all the low down...

As Mulligan stands over a recovering a Lanza in the ring, Bobby and Dennis are leaving with the belts and Cornette has stopped by the announce position.

Jim Cornette: Looks like Hoss and Little Joe didn't get all the cattle to the auction or something. I don't know, Mother never allowed me to watch that low brow entertainment! The rodeo is closed! The last ride is over! You have new Tag Team Champions Bill Watts, and they are the best tag team in the whole world! You're Welcome!!

Cornette reaches out and flicks the cowboy hat of Bill Watts then laughs and joins Condrey and Eaton as they head to the back.

Bill Watts: That little son of a bi...

Jim Ross: BILL!

Bill Watts: Let's go to commercial.

 

-Commercial Break-

As the show comes back from commercial break, "Dr. D" David Schultz is standing next to Marc Lowrance at ringside.

Marc Lowrance: David Schultz, we don't have you scheduled to be out here, we are supposed to be starting our main event.

David Schultz: I don't care what you have scheduled, I don't care about your main event. What I care about is the fact that I've beaten everybody that's been put in front of me. I've beaten everybody I've stepped in this ring with. Ya understand that? The only loss on my record since I come into World Class wrestling is supposedly to The Junkyard Dog, and everybody whose been paying any kind of attention knows that one was crooked. I should already be the champion. I should have won the tournament. But Dr. D isn't one to come out here and cry and whine about it, so I asked for my rematch. Did I get it. Hell No, I didn't. John Studd got it, and he didn't get the job done neither. So now I am coming out here in front of the world and I am calling out The Junkyard Dog!

Marc Lowrance: The Junkyard Dog isn't here tonight.

David Schultz: Well ain't that convenient.

Marc Lowrance: He was given the night off to visit his family.

David Schultz: Is that his Daddy in jail, or his Granny in the fields?

The Louisiana crowd does not like that one as the boo's come hot and heavy.

Marc Lowrance: I don't think that's appropriate.

David Schultz: Oh, now you wanna talk about what's not appropriate, huh? What's not appropriate is the so called champion of World Class sitting home acting like a coward! What's not appropriate is Junkyard Dog ducking Dr. D! So listen up BOY, and I'll speak real slow so that you can understand me.....I..want..to..fight..you..for..that..title! That's a challenge BOY. Now you just gotta prove to all your people that you got the guts to accept it.

Schultz shoves the microphone into the chest of Marc Lowrance and heads for the back to a heavy round of boo's

Jim Ross: First we have The Midnight Express cheating to win the Tag Team Titles on their first night in the company. Then we have this Jim Cornette getting you all riled up Cowboy, and now we have David Schultz pushing the lines of decency.

Bill Watts: Firstly, let me apologize for my slip of the tongue a little earlier. That little weasel Jim Cornette is the kind of guy you just want to punch, and unfortunately as long as I am sitting at this table, I am prohibited from punching anyone. Secondly, everyone at AWA World Class would like to apologize for the remarks just made by David Schultz. But I am sure once Junkyard Dog returns from his vacation, he will make Schultz pay for everything he just said and then some.

Jim Ross: Alright Cowboy, this night has already been wild, so let's head down to the ring for our main event. Another qualifying match for entry into the Central States Title Tournament.

-Ron Bass vs Kevin Von Erich-

Bass attacked Kevin before the bell and controlled the opening minutes of the match. Bass used his size advantage and a series of wear down holds to keep Kevin on the mat and managed a two count off of a powerslam. Bass attempted his Gourdbuster finisher, but Kevin was able to reverse the momentum and rolled Bass into a small package, that got a count of two. It was the shift in the match that Kevin needed to assume control and he began to work Bass over with punches and kicks, and then rocked him with a huge monkey flip out of the corner. A big dropkick caught Bass flush, and Kevin would go on to control the remainder of the match. He finally caught Bass with a turning flying crossbody from the top and David Manning counted the 1,2,3.

Winner: Kevin Von Erich

 

Jim Ross: Kevin Von Erich joins The Grappler as the first two men to advance to the Central States Title Tournament.

Bill Watts: Two matches down, and six more will occur in the coming weeks as we set the field.

Jim Ross: We also saw new Tag Team Champions crowned tonight as The Midnight Express of Bobby Eaton and Dennis Condrey along with their manager Jim Cornette have taken the tag team division by storm.

Bill Watts: I am sure The Blackjacks will have something to say about that.

Nice way to introduce new angles after a major show.  From the central states title to the Tiger Conway's heel turn and the arrival of his new friends.  This will keep everybody glued to their tv sets.  And then the bombshell... Cornette and the Midnight Express are HERE!  Awesome.  I loved that Cornette brought a quote form his mother to the first interview.  His mother should have been the highest paid person in wrestling.  His use of this mystical person was awesome!

Talk about opportunism: as soon as the Freebirds are out of the territory, the Louisville Slugger capitalizes and has the Midnight Express win the tag team titles. I'm not even sure the Von Erichs can stop him now!

Also love the addition of the Central States title. I think you can make a big deal out of this title and your roster has enough depth to make the inaugural champion unpredictable.

You did a great job describing the transformation of Tiger Conway here and I could really visualize the exact picture you were painting here, Conway and his tag team are going to be force here in AWA World Class!

I absolutely love the debut of Cornette...perfect promo and oh boy the heat MX would get coming in and taking the belts in their debut....amazing stuff!

While you could never get away with anything close to his promo today, that was classic 'Dr. D' and an absolute perfect way to sell out the buildings as he builds his title match with JYD!
