They have access to what gets the most views and what people aren't watching. The fact that they haven't been uploading more house shows doesn't seem to indicate that was something they felt was going to interest viewers. Unfortunately I suspect that the WCCW numbers aren't inspiring them to really open up the territory library either.

Golberg, Lesnar, Warrior, Taker & Vader seems like it couldn't possibly job all 5 guys to any other team you could make with $15.

It matters to a lot of their sponsorship deals and especially the deal with Mattel.

Looking at stuff about The Sheik got me interested in learning more about The New Guinea Headhunters since they definitely feel like guys who've been wrestling and done the gimmick before but I'd never seen or heard of them. From the best that I can tell, this was their last real run together and they were active since around 1973 and wrestled as The Samoans BEFORE Afa and Sika. Found a lot of info about them here. http://sportsandwrestling.mywowbb.com/forum2/9327.html

Thank you! Based on your information I was able to find this http://prowrestling.wikia.com/wiki/Jack_Krueger According to that bio he also worked as a road agent and a referee for WWF in the late 80s/early 90s but he has a fairly memorable look and I don't remember ever seeing him as a ref in WWF. http://www.cagematch.net/?id=2&nr=8553&page=4 Looking at his match listings there I'm not even sure how he wound up in Continental. It looked like he had steady work as a jobber in WWF all through 86 but just showed up in Continental for October before going right back to WWF.

Does anybody give a shit about Randy Orton?
goc replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in The Microscope
I agree that there was actually a chance for Orton to finally reach the level that WWE sees him as being on after SummerSlam. I was really stoked to see what he would do after winning MITB last year because I really liked that promo where he came out and just fucked with Cena's head about when he would cash in the briefcase. Unfortunately they just made him HHH & Steph's bitch after SummerSlam instead of putting any heat on him. He even had that promo after they emasculated him where he talked about how he had to stop doing certain things and change who he was for the last few years but now he was ready to be The Viper again. But after he had that awesome beatdown on The Miz it's like they just forgot about building him back up as dangerous and went back to making him a bitch. -
He seems to have a bad rep as an announcer around the internet, but I always liked him. I thought he was a really good fit for WCW, he was very good at putting over what was happening in the ring and why, when he wanted to. Yes he sometimes would get off on rants about women or golf but they also had a lot of really pointless filler matches on Nitro where it's not like there was anything going on in the ring that he could talk about anyway.

So I was watching a Dave & Earl Hebner shoot (I don't know why either) and Earl had an interesting answer to being asked if he feels more pressure working a main event. He said he feels more pressure working undercard matches because the main eventers know what they are doing but the younger guys have to be helped, and sometimes they don't listen and you have to be more worried about them hurting you or themselves or their opponent.

I'm afraid I need you to narrow this down between Adam Rose, Bo Dallas, and Rusev. I think Bo is doing fine, the other two could definitely use some better booking. Yes I know everyone would have complained about the babyface being disrespectful but that Rusev segment was dying for someone to come interrupt it.

I wanted Stephanie to really throw a curveball at Cena and offer him a title shot. If Bryan is able to come back for MITB then I really hope the long term pay off for the Rollins turn is to have HHH send Rollins after him. HHH can say he picked Rollins as the one to corrupt because he thinks Rollins is the guy who can take the title off Bryan. It's pretty easy to see from HHH's point of view why he would have wanted Rollins out of all of The Shield. Rollins is the one who saved the day and sparked the comeback in both the Evolution vs. Shield matches.

I'm not sure what to think about this. Part of me thinks they could have a plan for this, and part of me thinks it might just be some way to write out Reigns for a bit because he may have a torn tricep. I'm willing to see where it goes and I think it's probably best for Rollins health that he's going back to being a heel because all I could think about watching him at Payback was that he's going to be the next guy getting neck surgery.

I thought this was a really good show, from the pre-show all the way through. The mask/hair match was a lot of fun, although not quite as fun as the match last month. Cesaro/Sheamus wasn't quite as good as I expected because they didn't have more time, but it was still really good and I enjoyed the finish. I actually liked the Rhodes Bros/Rybaxel tag match quite a bit and then Big E vs Rusev was pretty good for the time it had. I didn't expect to like Cena/Wyatt nearly as much as I did AND even thought the finish was well done if they were going to go with Cena winning. Evolution/Shield was just "good" up until the last 10 minutes at which point I think it was great. I don't even know where they go with The Shield at this point except a breakup, I don't see what other group they can throw at them unless they want to try and rehash the Wyatts feud.

Wow and now they are opening with Sheamus/Cesaro? Looks like I'll be watching this one and calling it an early night.
-
I almost feel like I can just watch the rest of the show tomorrow now that I've seen the match I wanted to see most. Maybe I'll be alone on this one but I was laughing my ass off at Hornswoggle's reactions during the head shaving.

Sheamus/Cesaro had a pretty good match on Main Event a few weeks back so I'm expecting them to have a really good one and the best on the show tonight if they have time. El Torito/Hornswoggle has the potential to be the most fun match of the year especially if you include what will surely be a ridiculous post match head shaving. The rest of the card I'm not all that excited about although I fully expect that the main event 6 man will be really good. Actually think Big E & Rusev might be able to make people care about their match tonight if they just come out and wrestle like big dudes throwing bombs at each other. Like, they should be watching Festus vs. Vladimir Kozlov.

I was way behind on NXT and have been catching up this weekend. I just finished watching the Adrian Neville vs. Brodus Clay No DQ title match. So Brodus Clay is pretty...not good. I think now that the Funkasaurus character was actually the best thing they could have possibly done with him because he doesn't make a very good monster heel.

I think NXT might deserve it's own Current NXT thread at this point.

One of my dream matches is to see The Nightmares wrestle The Fantastics anywhere between 86-88. The Fantastics definitely feel like a really under rated or "forgotten" team. I really had never even heard of them before the Mid-South set but I have to agree with people saying they were better against MX than RNR was. They had some really good matches with MX on the Mid-South set and I thought their match from the first Clash of the Champions was even better.

Yes

I feel like Brad Maddox as GM was a real wasted opportunity. There were a few weeks before SummerSlam where he was pretty much the only authority figure on Raw and it was a real refreshing take to have him be "inexperienced authority figure way over his head" instead of "heel authority figure take 10592"

It wasn't a total dud, the angle with Scott Armstrong jumping in the ring to count for his brother was pretty good. I think the show was either poorly paced or badly edited together because they ran that big angle and then didn't even mention it again for the next 20 minutes. Plus it had that really weird segment with Stubbs & DWB talking about a time limit draw that wasn't on the show. I forgot to mention that it seems like The Sheik has disappeared. So no more fireball gifs from The Sheik. Anyone even know who that guy was? I can't recall ever seeing him wrestle under another gimmick or anything.

Is it wrong that the match I'm most looking forward to is El Torito vs. Hornswoggle? I'm pretty sure Cesaro/Sheamus is going to be the best match on the card but I have REALLY liked the Torito/Swoggle feud. Hopefully they bring in someone for El Torito to work with once they blow off the Hornswoggle feud. But back to Sheamus, does anyone know if he was actually supposed to be turning heel? There were rumors that his heel turn was him winning the U.S. Title in the battle royal but it definitely feels like that was just some shit someone made up because they haven't done anything to position Sheamus as a heel since then. I think he would really benefit from a turn because he's really good in the ring but there is no reason to care about him.

Add Ricky Steamboat & Bill Behrens to that list as the two original authority figures (even though there were technically more) They had more than 1 from the very first weekly PPV so I guess we shouldn't be too surprised how things continued. Bob Armstrong might be able to go on the list also from that time period.
-
Actually I think it could be a fun exercise to try and list every on screen authority figure TNA has had since the first weekly PPV.
