WCW Power Hour - Tony Schiavone & Jesse Ventura

The British Bulldog kicks off Power Hour with a big win and he shows off a supreme look and some big momentum in the ring. 

Marty Jannetty with a good win… he has got some quick speed in that ring. 

Johnny B Badd with a knockout victory! 

Vader kills some dude… hits the Vader bomb… works the crowd… he is on the brink! 

Diamond Dallas Page gets a win over Kendall Windham - DDP is coming along.

Lex Luger defeated Pat Tanaka in the main event of Power Hour. Cactus Jack is shown after the match up in the stands… he looks like he is going to jump on to Luger. What is going to happen when these two finally get a hold of one another!?!

Sid Vicious comes out with Harley Race and beats the shit out of two seperate guys. 

Harley and Sid are joined by Meng (white shirt Meng) and Mr. Hughes. They put over the fact that come the Clash… Cactus Jack is going to end Lex Luger’s Career… Sid Vicious is going to destroy Davey Boy Smith… and finally get his shot at his rightful world title!

Marcus Alexander Bagwell with a fun encounter… he has got a great look… smooth in the ring… we’ll see what happens when he clashes with Johnny B Badd this week! 

The Great Muta gets a win and almost flies out of the ring when he hits the back elbow hand spring! 

The Dangerous Alliance win a six-man tag team match… Rude is without question the man on the rise in this group.

Dustin Rhodes and Ricky Steamboat team up and defeat the State Patrol

We then go to Eric Bichoff in the WCW Control Room and he announces the card for the Clash on Thursday, September the 3rd.

Plus… Sid Vicious vs Davey Boy Smith… the Undertaker vs Ron Simmons… and a special showcase with Johnny B Badd taking on Marcus Bagwell! 

Skinner with a win… he spits that chaw in his opponents mouth and he looks like he throws up!

Marty Jannetty with another solid win. He continues to build back up! 

Our main event sees the 4 on 4 challenge of Sting, Flyin Brian, and The Steiners taking on Tenryu, Chono, Hase, and Saito… Alexandra York is ringside… but she isn’t alone. She has got another guy with her… that’s… Kensuke Sasuke! He’s been in WCW before and Ross puts over how he is an understudy of Chono. This one gets some time and we get to see all the pieces come together. The highlight is seeing Scott Steiner and Chono just beat the living shit out of one another. Sting and Tenryu do meet and give the fans a taste of what is going to happen this week at the Clash. Hase and Pillman pull no punches and we get some high flying. The finish is chaotic but in the end… Saito holds Rick Steiner’s arm up against the ringpost… and Tenryu runs with a boot that knocks him the f out! Steiner is known for a hard head but that was too much for any man. Tenryu gets the 3-count and the fans are shocked. Rick is hurt. Sting is trying to fight off Chono and Hase. Saito is attacking Rick while Scott protects him. Sasuke gets involved and now he and Pillman are fighting. Chaos has broken loose… we’ll see you at the Clash this week! 

 

WCW The Main Event - Tony Schiavone & Eric Bischoff 

Main Event kicks off this week with the Undertaker destroying some dudes… Eric and Tony continue to put him over as he climbs the ranks in WCW! 

Ron Simmons with a good win tonight and the spinebuster is all she wrote!

The Nasty Boys with Missy Hyatt get a tag team win and beat the piss out of their opponents. 

Van Hammer with another win and he continues to build steam… just not very hot.

In the Main Event of Main Event we see Cactus Jack and El Gigante go to a double DQ. It is about as ugly as you’d expect and Cactus keeps the match afloat

With how quickly Taker's climbing the ranks, we may get the clash with Sting we never got irl.

Very interested to see the outcome of the Lex Luger-Cactus Jack match.  The way I see it, you are in a difficult spot.  Lex is obviously one of your top, top guys and has been perfectly built this way.  If he lost to Cactus Jack, that would really elevate Jack quickly from not even being in the top 10 to a contender!  But this would be hard to pull off considering Cactus Jack could not go over El Gigante cleanly.  I think there is going to be some chaos here!!!!

Really looking forward to all the matches at the Clash.  Those are some awesome matches for free tv.  This is why I was always a WCW fan and not a WWE fan.  They just had better things for free.

I agree with AD. I'm thinking we're eventually going to get the epic dream match between Sting and Taker. This is what fantasy booking is all about 

If all goes well at the Clash, York International just might take the Dangerous Alliances spot as top faction 

I can't imagine where the Luger/Cactus match is going to go 

Sid has Sting's title on the mind but Bulldog's being built pretty strong right now. Be careful Sid 

With all that's going on, WCW better get ready for the man they call Vader. He's time is coming and soon.

Clash of the Champions XVI - Thursday, September 3, 1991

Television Championship - Flyin Brian defeated Hiro Hase at the 13-minute mark when Hase hit a nasty German Suplex… both men’s shoulders were down but Pillman raised his at the last moment! 

Johnny B Badd defeated Marcus Bagwell when Teddy Long turned and held Bagwell for Badd to knock out with the punch. Long and Badd celebrated all the way up the ramp!

Sid Vicious w/ Harley Race defeated Davey Boy Smith via count out after powerbombing him outside the ring on the rampway! Smith couldn’t answer the ten count back to the ring. 

WCW Tag Team Championship - Masa Chono and asa Saito w/ Alexandra York defeated the Steiner Brothers for the WCW Tag Team Championship.The finish saw Kensuke Sasuke get involved and he used York’s “new” computer and destroyed it over Rick Steiner’s head leading to Chono hitting a Mafia Kick for the 3-count! As soon as the match finished, The Nasty Boys ran into the ring and took out Scott! Rick’s head was bleeding as he tried to get to him, but Sags and Knobbs hit a spike piledriver outside the ring on Scott!

The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer defeated Ron Simmons with the Tombstone in the middle of the ring! This was a HARD fought match and for the first time in almost a year, the Undertaker wavered when Simmons brought some huge shots. Simmons fights hard but Undertaker was able to counter him into the Tombstone for the victory. 

Ricky Steamboat, Dustin Rhodes, and the Great Muta defeated Rick Rude, Larry Z, and Arn Anderson w/ Paul E in a six-man showcase. Muta pinned Arn Anderson after a huge shining wizard. Steamboat and Rude really layed into one another during thie one. 

Lex Luger defeated Cactus Jack in a wild 8-minute brawl that was all over the ringside area. The referee could not contain anything. Luger has to channel his Bruiser Brody instincts here a little bit but the match comes together enough. The finish sees Cactus go for the elbow outside the ring but Luger moves and Cactus bumps on the cement! This all leads to a moment in the ring where Cactus leaps off the top rope, uncharacteristically, and Luger counters him for a catching powerslam! 1….2…3!!! Luger has won it and he escapes out of the ring. 

Jim Ross walks over to try and get a word from him… Luger is winded… Ross asks him questions but Luger can’t catch his breath… he leans up against the rail… tries to get his composure… and out of fugging nowhere… ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER GRABS LEX LUGER FROM BEHIND AND PULLS HIM OVER THE GUARDRAIL! The camera angle is amazing…. Abby has got some sharp object jabbed into Luger’s throat… Luger’s face is smooshed up against the guardrail. Cactus is down there screaming like a wild banshee. Security and staff come out and try to stop this… pure chaos! 

We take a minute… come back and Jesse Ventura is out there. Luger is being taken to the back on a stretcher… it is messy because of the rampway. Ventura comes over to Ross…. Gives him a rundown of what’s going on… he then says that he’s reviewed the footage… the tag team championships are being HELD UP! Sasuke hit him with the computer… this Saturday on World Championship Wrestling… the titles will be addressed. Ventura is going to be ringside for our World Title main event… THERE MUST BE A WINNER!

WCW Championship - Sting defeated Tenryu in a 22-minute showdown. Evenly fought. Both men gave it everything they had. Tenryu showed off his power and grit… Sting showed he has got all the resilience that anyone could have to be champion. In the ring, we see Tenryu go for a powerbomb but Sting pops over the top and then grabs in a backslide and locks in the arms for a 3-count! Sting has won it!

Pillman retains in a photo finish. I'm betting Hase isn't done.

Badd & Long were a pretty fun duo from what i've seen of them together. Shame it had to happen at Bagwell's expense.

Smith takes a hell of a bump making Sid look extra dangerous.

Looks like the Foundation had the tag titles in their grasp but Ventura decided a hit from a computer is a step too far over the line.

Simmons gives Taker his first real fight but the Deadman can't be stopped.

Dangerously and the Alliance may want to go back to the drawing board.

Luger survives Jack only to get caught in an Abby jump scare.

Tenryu gave his best shot but Sting is still the man in WCW.

Hase gives Pillman a scare but Pillman ekes it out. I always liked that finish. Keeps both guys strong 

I've been waiting for it and now it's official. Teddy and the Bad Man baby! 

Damn, Sid looks like a beast tonight. At least Bulldog didn't get his shoulders pinned. 

Horrible night for the Steiners! Lose the titles and get a Nasty beatdown. After Ventura's ruling, I guess it isn't all bad news. 

This was a big win for Taker. He's now moving up a level in competition. I think Simmons can rebound from this. 

The babyfaces best the Dangerous Alliance. Seems the Alliance is a bit off their game lately. 

Even in defeat, Cactus did exactly what he was supposed to do. Jeez, now Luger has Abby to deal with. IRL, I enjoyed the Abby/Jack love hate alliance. This should be fun. 

Sting survives Tenryu to retain but both men came out looking strong.

I enjoyed Clash of Champions.  Great use of Abbie.  He is gold is small doses and him and Cactus is shure to be a wild ride. 

I like that the tag team titles are being held up.  This always adds a level of intrigued to an angle.  I have never remembered to use this idea but may be now after you reminded me....  

Undertaker vs Simmons in his prime.... this would be great!

It is unusual that the world title match is in the background but your card was so fun, that Sting and Tenyru was like my 5th favorite match... WOW... that says a lot about your roster and booking!  Great job with WCW

Jesse Ventura called out the World Tag Team Championship and said in two weeks on September 26th, we will be LIVE from the Omni for a special 2 hour broadcast. On that show… in a steel cage match… the Steiners will face off against Chono and Saito for the World Tag Team Titles!

Cactus Jack and Abdullah the Butcher debuted as a tag team - pure chaos. Cactus cuts a promo talking about Uncle Harley and doing whatever he asks!

The Undertaker, Sid, Ron Simmons, Vader, Dustin Rhodes, The Great Muta, and Rick Rude all with good wins as they show off their roles in the top 10. 

Six-Man Tag Team Main Event
Sting & The Steiners defeated Chono, Hase, & Saito - Saito may have been injured in the contest. 

On the MAIN EVENT - Rick Rude defeated Flyin Brian in a one on one contest but not for the TV title!

This weekend, we saw a new top 10, including a big-time top 10 match when Lex Luger defeated Tenryu via DQ > Abdullah and Cactus showed up and all hell broke loose. The York International Group teamed up with Cactus and Abdullah to take out Luger until Sting and the Steiners showed up! 

We found out that Saito has been injured and at the Omni - Kensuke Sasaki will team with Masa Chono to take on the Steiners inside the Steel Cage. We will also see Sting vs Tenryu for the World Championship. We’ll also see a top 10 matchup when The Undertaker takes on Ricky Steamboat plus Lex Luger vs Sid Vicious!

The Patriot with a good win - he’s all over this weekend. 

Davey Boy Smith with a good win - he notices someone in the crowd… is that… Regal?

Ron Simmons with a big win… he looks like a man on a mission.

Vader beats the shit out of a couple of punks.

The Undertaker with another dominating win.

We see the six-man team of Chono, Hase, and Sasuke and they look good!

Sting and the Steiners get a good win… fun to see these three together. 

In a major angle… we see Sid Vicious in the ring with Harley Race and Meng… they are joined by Abdullah and Cactus…  Lex Luger then walks out and says he is tired of playing games… if they want to play the numbers games then he will play them as well… out come the Road Warriors! Luger and the Warriors back off this crew and the battle lines have been drawn!

In the main event - Dustin Rhodes and Rick Rude battle in a 18-minute instant hit. Rude breaks him down but Dustin fights his way back up. Both men with some offense… but the turning point happens when Rude clotheslines Dustin over the top rope to the floor. Rude and Paul E are distracting the referee… wait a second… SCOTT HALL out of NOWHERE NAILS DUSTIN!  He tosses him into the ringpost and he’s busted WIDE open! Dustin is gushing as WCW goes off the air… Scott Hall is back with the Dangerous Alliance!

Great card for the Omni. The match that really grabbed my attention was Steamboat v Undertaker. Also excited for the return of Liger.

After an incredible run in PCW, the Patriot comes into WCW with some fire 

Taker's rising in the rankings. If he gets through Steamboat, I imagine we're going to get that dream match with Sting 

Luger sure picked himself some heavy back up with the Road Warriors. 

The bad guy Scott Hall is back! 

Damn, those are some big time matches signed for the Omni.

World Championship Wrestling Jim Ross & Bobby Heenan

LIVE FROM THE OMNI!

JR: Welcome ladies and gentlemen to downtown Atlanta, Georgia and the Omni! We are LIVE for a very special, sold out edition of World Championship Wrestling! I am joined by Bobby the Brain Heenan, Brain, tonight we’ve got two world title matches…. Everyone is talking about Sting defending the World Title against Tenryu one more time but could the York Foundation strike gold?

Brain: I’ve spoken with York and the associates… Tenryu is in the best shape of his life… he is ready… tonight we will have a new world champion!

JR: That is going to be quite the contest… plus tonight the tag titles will be on the line inside the steel cage… the Steiners take on the team of Chono and Sasuke… now that Saito was injured. 

Brain: I’ve talked about how I wasn’t sure about this pairing… but looking into it… Sasuke is Chono’s protege… he has won gold in the past… he knows Chono… it’s going to be night night for the Steiner Brothers!

JR: I can see where your allegiance lies tonight Brain… plus we’ve got Lex Luger taking on Sid Vicious, one has to wonder if and where Cactus Jack will show his face along with Abdullah the Butcher.

Brain: I may take a break during that match, I don’t want to be anywhere near ringside… especially with the Road Warriors backing up Luger.

JR: Plus we’ve got a match that many never thought they’d see…. Ricky Steamboat versus the Undertaker.

Brain: The Undertaker is undefeated… tonight… he is going to put the flame out of the dragon!

JR: Fans we’ve got a huge night of action… right now we head to the ring for our opening contest!

EIGHT-MAN TAG
Dustin Rhodes, Kendall Windham, Johnny Ace, & Van Hammer vs Rick Rude, Arn Anderson, Larry Z, & Scott Hall w/ Paul E Dangerously
A good opener… Dustin has to carry his team… and does so. The Dangerous Alliance is tough right now… and each man show’s off their skills with Rick Rude shining the brightest. Hall and Rhodes end up rolling out to the floor which leads to a Rude Awakening on Johnny Ace for the 3-count! 

We get a special video showcasing Jushin Thunder Liger who will make his return here tonight!

Marcus Bagwell vs Johnny B Badd w/ Teddy Long
A solid television bout… Marcus Bagwell gives all he’s got here and these guys have 10-minutes. Badd and Long continue to play the 2 on 1 game… Bagwell tries to get offense in but the numbers are just too much. The problem comes when Bagwell gets some momentum but then Long grabs his leg… Bagwell turns to chastise him but turns around and SWEET KISS GOODNIGHT knockout blow from Badd and that’s all she wrote! 

WCW Heavyweight Championship - Sting vs Tenryu w/ Alexandra York
Odd placement for this one but it needs the time limit as Ross says. These two don’t go overly long. Sting and Tenryu go at a breakneck pace for about 12-minutes and give the fans everything they’ve got. York looks visibly frustrated outside the ring as Tenryu doesn’t seem to be listening to her. Tenryu looks VERY stiff tonight and gives Sting everything. Sting’s speed and momentum carries the contest and ends up being the turning point. Tenryu runs for the nasty boot to the skull but Sting ducks and Tenryu’s leg goes over the top rope and he’s in the corner… wait a second STINGER SPLASH. Sting goes up top… Tenryu turns around and HIGH CROSS BODY OFF THE TOP ROPE for the 3-count! Sting retains the title and the crowd is rocking! Tenryu is out of the ring and arguing with York… the International Champion is not very happy right now. 

Lex Luger vs Sid Vicious w/ Harley Race
This is one that has been building for some time… Ross and Heenan put it over in a big way… but it doesn’t even get a chance to get going. Race is trying to orchestrate everything from ringside but Luger isn’t having it. He even kicks at Race… leading to Sid clotheslining him out of the ring to the floor. It doesn’t take long before Meng, Cactus, and Abdullah run out… they are being backed off by officials but then here comes the Road Warriors and El Gigante! All hell has broken loose at ringside. 

Jushin Thunder Liger vs Savio Vega
In a special return bout, Jushin Thunder Liger makes his return to WCW. JR and Heenan put him over as one of the most phenomenal wrestlers in the world. He has had success in WCW before and looks to regain that success here now. Both Ross and Heenan wonder if the York International group will look into Liger and Bobby doesn’t know if he has the killer instinct that York’s men have. Savio flies around for Liger and we see all the big moves, including a top rope Moonsault that WOWs the crowd and gets Liger the 1…2…3!! 

Ricky Steamboat vs The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer
What a moment… Steamboat up against an unbeatable monster. The Undertaker, over the last year have taken on all comers and has yet to be defeated. The US title is not on the line but there is more, everyone can sense it. The match goes around 14-minutes, the longest for the Undertaker, Steamboat just begins to work up a good sweat. Ross and Heenan put this through the roof, the entire time, Taker and Steamboat go blow for blow. One of the big spots is when Steamboat hits the ropes and then goes for a cross body but Taker catches him but falls backwards over the top rope and both men go to the floor but Undertaker holds on to him… then Taker RUNS him into the ringpost! This is the tide turner. Taker takes control and doesn’t look to give it up. He’s hammering down on the Dragon but there is a fire in Steamboat that is unlike most men. He battles back and he’s got this Omni crowd behind him. He makes one big final stand and comes with a couple of huge shots before going up top and hitting a flying chop to the head but the Undertaker just staggers. Steamboat goes up again and comes CRASHING down with another chop and the Undertker goes to his knee… Steamboat is looking to finish now as he goes up top and leaps for a high cross body but the Undertaker catches him… hoists him up… TOMBSTONE PILEDRIVER! 1…..2…..3!!! The Undertaker has won it! The crowd is in disbelief. JR and Heenan put this over in a huge way. What does this mean for the Undertaker?

WCW Tag Team Championship - Cage Match - Steiners vs Chono & Sasuke w/ Alexandra York
The cage match, the Omni, the Tag Titles on the line… here we go. This one starts as a regular tag team match and soon breaks down into a Texas Tornado cage match and the fans eat it up! These four men throw some f’n bombs though inside that ring and each man goes crashing up against the cage. Scott Steiner even gets a little juice to make things special. Alexandra York is screaming outside the ring at her men but Chono and Sasuke seem to be a step off against Rick and Scott. Saito comes out… he doesn’t look 100% and here comes Hase. Inside the ring, Rick and Scott get Chono tied up in the ropes and then Soctt is able to nail Sasuke with a FRANKENSTEINER! The fans explode for the 1…2….3!!! Rick and Scott win the match and regain/retain the WCW World Tag Team Titles! Jim Ross and Bobby put this over as Rick and Scott head to the back where Tony Schiavone is standing by… but inside the ring… in the cage…. Wait just a minute…

 

Tony is standing by as Rick and Scott are coming back… he has his hand on his ear though… fans I am told there is something going on in the ring… Rick and Scott walk into the scene… worn out… a little bloody…  Tony congratulates them… he says we have to take it back out to the ring…

 

Inside the ring… Hase, Chono, Saito, and now Tenryu who has come on… they are surrounding Sasuke… Ross and Heenan wonder what’s going on… then they ATTACK! OH MY! It is a 4 on 1 beatdown in the middle of the ring and the crowd is shocked…. 

The camera cuts back to Rick and Scott and there is commotion as The Nasty Boys are on the scene and they’ve attacked the Steiners. Missy is being held back by officials. Scott Steiner’s eye is badly cut open now and they slam Rick’s arm in the door. This is pure chaos….

The camera cuts back out to the ring… wait a minute… MUTA! MUTA IS HERE! Muta runs out and he goes into the cage! Ross and Heenan are going nuts! The fans are going wild! We’re out of time! 

 

Main Event Tony Schiavone & Eric Bichoff

This ends up being a very fast hour of television… it starts with Tony and Eric saying we have the full footage of both the attacks on the Steiner Brothers and Kensuke Sasuke! We’ll see both situations play out tonight… but right now we get to the ring.

The Patriot wins a nice singles match with a huge belly-to-belly suplex!

Vader wins a handicap match against two men….he beats them with a double bear-hug! 

We see the footage of Kensuke Sasuke getting attacked by Tenryu, Hase, and Saito. Chono stays back for a moment but when Muta comes out - the crowd EXPLODES and he goes right for Chono! Muta mysts Saito. He nails Hase with a nasty kick to the throat. Then it is Muta and Tenryu - eyeing one another up before the York International group begins to retreat…. Muta spits the myst in the air and they go back as Muta checks on Sasuke.

Van Hammer with a good win with that slingshot suplex!

Cactus and Abdullah win a tag team match with Harley Race and Meng at ringside. 

We see the footage of the Nasty Boys attacking the Steiner Brothers right as they begin to talk to Tony Schiavone. The Nasties use the tag titles and chairs. Scott Steiner is busted open even wider and the blood is flowing. Then the Nasty Boys take Rick and slam the door on his arm…. Then they maneuver him… load the arm in the door and both run into it and it sounds like it breaks! 

The Main Event for Main Event is a one-on-one match between Marcus Bagwell and Larry Z w/ Paul E. This is another opportunity for Marcus Bagwell as he and Larry go for about 9-minutes and Bagwell gives him everything he can handle but when Double A comes out… well the tide turns. Anderson doesn’t have to do anything other then circle the ring with Paul E and it serves enough of a distraction for Larry to get a nasty low blow knee right in the groin! Larry then hits the double arm suplex and gets the 3-count! 

After the match, Arn comes in and smiles… they begin to put the boots to Bagwell but then out of the back runs the Patriot! Arn and Larry back off…. Their laughing… Paul E is holding the US tag titles…

I wish that somehow I had made an Omni card once in my life.  I remember getting the rundown of matches every couple of weeks of the upcoming Omni card and just seeing one big match after the next... just like your card.  Very fun night for the fans.
