Wrestling thoughts that probably don't deserve
JHawk replied to Coffey's topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
Bruiser's signature is the coolest thing ever. That is all. -
The Turnbuckle Memories sets sucked. Hey, I love seeing those old squash matches in the right context, but why not release some of the Battle of the Belts shows or something along with them instead of some random TV episodes? Or at least do the episodes in order or something. Normally the news of Vince buying footage disturbs me, but I can't say this one does.

Then let me clarify that I've never seem a good Baba match, and the only passable matches I've ever seen him in were tag matches. So I'd be very interested in seeing this match or his match with Destroyer.
-
Wait a second. A good Baba match? Billy Robinson might be the greatest wrestler of all-time if that's the case.
-
And the first time it happens there's a potentially huge lawsuit against not only ebay but WWE as well. And a good lawyer would net you millions.
-
Rehashing a lot of what he said in his RF shoot a few years ago, really. Heenan shoots are second only to Cornette's for honesty and entertainment value.
-
Give it six months and you'll be able to post it. They do this every year for about three months, then forget about it for a while.
-
Holy shit there's a ton of great stuff there. I don't see why he only put the third fall of Rogers-O'Connor on there, as that's one hell of a match, especially for 1963.
-
Notice that me pimping it in my first-ever Today in Wrestling History column at TSM wasn't enough for him to see it. He needed Tim to hype it to him. Glad you saw it though, as it was a fantastic match.

Flair went 1:00:18 (entered at 1:44, the match went 1:02:02) in 1992. Backlund went 1:01:14 in 1993. Benoit went 1:01:48 (i think) in 2004. And Rey went 1:02:15 this year. 34 years since someone topped 62 minutes? Wow.

Just saw this. Classic Cornette there.

So RVD can get buried before he even gets to Triple H? Nice.
-
Count me in if this ever gets off the ground. I really need a DVD recorder to helps some of you guys out with projects like these though.

Her winning the title from Jarrett still pisses me off. Especially since I was in attendance. Teddy Long stares directly at Jarrett using the belt, counts the pin, then goes "Oops, sorry, you can't do that." And how the hell is a guitar a household appliance? Yeah, that killed the title worse than Godfather's ever could.

They should have been ignored? Fact: Cena has been built as Raw's top babyface since Batista was drafted to SmackDown in June. Even above HBK. Fact: Cena was the most popular guy going into SummerSlam, and the crowd turned on him in midmatch and began rooting for Jericho. Fact: Ever since then, Cena has been getting less and less popular, to the point that the vast majority of people who are cheering for him are women or young white kids who think emulating the hip hop culture is cool. Fact: If your top babyface is getting more boos than your heel challenger every week, you've got two options. Move him out of the main event altogether, or turn him heel. The fact that ratings actually went up following the post-NYR spike with Edge as champion shows me that Cena, in the long run, is more likely to cost Vince McMahon money than make him money. It isn't like Cena was booed in one or two areas of the country. The only place Cena's been cheered lately was the last two weeks in the Carolinas where he was given a rub with Ric Flair. Take Flair out of the equation and Cena's reaction there is likely mixed at best. Vince chose not to ignore it, ratings went up, and they screwed it up. Plain and simple.

I still post there on occasion, but it's really gotten too far onto the current scene for my tastes. Still, every so often there's a gem of a thread that has to be read. Find the Pinkie George thread that got bumped the other day. Lots of interesting stuff to sift through

Unless I missed it, nobody's mentioned the dreaded hair pull.

I sat in on a Les Thatcher training seminar last year, and he was berating these two guys for an Irish whip spot because they just started running, and "any eight year old kid with any knowledge of leverage at all could see right through that". He was stressing the importance of the giver getting the extra ummph and the receiver waiting for the right time to start moving toward the ropes. And yet HWA is the one that lost the developmental deal. ::shrugs::

Since I heard they actually wanted somebody with wrestling knowledge. Actually, the indy promotion I occasionally referee for is considering making me a broadcaster for their tapes and DVDs, but they run so infrequently that I doubt it'll ever happen.
-
I have this show (with Roma-Bellomo and Jack-Barry O thankfully nowhere to be found). I enjoyed the six man and the Harts-Bees match, but for the life of me can't remember the rest of the matches. Pretty forgettable without the main, actually.
-
Me too. I think one time if I remember correctly they were doing a long shot of the arena and in the bottom part of the screen you can see Kanyon diamond cutting some poor innocent bystander. I remember marking out for that as if there was no tommorrow. That did happen. Someone even posted the clip on TSM once upon a time.
-
And yet I'm sending my resume for the broadcasting job. I just want a record of my being in attendance when Teddy Hart ruins another opportunity. Besides, I have no pride.
-
Honestly, I'd be interested in discs 8-12, but I have most of the stuff on the first seven discs already. Having the entire package wouldn't be bad though since some of my stuff from 1997 is 2nd or 3rd gen though.

I think they're just planting seeds in the event UPN doesn't renew SmackDown. But in reality, the ratings really haven't dropped off like anybody thought they would (and in fact, UPN has more people watching Friday nights than they probably ever had), so they'd be foolish to cancel it.
