ErictheDragon Posted September 19 Report Posted September 19 Love the Horsemen looking like self assured a-holes who just *know* they're better than everybody else. Them bringing in Spivey to block Hogan from the title picture is a great addition. Mexico City clearly had a great time even if Canek couldn't win the big one. Konnan also takes an L in front to the homeland and doesn't take it near as well. R.I.P Swords of Light. Texas Red just tore through the Jive Tones. But Neil and the Hangman remain just out of reach. Debeer and Colon are still line all out war. When will it end? And will anyone be left standing after its done? Like the angel of Idol taking Young under his wing. Graham & Rhenigans are going to add some much needed Professionalism to the tag ranks.
kevinmcfl Posted September 22 Report Posted September 22 Sorry for falling behind again... Lets start in Mexico: I thought you did a great job of giving the fans what they wanted... Nice the Guerreros wrestle well and get a little extra brawl time. Loved Colon coming out to attack Debeers Great matchup with Flair and El Canek ... the dirties players in the game with the lowblow from Flair and Tully with the help. Great way to keep EL Canek looking great in Mexico. On to the next few weeks of TV... Great team with Slater and Garvin. Always thought Slater was better as heel and Garvin as a babyface but together, I think they could do anything!! Koonan turning on Gamma... very interesting! What a promo with Hulk wanting his title back and Flair and Tully basically telling him no chance as they unleash Spivey... awesome segment Looking forward to the AWA going to England... Vince might have been national but you seem to be International!

Santana looked smooth, DeBeers got his usual heat, and Leo Burke sneaking a win over JW Storm was classic vet stuff. Jammer/Brandi is heating up, the Guerreros are cocky as ever, and Jumbo wrecking a guy while setting up Hansen felt big. Texas Red accepting that Texas Death match was a huge moment, and Arcidi showing up with the Power Twins was a real shock. Spivey talking tough about Hogan set the hype, and Hogan’s gym promo was vintage Hulkster. Then the Royal Albert Hall card totally delivered—Johnny Smith got the crowd behind him, Bundy crushed, and Slater/Garvin vs. the Bodies was a gritty brawl. The TV title match had a sneaky turn with Gary Young laying out Sammartino, and Cactus vs. Golden was pure chaos. Latin Desire and the Destruction Crew tore it up, and Flair stealing one from Tony St. Clair got real riot heat. The post-match with Missing Link, Sawyer, Johnny Smith, and then Les Thornton giving his nod? Awesome angle. Hot crowd, big matches, and tons of momentum going into Melee at the Mecca.

spaldoni Posted October 18 Author Report Posted October 18 AWA Melee at the Mecca Milwaukee WI 10-18-90 Ken Resnick: Hello everyone and welcome to this very special Sports Channel event, Melee at the Mecca, We've got a tremendous night of action ahead, so let's get to the ring. Dick Slater and Ron Garvin vs. The Professionals Professionals get the edge early with their superior technical skills but their arrogance gets in the way and allows Slater and Garvin to humble them with some hard hitting rough housing. Professionals get a bit desperate and change the momentum with some rule breaking. Rheingans catches Garvin in a gut wrench suplex as Graham follows things up with a back stabber but Garvin weathers the storm and eventually tags in Slater. Slater comes in with fists flying and cleans house. Moments later, the Professionals try to do some sneaky double teaming but Garvin runs in. The Ref gets order and while he guides Rheingans to the corner, Garvin nails Graham with a big punch as Slater follows with a Russian Leg Sweep. The Ref runs over and counts 1..2..3! Watch out champs, Slater and Garvin are in world tag title contention. Konnan vs. Gama Singh It's hard to believe that for most of the year, the Swords of Light were one of the most popular teams in the AWA. That all changed when Konnan attacked his partner Gama. The bell rings and Gama is out for vengeance as he takes it to Konnan. The opening moments is all Gama. Gama has Konnan bumping and reeling and almost finishes things off with a missile dropkick. Gama stays in control and executes a series of suplexes. Hold on! There's a commotion as somebody casually walks to ringside. Resnick: I know that man. That's Gary Hart! What's he doing here? Gary Hart stays calm and just stares into the ring. Gama is thrown off guard by Hart's presence and this allows Konnan to comes from behind and nail him with a low blow. Konnan regroups. As Gama slowly rises, Konnan swings off the ropes and puts Gama down with a forward roll clothesline. Konnan looks out at Hart. Hart taps the ropes and gives Konnan some kind of signal. Konnan hoists Gama up and executes his Konnan Crash (Samoan Drop) Hart makes another signal to Konnan. Konnan applies a single leg Boston Crab and wrenches away until Gama finally submits. Hart walks into the ring, shakes Konnan's hand and raises his arm. Well, I guess we know who's been in Konnan's ear. AWA World Tag Team Title Bout The Enforcers (C) vs. The Takano Dragons I think the Enforcers have been preoccupied lately with Horsemen business and haven't given the Takanos much thought. Well, they get a wake up call because the Takanos are here to win the titles and have the champs in serious trouble early on. Arn gets bumped all over and tags in Zbyszko, but he doesn't fare any better. The Takanos are on their A game and the fans can feel a title change. The Enforcers finally shift things and get in a solid segment. However, the Takanos come back hard and regain momentum. Shunji works over Zbyszko and tags George. Shunji executes a superplex and George follows with a diving splash from the top rope 1..2..Arn breaks it. Shunji grabs Arn, but Arn rakes his eyes and hurls him out of the ring. Shunji gets to the apron as Arn runs across and sends him back down with a running forearm blast. Zbyszko covers George as the Ref counts 1..2..3! Enforcers retain. Carlos Colon vs. Col Debeers Debeers enters the ring holding his club. Colon comes to the ring with a baseball bat. The Ref is pleading with both men to release their weapons. Out of nowhere, Colon kicks Debeers and just pummels him with the bat! Colon is a madman as he hits Debeers over and over on his back. Several officials run in to try and stop him. Colon finally exits but the look in his eyes is terrifying. This one's a no contest. An advertisement for SuperClash 5 is shown. Friday January 2nd and Saturday January 3rd McNichols Arena, Denver Co. The Tribal Nation vs. The Guerreros These teams have been involved in some brawls and this match is no different. It's a highly competitive, hard hitting affair. Guerreros take control and almost put things away with a double suplex/stereo elbow drops. Tribal Nation regain control later on and almost win the match with stereo tomahawk chops from opposite turnbuckles. After 15 minutes of intensity, we get a pier six brawl. Chavo is thrown out of the ring. The Tribal Nation swing Hector to the ropes and double back drop him, then follow with double chops. The Ref guides Chris to his corner. Chavo comes back in the ring with a sack. He nails Mark over the head with it! The sack explodes and coins fly all over the ring. Chavo slides out of the ring. Hector rolls over and covers Mark as the Ref runs over and counts 1..2..3! Chris is a second too late. Chavo gets Hector out of the ring and they have a fun celebration up the aisle. AWA International Title Bout Stan Hansen (C) vs. Jumbo Tsuruta The physicality in this match is unbelievable. These two are stiff and rough. Both men go on rampages with suplexes and slams, knee drops, elbow drops and forearm blast exchanges. It's a brutal encounter. Hansen starts to gain momentum but Jumbo stops it quick with an enzigiri. Jumbo his a backbreaker and goes to the top rope and crashes down with a flying knee drop 1..2..Kick Out. Moments later, they have a furious exchange and fight to the outside. They fight all the way up the aisle resulting in a double countout. Hansen retains but I'm sure a rematch is coming. Hulk Hogan vs. 'Dangerous' Dan Spivey Tully has paid Spivey a lot of money to take Hogan out and we'll see if it pays off. Hogan's on the road to a rematch for the world title and says he's running through the Spivey obstacle. As soon as Hogan enters the ring the fight is on and the bell rings. Both men fire away with punches. Hogan gets the upper hand, punches Spivey with 3 big rights and clotheslines Spivey over the top rope. The place is electric as Hogan works the crowd. Spivey regroups and is pissed. Spivey gets on the apron but Hogan blasts him with a punch and suplexes the big man back in the ring. It's all Hogan as he has Spivey taking some big bumps. Before the main event, it's announced that all the participants involved in the previous brawl have been escorted out of the building. rainmakerrtv Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 Dick Slater + Ron Garvin = duo I would not want to meet in a dark alley.
ErictheDragon Posted October 19 Report Posted October 19 Garvin & Slater show the Professionals how it's done. Gary Hart arrives and Konnan has a new advisor. The Enforcers get the Horsemen's night off to a good start. Colon goes feral on Debeers and I love it. Los Guerreros keep themselves in title contention. Hansen and Jumbo was the hosts fight we all expected. Kerry comes to the Hulkster's aid before Spivey and the Enforcers can take him out. Naitch better be making sure Tully gets a massive bonus cause he handed Ric that match on a silver platter.
kevinmcfl Posted yesterday at 01:34 AM Report Posted yesterday at 01:34 AM Some really good TV matches this week. Iceman vs Leo Burke Saito vs Storm Sammartino vs Gary Young. I think this is a really good job by you for this time period. In the early 80's it seemed to be squash matches after squash matches but with cable tv all over the country by 1990, promotions that still existed had to hook the viewers in or they would go somewhere else. On to the Melee at the Mecca -I really like Slater and Garvin as a tag team. These two could were so believable at everything they did. I agree with you, they are in title contention. - Gary Hart was one of my favorites. He was magic on the mic and so good with the foreign menaces. Koonan should get a huge boost here. Nice pairing. - Just love the Enforcers. Again, another tag team that is so believable. Would love to see them vs Garvin and Slater. -Colon and Debeers could have a No Contest every night and I would still pay to see it!! Same with Stan Hansen and whoever he is wrestling. - The Horsemen better be ready. Even 3 against 2, they couldn't keep Hogan and Kerry down! Then we get Flair needing help from Tully to go over Murraco. So, Hogan and Kerry take out Spivey, Arn and Larry Z but the champ, Flair, needs some help against one man. The good news for Flair is that he always has help and is the dirtiest player in the game. Hogan might be the favorite on paper but Flair might be the betting choice! Should be interesting! Wow... Super Clash 5.... We've been doing this awhile. I remember when Dawn of War first started and I was doing the AWA and you were doing the USWA. Look at us now... complete switch. Great to have gotten to know you and so glad you have been along for this ride since day 1. Still remember that night we did that draft. So many people have come and gone but this group is becoming closer and closer. Enjoy the build up to your big show and I look forward to it. You always do an amazing job with your mega shows!
Control21 Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago Tsuruta vs Hansen sounded like one helluva match. Ric Flair vs Dan Muraco seems like a good pairing on paper. I wonder how they would have fared if they wrestled in real life.
spaldoni Posted 6 hours ago Author Report Posted 6 hours ago AWA TV @ The Hammond Center 10-24-90 A recap of Melee at the Mecca is shown. Larry Nelson: Hello everybody and welcome to AWA Major League Wrestling. I know we're all still reeling from Melee at the Mecca and we all know SuperClash 5 is coming, but before that we even get to that, the AWA will present a Title Night on November 15th. More on that later. Wow, a lot happening in the AWA. As for tonight, Tommy Jammer takes on Tom Brandi. The Soul Patrol will wrestle the Power Twins. Gary Hart will be here along with Konnan. And all four horsemen will be here tonight! Ok, let's get to the ring. Marcus Bagwell and Marc Mero vs. Ben Lloyd and Pete Wissman The AWA has noticed the potential in rookies Bagwell and Mero and decided to give them a chance to get some shine on TV. These guys are green but have some fire. They look pretty good and win the match with stereo sunset flips. Commercial Break Ricky Santana vs. Carl Kellerman Santana once again shows off his charisma and energy in the ring and wins the match with a flying knee drop from the top rope. Commercial Break The Soul Patrol vs. The Power Twins w/Ted Arcidi The bell rings and the Soul Patrol immediately double dropkick Arcidi out of the ring. The match starts with a hard hitting pier six brawl. Things eventually settle down and we get another back and forth match with both teams putting their muscles to work. After a few minutes of back and forth action, Arcidi trips Walker. Jones runs around the ring and punches Arcidi. Dave hops down and fights with Jones. Inside the ring, Larry slams Walker. Jones back drops Dave on the concrete. Larry swings off the ropes and Jones trips him. Larry staggers into a quick cradle by Walker 1..2..3!! The Soul Patrol celebrate up the aisle as Arcidi and the Power Twins start flipping over chairs in anger. Commercial Break We see a video of a big man with a total grunge look playing a guitar. Smoke is all around him with flashing lights going off. Maxx Payne is coming to the AWA! Nelson: Ok, Maxx Payne is on his way to the AWA. A very interesting individual indeed. Fans, my guest at this time calls himself the future, I'm talking about JW Storm. JW, you've been in a bit of a slump lately and people are saying you're not living up to your future moniker. Before Storm answers, out comes Austin Idol and Gary Young. Idol: Stand back Larry, I got this. (Looks at Storm) Listen darling, don't listen to all that bogus stuff. I'm telling you right now, you are the future daddy and you belong with winners. You can be a part of our future. Come on back and let me talk at you. There's a pause. Storm: Ok, you got my attention. Storm follows Idol and Young to the back. Commercial Break The British Bombers vs. Vic Dutro and Willie Lopez Smith hits the superplex as St. Clair follows with a senton for the win. The Bombers celebrate as the fans cheer. WHAM!! From behind the Bombers are hit with chains by Buzz Sawyer and the Missing Link! Sawyer and Link swing Smith to the ropes and double clothesline him with their chains. They wrap their chains around their hands and start punching away on St. Clair! Several officials and prelim wrestlers come out to stop this. Sawyer and Link leave the ring. They go over to a terrified Larry Nelson. Sawyer snatches the mic from him. Sawyer: (maniacal laugh) I want to thank the British Bombers for getting my suspension lifted. (more laughing) now the pain begins! Link lifts his chain towards Nelson and Nelson runs away. Commercial Break Konnan w/Gary Hart vs. Trent Watkins Konnan is aggressive tonight as Hart looks on. Hart gives a nod as Konnan executes his Konnan Crash for the win. Resnick: Gary Hart, you made yourself known at Melee and I have to ask, with all the rumors about somebody getting in Konnan's ear, was this your plan all along? Hart: Make no mistake about it, this was my master plan from the beginning. I have been watching what's been going on in the AWA and I saw the potential in this man (points at Konnan) This man is a true warrior with a fighter's heart. This man has all the tools. He's without a doubt the greatest wrestler to come out of Mexico and he will soon dominate the world. Gama Singh was holding him back and now Konnan's free. I will take Konnan to the highest levels never before imagined. This is the Konnan era! Commercial Break We see the familiar setting of an old ghost town in the desert. We see hands gripping a noose as the camera pans up to the Hangman. The camera then pans over to Nell. Nell: Time catches up to all souls. It caught up to Brutus Beefcake. It caught up to the Snowman and of course it caught up to that poor soul Texas Red. Along with time comes patience. Right now we're seeking out our next soul. So, I ask that you just be patient and while you're waiting, you can sit and wonder just who the next soul will be for us to take. Commercial Break 'Thrilling' Tom Brandi vs. 'Jamm'n' Tommy Jammer w/The Vin Man Vinnie arrogantly leads Jammer to the ring. The fans roar as Brandi sprints down the aisle. He grabs Vinnie and hurls him into the steel post! He hurls Jammer into the ring. He swings Jammer to the ropes and back drops him. Jammer staggers up as Brandi grabs him by the hair and hurls him over the top rope onto Vinnie! The match never officially started. Commercial Break Larry Nelson is standing in the ring. Nelson: Fans, on November 15th from the Sullivan Arena in Alaska, the AWA presents Title Night. On that night, Ric Flair will defend the AWA world title against Mr. Saito. Stan Hansen will defend the International title against Jumbo Tsuruta in a rematch from Melee. Latin Desire will defend the National tag titles against the Heavenly Bodies. And listen to this special attraction match. AWA World tag champs the Enforcers will team up with Dan Spivey to take on The Magnificent Muraco, Kerry Von Erich and the immortal Hulk Hogan! Wow! Ok, joining me now are the four horsemen, AWA tag team champs, the Enforcers, the figurehead Tully Blanchard and the AWA world champion, Ric Flair. The Horsemen enter the ring with the upmost confidence and swagger. Tully's about to talk but DAN SPIVEY enters the ring. Spivey: Hogan! You're still number one on my hit list but right now I need to eliminate a pest. (looks at the Horsemen) Don't worry about Von Erich! He's all mine!! Spivey exits. Tully: Well, that problem's solved. (smirks) you're on borrowed time Von Erich! Muraco, it felt so good to pull out my sling shot suplex and put your stupid face in the mat. It was even better watching the AWA world champ Ric Flair inflict pain and punishment with the figure four. As for you Hogan, you're going to be out manned by the world tag champs, the Enforcers. Zbyszko: You know I wonder what that spudhead Hulk Hogan is gonna do when he's out of his league with the tag champs at Title Night. Arn: It's real simple, we're tag team specialists and a cohesive unit. Von Erich's no match for Spivey. Muraco proved he doesn't have what it takes and as for you Hogan, all the kissing up to AWA higher ups won't help you at all when you're in there with the Horsemen! Tully: Talk to them champ! Flair: Hogan! I told you once and I'll tell you a hundred more times. You haven't earned a world title rematch and whether you like it or not, you'll never get another world title shot and that's final! As for Title Night, Mr. Saito, you're next in line and you'll fall just like the rest! It's that easy. I'm walking out of Alaska with my world title and as good as Saito is, he's not on my level, not even close and I'm taking him to school! WOOOOO!!! The show ends with the Horsemen standing tall.
ErictheDragon Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Bagwell & Mero are making waves. Santana continues to shine. Soul Patrol gets their payback. Maxx is ready to bring the Payne to the AWA. Idol has a pitch for Storm. The Bombers might be regretting bringing Sawyer back. Hart majorly puts over Konnan. Brandi doesn't need a bell to put Jammer and Vinne down. Classic way to end the show with the Horsemen (and Spivey) vowing to take out all their enemies.
