  2. Yes, and in the buildup to that PPV, HHH/Eugene got more TV time and focus than Benoit/Orton, the supposed main event. It's gone beyond HHH doing jobs -- it's not about him always winning, although that's part of it. It's about the fact that everything that happens to his character is the absolute most important thing on RAW.
  3. He had another one in late 2002 on the other leg, but it didn't tear completely off the bone, so he didn't take any time off. He's pretty beat up though. I don't know if he's still having problems passing out backstage or not.
  4. Basically, what that means is that HHH needs to win the belt six more times before his career is over. In the past three years, he's won/been given the belt five times, which means at the pace he's going, in another three years, he will have beaten Flair's record. Will he last that long? I tend to think so, unfortunately.
  5. It would be totally against everything Vince stands for to job out his top babyface when he has a movie coming out. He's lost his mind the past few years and succumbed to the powers of nepotism, but if he's a bigger mark for anything than his son-in-law, it's mainstream exposure, and that's just how the company thinks. I asked Meltzer about it on WOL and he said the absolute earliest he sees HHH wanting the belt would be Summerslam, and he thinks in this case even HHH will say that he shouldn't get the belt until Cena's movie comes out.
  6. Sometime in September I think.
  7. Although, I don't see HHH taking the belt back until Cena's CD has cooled down and his movie has premiered and is out of theatres.

  9. He also did it once before that when he was asked to put over Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series 2002. And if you want to go back further, he also did it in 1993 when he was supposed to put over Bret Hart at Summerslam.
  10. Match #1 - 3 Count v Jung Dragons This is a tough one, since most of their best matches seemed to come against each other. So, which team stood out more? I guess you have to look at the participants in each match? They each had an albatross to bear -- the Dragons had Jimmy Yang and 3 Count had Evan Karagias. Yang is far better than Karagias so the Dragons get the edge there. Then, look at each team's best worker. 3 Count had Helms and the Dragons had Jamie Noble. In this case, Helms edged out Noble for contributions to his team, although Noble would shine brighter after going on his own and it's hard to say which guy outworked the other one in the final months of WCW. Between Kaz Hayashi and Shannon Moore, I have to give the nod to Kaz Hayashi. Very close, very tough, but in the end, I think the choice is the only one I can make. Jung Dragons Match #2 - Barry Windham & Dustin Rhodes v Los Guerreros Here's where the word "potential" comes into play. Los Guerreros had the potential to be a great tag team over the long haul while Windham and Rhodes *were* a great tag team over the long haul. Eddy's always great, but it took him some time to find his groove again after his comeback, and it didn't really happen to the fullest until he went solo, turned babyface and became a headliner. Windham and Rhodes were about as ready-made as a team can be. They had what stands as a true candidate for the best WCW match of all-time teaming against Steve Austin and Larry Zbyszko at SuperBrawl II. They had great matches against the Dangerous Alliance for the entirety of 1992 and won the tag titles in another fantastic match against the MVC that fall. I also liked the vet/youngster dynamic they had going, and I think they were better at working the crowd. They also benefitted from better, more consistent booking. To me, Windham & Rhodes are the true darkhorses of this tournament, in that they're one of the best tag teams of the 90s, but they don't often get credit for what they were able to do and for the matches they had, just because 1992 WCW had so much great going for it that not everything got the recognition it deserved. Eddy and Chavo could have been better over the long haul, considering the talent level of the duo, but they never hit that level, and their peaks were nowhere near as high as those of the Windham/Rhodes duo. Barry Windham & Dustin Rhodes Match #3 - Booker T & Goldust v Nasty Boys Speaking of lost tag teams, Bookerdust were *on fire* in 2002. Had really good matches with just about every team they faced, and they managed to get Booker T over as a credible singles star for the first time in WWE. They had great chemistry both in the ring and on the mic, and their run briefly revitalized Dustin Rhodes in a year when no one expected him to come back so strong. I don't want to totally write off the Nasties either, though, as they were really good brawlers and their best match (Steiners, Halloween Havoc '90) far surpasses the best Bookerdust match (Vitamin C, RAW 12/23/02). That said, the Nasties have had some stinkers too, and I don't remember Booker T & Goldust having anything that was horrible. The Nasties were also able to have some really spirited brawls with Cactus Jack and his partner du jour at any given moment, and they didn't have their legs cut off with the frequency that the Bookerdust duo did. It's a stalemate for me, so I'm going to flip a coin. Nasty Boys -- and I better not come back and edit this because I'll probably change my mind a million times today Match #4 - Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho v Natural Disasters This is the easiest pick of the first four matches for me, if only because I can point to at least one good match the Canadians have had. Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho
  11. Vote for the team that you feel had the best run as a tag team from 1985 to 2005. Voting will last approximately 24 hours and the winner of each match will advance to the second round. Because the goal of the tournament is to promote discussion, please feel free to explain how you came to your decision as much as possible. Match #1 - 3 Count v Jung Dragons Match #2 - Barry Windham & Dustin Rhodes v Los Guerreros Match #3 - Booker T & Goldust v Nasty Boys Match #4 - Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho v Natural Disasters
  12. If that happens, Edge will end up like Chris Jericho going on a losing streak before winning the title when no one expects or wants him to do so. I fear for his future if that's how they're thinking (and it probably is).
  13. 3 Count Jung Dragons *Winning team faces Bulldogs in next round* Barry Windham & Dustin Rhodes Los Guerreros *Winning team faces Edge & Christian in next round* Booker T & Goldust Nasty Boys *Winning team faces Fantastics in next round* Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho Natural Disasters *Winning team faces Hollywood Blondes in next round* Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko New Age Outlaws *Winning team faces Eaton & Lane in next round* Demolition Outsiders *Winning team faces Owen Hart & Davey Boy Smith in next round* Doom Powers of Pain *Winning team faces Road Warriors in next round* Dream Team Public Enemy *Winning team faces Rock & Roll Express in next round* Edge & Rey Misterio Jr Raven & Perry Saturn *Winning team faces Rockers in next round* Eliminators Shawn Michaels & Diesel *Winning team faces Rick & Scott Steiner in next round* Fabulous Freebirds (Hayes & Garvin) Smoking Gunns *Winning team faces Williams & Gordy in next round* Gangstas Strike Force *Winning team faces Eaton & Condrey in next round* Hardy Boyz Twin Towers *Winning team faces Hart Foundation in next round* Harlem Heat US Express *Winning team faces original Freebirds in next round* Heavenly Bodies Vitamin C *Winning team faces Dudleyz in next round* Ivan & Nikita Koloff TWGTT *Winning team faces Brainbusters in next round*
  14. The following tag teams automatically get a bye into the second round based on pre-tournament voting. Brainbusters (Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard) British Bulldogs (Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith) Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray & D-Von) Edge & Christian Fabulous Freebirds (Hayes/Gordy/Roberts) Fantastics (Tommy Rogers & Bobby Fulton) Hart Foundation (Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart) Hollywood Blondes (Steve Austin & Brian Pillman) Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Dennis Condrey) Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) Miracle Violence Connection (Steve Williams & Terry Gordy) Owen Hart & Davey Boy Smith Rick & Scott Steiner Road Warriors/Legion of Doom Rock & Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty)
  15. Edge losing is strange. I guess there are no plans to push him in the top heel spot come Summerslam.

  17. "Hulk Hogan, you may be a household name, but so is garbage, and it stinks when it gets old too."
  18. Tony Schiavone: "Where's Stan Lane?" Jim Cornette: "The Home Of Unwed Mothers is about to go out of business, so Sweet Stan is there providing them with more unwed mothers."
  19. "I have a programming note before I get going. World Championship Wrestling will not be shown tomorrow night here on the Superstation, so that TBS may bring you a replay of the Hawks/Celtics game, which will be broadcast in black and white with no sound."
  20. I think HHH/Batista has been overhyped. I'm SO sick of hearing about that match and seeing that stupid video package, a video package that will most likely play again tonight on Heat and before the match starts. Angle/Michaels could be a good match, but like in the movies, sequels typically aren't as good. The rest of the show is either too predictable (Edge is about to get pushed so no way he jobs, no way Cena drops the belt in a match featuring the two biggest top tier jobbers in the company) or features characters no one really cares about.
  21. Rob Van Dam, if released, could be the top star of a new company that competed against them. He's too over for them to fire, so the ball is sort of in his court.
  22. He won't last. He'll storm out again after he's asked to do something he doesn't want to do. That's always the story with him.

  24. There were all sorts of problems with BTM because he wanted to buy the rights to it and Blaustein felt that would hurt the credibility of the documentary and refused. As a result, Vince blocked him from advertising on the USA Network completely (the doc was shown on USA after they left for TNN) and there was heat from Vince on Foley for continuing with the promotion of it.
  25. I think there were problems getting legal clearance for it, IIRC. He may eventually find a loophole.
