sek69
FWIW Cody's said he wants to add a TV title at some point once things gets more established.

I hope MJF puts the ring on before punching people to knock them out. Like Regal used to do with the Brass Knuckles. Could be a cool little heel thing. MoS
Jericho is the wrestler of the year. This episode in particular would have been poor if not for him.

goodhelmet
I didn't think this was a poor episode at all. Some missteps here and there but this company can put on a great wrestling program.
MoS
I'm all for Mox and Jericho feuding next. Jericho gave Sky a couple of excellent near falls. I like the fact that faces are submitting to heel submission holds in the main event.
Ricky Jackson
Yeah, the bulk of the show wasn't must see or anything, but the bookends featuring Jericho were top notch, with a good hook at the end for next week
The Thread Killer
It will be interesting to see if Jericho/Moxley will be better in AEW than it was in WWE. It is going to take some doing to get the memory of their blood feud over Jericho's torn jacket and Mitch the Potted Plant out of my mind. It's honestly as racist as the fried chicken bullshit, but anti-Asian (and even anti-Indian) racism does not get nearly as traction, and he does not have a huge bulls-eye on his ass like Cornette. But he should be getting criticised for this.

What did he say? EDIT: Never mind, I see what he said from earlier in this thread. Poor choice of words, but he probably won't get a ton of heat over that, I wouldn't guess. Mind you the way things are nowadays, who knows. Everybody is one gaffe away from exile.
MoS
I don't advocate him being fired for this comment, mind you. But I do advocate him being fired for being terrible at his job. Today really showed how much they need Tony, cuz 2019 JR honestly sucks at commentary imo.
sek69
JR's more "grandpa who uses outdated terminology" than "wannabe edgelord who keeps playing with fire and is constantly surprised when he gets burned" so I wouldn't expect him to get the Cornette reaction here. The Thread Killer
Tonight's show really showed how much they need Tony and what a valuable role he plays on that broadcast team. As bad a "Grumpy Old Man" JR can be at times, that's not the only problem. Excalibur talks too damn much. He's not up there in Mauro territory, and at least he isn't shouting all the damn time...but he still doesn't seem to understand how to let the action speak for itself during key moments. It's like he thinks he's calling the match for radio, or something. Having Tony in there really gives that group more personality and makes them much easier to listen to...I think it helps break up the discussion a bit. Besides, Tony's enthusiasm really adds something to the overall dynamic.
Coffey
Jim Ross on commentary reminds me of a Bill Burr stand-up comedy bit. Just waiting on his box full of stuff from his desk moment.

It feels like Excalibur feels he needs to do more when it's just him and JR, which isn't entirely wrong, but it comes off as "if I keep talking, Jim won't be able to say something that makes him look bad/old/out of touch". With Tony around, you have a guy who's been doing broadcasting during the time he was away from wrestling so he was already good to go. He just needed to get familiarity with the product. Blehschmidt
The real question about the Butcher and The Blade is.... Why did Allie turn heel and attack Cody? She was the only semi-over American female babyface they had (cause the Dentist ain't over), so I have to question that decision.
