KingBoggs33
My favorite was when Swerve kicked Page in the face and Ross without missing a beat goes "That running knee is deadly" Ross needs to retire already.
MoS
Young Bucks and Jericho shit aside, AEW's 2024 has been excellent. Incredible badass world champs like Soma Joe and Swerve Strickland, Hangman (literally) setting the house on fire, the GOAT doing GOAT things, the rise of Ospreay, Mariah and Willow, some excellent, heated angles, hate-filled matches, a tremendous year so far
Timbo Slice
This was probably top to bottom the best produced show AEW has ever done. They went for a lot of stuff tonight and basically all of it hit. They also made some amazing production choices, especially in the main event (the House Call into the cage, the wide shot on the final chair shot in an unsanctioned match) that put it over the top. For a show with basically no build, they put on a show people who missed it will be scrambling to buy after the fact. Have to imagine this was a success. Probably since Dynasty onward, give or take a spotty build to DON, it’s been excellent and I wish it was reflected more in the gates and ratings. 2021 AEW is still the gold standard but they just need to stay the course with what they’re doing. Jmare007
Show was excellent. Felt Mercedes/Shida and Dragon/Perry went 5 minutes too long each but they were still damn good matches. Opener was really good. Skipped most of the tag match and the 4way. Don't give a damn about Bucks matches in 2024. I hope we get a proper Okada vs Takeshita feud, it's time to give Rainmaker a real rivalry. PAC vs Ospreay was exactly what I expected. Not the style I prefer but when it's done at that level it's impossible not to have a blast watching it. Stat vs Willow was fucking awesome. I loved how they forced the crowd to care immediately even though they were following Bruv/Pac. Swerve vs Hangman was fucking insane. I knew they were going to go crazy but I was still caught off guard by all the shit they did. On one hand I liked how uncomfortable the crowd was, barely reacting to any of the nearfalls. they didn't really care about who won they were just watching a horror show. But on the other hand, if the match would've had a hot atmosphere it could've surpassed the Texas Deathmatch. Alas, a dope main event anyways. I swear, if Danielson stopped Swerve's reign only for him to put fucking Mox over AGAIN and give him the "retired Dragon" gimmick I'ma be PISSED. I know he's legit one of his closest friends in the biz and the one that convinced him to sign with AEW but come on, give that rub to someone that actually needs it. I don't think I did, but Bryan made magic with then-very raw talent Big Cass, no wonder he could do great stuff with a limited but more experienced talent. Women's division is looking the best it has ever looked helps wonders, too. They just need Athena to enter the fray.
WingedEagle
Yet another phenomenal AEW PPV. Page/Swerve was a fitting next step and escalation in their feud and I didn't mind the length or pacing at all. The needle absolutely bothered me as it felt like something out of a snuff film for the sake of it. They had more than established violence, brutality, hatred and whatever other visceral feelings you could possibly want by that point and that single spot felt like a complete divergence from everything they'd done on this night and previously. I just don't get why it was needed or what it added. I loved the match and it was hardly ruined by it, but it would've been so much cleaner to right to the finish without that spot. Willow vs. Stat blew away every expectation I had and worked with such stiffness and energy in what was probably my second favorite match of the night. The violence felt organic and generally flowed pretty well and didn't feel like a stunt show save a couple minor exceptions. Possibly my favorite women's match in company history (unless I'm overlooking something obvious). Danielson vs. Perry was good. Which is fine, except Danielson usually delivers something a whole lot better than good. Perry needed to work like a chickenshit heel looking for any and every edge rather than as Dragon's equal, but whatever. Onward and upward. That angle afterwards was absolutely INCREDIBLE, with Yuta's performance putting it over the top. Really, really curious where they go next as it seemed like Dragon would defend and perhaps drop the title at WrestleDream in front of a hometown crowd. But now they've got Darby at Grand Slam along with Mox, Claudio, maybe Pac, perhaps Christian and an Ospreay return encounter all in the cards. Maybe Danielson is working us all again and sticking around a little longer? Ospreay vs. Pac was great. On most nights perhaps my MOTN but Swerve/Page and Willow/Stat both connected more with me here. I just didn't this at the MOTYC level some folks were immediately discussing it as, but this was great and would love to see it revisited. strobogo
The missed axe kick to clam jammed thumbtacks spot was somehow both visceral and hilarious. The swanton table spot was brutal. There were a couple of other seriously bad looking bumps Willow took during the match that look like the kind of things to take someone out of action for a while. Has OC ever considered cutting his hair a little shorter so he doesn't have to constantly move it out of his eyes. It's almost like a tic at this point for him. He'll even do it in the middle of spots sometimes, but also before and after every spot. Mox going full Funk was pretty unexpected.
Tetsujin
That was one hell of a PPV. Everything delivered except the Moné/Shida match (and that was a decent until the dumb finish, it's not like It was bad like the Baker match), and I specially enjoyed the Street Fight and the opener. The main event was great, but in my opinion they didn't top neither the previous levels of overall violence an quality of their series, nor the other bloody and vicious matches/moments from earlier in the show. MJF/García and Willow/Stat should have happened at Wembley, so the Steel Cage could feel more special. It still was, but not as much as it should have. Almost no bullshit shenanigans in every match like it's been happening since Dynasty, I really hope they stick to that.
RazorBladeKiss
I'm a deathmatch guy so the level of violence in the main wasn't too much. My only issue is that a syringe spot is something best used for non-feud death matches where the secondary point after winning is to show off wild things because they usually go through the cheek and shoot water. So it was just out of place in this story.
