But Punk looked like shit coming out of that feud and it took him a long time to get back to the level he was at before that.

If they are so worried about building stars they should have Titus O'Neil coming out and destroying Adam Rose and the Rosebuds. I have no idea why they don't see dollar signs all over him.

Were the Death of the Territories in the 80s Inevitable?
goc replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
Well a lot of guys just passed through to get national TV time on the show or to work an Omni card so I would work with the concept of trying to poach some of those outside guys. I'd try to build around Dusty Rhodes, Piper, JYD ,Sgt Slaughter,Freebirds, Paul Orndorff, Buzz Sawyer, Ole Anderson, Butch Reed, Ivan Koloff and keep regional draws like Mr Wrestling II and Tommy Rich around your core areas while you try to expand. I don't really see them as being a truly NATIONAL promotion as in going EVERYWHERE but they would have national TV exposure and they could have taken a lot of territory in the south. -
Were the Death of the Territories in the 80s Inevitable?
goc replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
I think the only way WWF doesn't take over is if Georgia Championship Wrestling makes a hard push first in 82 or 83. They had a ton of talent, they had at the time the only national wrestling TV audience, and they had already ventured out of their home territory of Georgia to start running in Ohio and West Virginia. But the territories were inevitably going to die, cable TV would have seen to it. -
If you jump in at USWA you're jumping in way past the peak.

Catching up to the end of Legends House and watching the Game Show episode. Jimmy Hart still using the line about being a good Christian athlete who would never cheat 30+ years later is the best.

I was looking up some Buzz Sawyer results and went on one of those internet journeys where you get completely off course and wind up somewhere you never really planned to go. Stumbled on this article about Lars Anderson with one of the greatest bullshit stories of all time. Lars was run out of Hawaii, by way of attempted murder, because there was too much money in his idea of running a big stadium show in Hawaii.

One of the most interesting things about Buzz watching the Georgia footage is how he's not ALWAYS "The Mad Dog". Sometimes he's calm and gives these very subdued promos that really add to the character and even to his sense of danger. You see him calm for a bit but you know that at any moment he can completely flip and become the The Mad Dog. Gordon eloquently referred to them as the moments when Buzz is "the eye of the hurricane."

Does anybody give a shit about Randy Orton?
goc replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in The Microscope
Taking a sabbatical doesn't even work to freshen a guy up in WWE anymore because the booking is so terrible that 2 weeks after someone comes back they seem to already be treading water and not doing anything important. Like Sheamus' recent return and Christian's before that. Even RVD, which some people can blame on the fact that he hasn't updated his look or moveset in over a decade, but the crowds still seem to be excited to see him when he makes the initial return. -
Video quality was probably the biggest reason I did decide to scrap my tapes. I knew with the amount of DVDs that I had unwatched there was just no realistic expectation that I'd go back to VHS just to watch some old WWF PPVs. I junked a lot of DVDs when the Network came out for the same reason, I just don't see the need to store large amounts of physical DVDs for PPVs that I can just watch on The Network.

It would seem as if you and I are watching the same Georgia stuff at the moment. I haven't watched as much as you yet but it's definitely peaked my interest to the detriment of those who are following my Continental thread. It's better. The height and the way he sometimes seems to just float for so long in the air makes Sawyer's powerslams against Burrhead Jones & Mike Starbuck some of the best I have ever seen

I'm Reviewing Impact Weekly Now For Voices of Wrestling
goc replied to Dylan Waco's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Oh and if you ARE going to keep writing those TNA reviews, at least keep plugging the latest Titus O'Neal match to watch on Superstars or Main Event because I always forget and then when I catch up I tell myself that I should at least be skipping through these things every week to see what he is up to. -
I searched to see if there was previously a Microscope Thread on Buzz Sawyer and didn't see it so I thought I'd go ahead and start one. I've been watching a little bit of 1983 Georgia that I came across and Buzz comes off as seriously dangerous and unhinged. I'm not sure there are too many other people in wrestling who come across as just plain DANGEROUS as Buzz during this time period, probably because it wasn't much of a work. Other than the now widely known Jim Duggan match from the Mid-South WWE DVD, are there any really good Buzz Sawyer matches to seek out? I know the Last Battle of Atlanta match with Tommy Rich is kind of the holy grail of unearthed (most likely non-existent) footage but is there anything to really seek out from his time in Japan or short WCW run?

My wrestling videos had one last hurrah about 7 years ago as I knew I was going to be moving soon and decided to see if it was worth bringing the tapes and VCR with me. They didn't make the cut.

Dylan your time would be much better spent finding hidden indy gems on youtube. I highly doubt you will ever make me want to watch TNA, but I do check out some of the stuff you write about indies. I just watched some Kyle Matthews stuff the other week. -
No, ECW on Sci Fi was actually well booked and entertaining.

Ok well I made it about an hour and then Dixie came on my TV and I just couldn't deal with the complete lack of awareness. Sweetie you are not over as a heel, people just genuinely think that you are fucking clueless moron.

Ok so I am watching iMPACT live as it happens on TV for like the first time since it came on Saturday nights. MVP needs to use Just for Men on that goatee.

Crowd sourcing: Hacksaw Duggan interview questions
goc replied to evilclown's topic in Pro Wrestling
Ask him how he felt about WCW using his battle with cancer in the angle with Goldberg to try and get Golberg over as a heel? If you don't remember, when Goldberg went heel the two had a match on Nitro where Goldberg focused his attack on Duggan's kidney and Duggan was stretchered out after losing. -
That makes it sound like he isn't coming back after the movie promotion, did he mention coming back at all?
-
If one of them was to join the Wyatts then I would want it to be Goldust.
-
I kind of wish they would do it MORE. There are so many people on the roster who could benefit from doing something completely different.
-
There is NO WAY this angle doesn't lead to Cody turning on Goldust now.
