thebrainfollower2 Posted October 14, 2019 Report Posted October 14, 2019 So long story short, does anyone remember the article Dory Funk Jr. wrote years back for the kayfabe memories board going over the weekly schedule for Amarillo? I need it for research and the KM board has been down for over a month now. Is it anywhere else, anyone got a copy by any chance? Thanks a million in advance
C.S. Posted October 14, 2019 Report Posted October 14, 2019 Have you tried plugging the Kayfabe Memories URL into archive.org. It's a longshot, especially if the board was locked behind a login (I can't remember), but it's worth a try.
thebrainfollower2 Posted October 15, 2019 Author Report Posted October 15, 2019 I did try that and you can't get individual territory threads that way. I'd have to know the URL of the actual thread itself which I don't.
Marksman Posted October 15, 2019 Report Posted October 15, 2019 Fourth post down on this link looks like it might quote some of it - any use? http://wrestlingclassics.com/cgi-bin/.ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=18;t=001478;p=0
thebrainfollower2 Posted October 15, 2019 Author Report Posted October 15, 2019 That helps yes. Dory did this epic post covering an entire week's loop, towns, mileage, hotels, places to stay and eat, etc but this is good information too, thanks so much!
NintendoLogic Posted October 15, 2019 Report Posted October 15, 2019 The Amarillo loop sounds absolutely brutal. That's like a thousand miles in two days.
pmo Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 I remember JJ Dillon talking about the Amarillo loop in one of his shoots with Cornette. He describe it as decent pay but a long trip territory but not a hard driving one as most of the trips were basically highway travel. They compared it to mid south which they considered much worse as while it was just as long it was all back roads which made the trips even more brutal.
Cornette's racket Posted October 26, 2019 Report Posted October 26, 2019 Mid south didn't sound like it was much fun either.
Flyin' Brian Posted October 27, 2019 Report Posted October 27, 2019 Found this post on Dory Funk's website when I was looking for some info on the Amarillo Territory. Hope it's what you were looking for. http://www.dory-funk.com/amarillo.html
thebrainfollower2 Posted October 27, 2019 Author Report Posted October 27, 2019 Yes I ended up finding the same thing in time to record my episode and read edited highlights from it. I guess the guys were going like 90mph in the middle of nowhere so it wasn't as brutal as Mid South. Wondering in the 70's and 80's what territories had the easiest travel? Florida and Portland maybe? Montreal in the summer?

Pat Laprade and/or Bertrand Hébert are the best suited to answer your question, given they're historians of the Montreal area.
SirEdger Posted October 28, 2019 Report Posted October 28, 2019 After asking Pat Laprade about it on Twitter, he told me that the Montreal territory couldn't book a lot of venues during the winter because of hockey so it was mostly a summer territory where they covered Ontario, Quebec and Vermont. As for the easiest schedule & travel, he says that Hawaii and St. Louis were the best.

It was one city and I know there were shows at the Kiel auditorium and the wrestling at the chase TV tapings so it was hardly a huge slog.
bobholly138 Posted October 30, 2019 Report Posted October 30, 2019 Always heard the Mobile/Pensacola territory had the easiest trips. You were home pretty much every night and I think the longest trip was once a week going to Dothan.

And he knows a lot more than me about that so I trust Pat's knowledge about that.
