The Coachman punishment story was nuts. So did they work or shoot the finishes on him? I can't see them punishing him by saying, "you fucked up, now we must pick you up and put you down gently and safely to show you the error of your ways!" But it's also difficult to believe they would go all out and seriously fuck the dude up, either. Maybe just sort of stiff? The famed "3/4 legit," perhaps. Regardless, it's fucking crazy.

I'm pretty sure that Cole was an ex-Simpsons writer. I've read that a bunch of times.

Cole's not Jewish which is why I pulled in the Simpsons reference as he has worked as part of Jew Hollywood Satire Propaganda Machine.

I don't know where you pulled that factoid from. Cole to the best of my knowledge worked in TV news before joining WWE.

Guest Some Guy

Didn't Cole get beat up by Austin at one point? I seem to remember him getting his shirt ripped off and laughing at the fact that he of all people had a tattoo.

Yes, Austin beat him up and tore off his shirt shortly after he turned heel in 2007. It might have been the week after he beat up JR in OK. Plus, as was mentioned DX gve him wedgies and pushed him around a lot in 97. I'm sure there have been other things that have happened but I don't watch SD! at all and haven't for years. But he certainly hasn't been beaten up more than Coach, JR, or even Lawler as far as the announcers go.

Given that the highly anticipated and heavily researched part 2 never got published due to some MMA bullshit news, Vince's "death," and then the Benoit nightmare monopolizing the WON soon after, is the Ernie Ladd obit that DID get published now the worst/most disappointing modern era WON bio?

As part 1 of a multi-part piece it was good, as a standalone bio it was like only seeing the first 1/4th of a movie. As I recall it seemed to focus mainly on his football career. with most of the wrestling portion centered on how he wouldn't take shit from promoters.

Speaking of the WON, is it time to reconsider the concept that Dave is above being influenced by Gabe? Every week brings another hilarious ROH talking point that obviously came directly from Big Daddy G. Who would have thought there would be a time where Dave would suggest someone like Morishima is a better worker than Gordy?

More classic Kurt Angle.

On Predicting Benoit

“About a year before what happened I was talking to Chris – and they (WWE) were kind of running him ragged – and he pulled me aside and said: ‘Listen, I’m ready to snap.’

“And I could see it in his face, it wasn’t like a normal: ‘I’m ready to snap, I’m really run down.’ He was looking at me real intense like he was going to kill me.

“He got some time off but when he came back they ran him ragged him again and he ended up getting concussion, brain damage and somewhere along the line he did snap. "

On A Feud With Awesome Kong

“I wouldn’t lie down for her. I would let her beat the hell out of me but I would have to win in the end.”

On Triple-H And HBK

“Triple H obviously wanted to bash me because I was a better wrestler than him and I deserved to be in the spot that he was in but he was never going to give up, he’s Vince’s son-in-law.

“I had to deal with that stuff all the time. I’d wrestle Shawn Michaels and I’d get a little rough with him, then I’d get heat from Vince McMahon because I beat up on Shawn too much.

“So I’m like: ‘Well you know what, I’m tired of the two long-haired sissies. If they can’t go up against me then don’t put them up against me.”

Heidenrape.

I think you mean 2001 regarding Austin's heel turn. ;)

More great Angle goodness in this week's Observer, where Kurt claims that the woman who witnessed his drunk driving is, herself, and drunk. He claims the woman purchased enough booze earlier in the day to kill 3 people.

Kurt is always working.

Meltzer was pushing the Morishima as great heavyweight vis a vis Gordy thing since before Morishima went to ROH.

Fuck if I can remember the shitty tag match where Meltzer first expressed that belief.

My guess is that the Meltzer talking point was one of reasons Gabe decided to do the Morishima run.

Is Dave "above being influenced by Gabe"?

Was Dave above being influenced by Heyman?

Is Dave above being influenced by Ross?

Is Dave above being influenced by Konnan?

Clealry no. but the Morishima as amazing heavyweight who moves like a junior was a Meltzer talking point is proably the first place Gabe heard of Morishima.

Wild II vs. KENTAfuji from the 7/06 Budokan show, if I remember correctly. Although I also remember that match being pretty awesome, but not quite as awesome as advertised, fwiw.

That was definitely the match that got him talking about Morishima as a revolutionary heavyweight. I just never remembered him actually putting Mori above Gordy. Anyway, yeah, that match actually was good and Morishima had some very good matches in 2007. I'm rooting for the guy, but he's had what, maybe 10 excellent matches in his career?

.

The exact quote may have been that he will "become a better version of Gordy" or something like that. He may not have said better than Gody at that moment but (assuming my memory is worth anything) I think the Gordy comparison started there.

I love 'Storytime with Kurt', always a crack-up. Anybody have the exact quote where Kurt was telling a story about how Triple H didn't want to job to Kurt because he wasn't credible, and Gerry Brisco said "Who would win in a shoot?"

From the 3/17/08 Observer:

"While they were not in the best match, the most impressive workers were Bryan Danielson and Takeshi Morishima, who continued their feud in a brawling style short match. With no Chris Benoit, and with Samoa Joe and Fit Finlay not having any recent mathces that stand out, these two came across in the ring as being the best workers in North America."

"Morishima is now like a better working and fatter version of Terry Gordy. He can get away with it because he's so good, but in the long run, if he doesn't want his joints to start turning against him, he needs to drop a good 40 pounds."

And can we stop referring to EVERYTHING as a "talking point" ? Buzzwords are so tiresome.

It's great when Dave mentions how open ROH fans are to new stuff, then 4 paragraphs later writes about Gabe's lamentations over not being able to go where he wanted to with Puder because the fans shit on the angle.

Dave does win points for this one, though: "Davey Richards is trying to be Benoit. In the ring, anyway."

Just my two cents, until the brawl with Dragon at the last ROH PPV I saw nothing in Morishima. In fact, I'm wondering how much being in the ring with one of the best in the biz had to do with me finally seeing what the fuss was about.

It's just the latest round of "Meltzer be fer him, so we be agin' him!"

I think it's more of "The guy booking Morishima obviously has Dave's ear" thing.

I'm not seeing it. What did Gordy do that was better than Morishima?

Pretty much everything. That's not a knock btw, Gordy was the best big man of all time in a lot of people's minds.
