Puroresu vs Lucha Libre vs American Wrestling?
Loss replied to blackholesun's topic in Pro Wrestling
I don't know if dumbed down is the phrase I would use, but his style has become a lot more patterned and he's eliminated a lot of his matwork. Still a great worker, but in a different way. -

Not to mention that now, the styles around the world are more alike than they have been at any time I can recall. I see Japanese influence in WWE with the increased focus on athleticism. I see old style American influence in New Japan with the heel factions and outside interference. Even lucha libre doesn't seem as "pure" as it used to. There is still lots of good wrestling, but I can't recall a time when the available wrestling styles have been less diverse. -
For Fujinami, having not dived into the rest of the decade too much yet, I'd call his 1980 pretty amazing. If he has other years not just where he maintains the match quality, but does so continuing with that much matwork, that's quite the accomplishment. I'm guessing he shifts his style to work more theatrical with Choshu when their feud kicks off. I love that style too, but the early 80s Fujinami is the type of great wrestling that's harder to find.

There's handheld footage of a match between them in late '86.

It doesn't surprise me that WWE embraces the surveillance state.

While I agree with the post about how many people here view wrestling, I never want anyone who posts here to feel pressured to assimilate or get lost. We can mostly agree on a few things without creating a hive mentality. That's never what I want it to be like here. -
Bryan has beaten Kane many times, but he's never been able to neutralize him to the point that he's no longer a thorn in his side at all. Maybe that's the way to build this match -- Bryan has beaten Kane over and over and it hasn't mattered. He can't just beat him. He has to hurt him and sideline him. And that's a tall order against a monster.

When/how did his heel run in ROH actually end? I just know from watching MOTYCs he was a major heel then suddenly a babyface.

This was ok. Hornswaggle isn't much of a worker. The commentary was WAY too heavy-handed in trying to make this a moment instead of just letting this speak for itself. They need to find a way to get Torito into an angle where he's bullied by a monster heel near the top of the card.

Paige is working hellaciously stiff in all of these matches. That lariat she ate on the floor from Aksana was a rewind moment. Sad this didn't have much heat as it was a fun little match, but she's a new type of woman and it might take her a little longer to build a following.

ROH having all of their shows on demand through a network similar to WWE's might actually be profitable at this point, especially since they now have some marketable guys in their archives. Maybe a lot of the indies with extensive tape libraries should network and do something like that, actually.
