  1. Holy fuck is saying it right....that ending sequence is fuckin sick....
  2. Parv's Learning to Love Dory thread sent me to these two matches: Dory Funk Jr / Terry Funk vs. The Sheik / Great Mephisto - Dec 1980 Tag League - AJPW This wasnt a 4 or 5 star match, but it was a fun brawl that saw Terry play FIP for a while as Mephisto and The Sheik took turns working on him. After the hot tag, match broke down into a huge brawl with all 4 in and out of the ring. Sheik ran in with what looked like a hook from a horror movie to attach, but got a few shots from Dory instead that saw the hook go flying,. End saw all 4 again outside with Terry / Sheik and Dory / Mephisto paired off into a brawl that ended up all over the arena, which was a blast to watch as I havent watched a lot of Sheik matches (and the ones I have seen were singles and he bored the piss out of me walking around and jabbing his opponent repeatedly) before reading a few reviews in Parv's thread. I still wanna know what the hell Sheik brought into the ring, it legitimately could have killed someone if connected! The Sheik / Great Mephisto vs. Abdullah the Butcher / Tor Kamata - Dec 1980 Tag League - AJPW Another fun all out fight that doesnt see a winner. Kamata takes most of the beating in this one, while the other 3 do take some beatings, but also get a lot of offense in. Babyface Abby is cool to see as the crowd eats up every shot or kick he deilvers. All 4 bleed good and Sheik has a decent sized stick that he uses to open up Abby and Kamata. Cool scene at the end seeing Abby and Kamata in the ring, with Abby raising his arms in victory, before Sheik and Mephisto return for more fighting.. These matches have made me want to see more Sheik and Abby in tag matches, especially in Japan I hadnt been fond of either guy before this as Sheik I mentioned earlier, and the most Abby I'd seen was from Texas vs. Brody and I really didnt enjoy it as it was hugely repetitive as well..
  3. Gotta add "We're outta time, we gotta go..." while a HOT main event feud match is in the ring and the face is close to winning... or a variation of this adds the "We gotta go, then the ref counts 1, 2,.....black.."
  4. Yeah, the Warrior / HTM squash wins and its not close. That is a moment in WWF / Wrestling history that the WM XII wasnt, at all. HTM had that title for a long time and kept sneaking away with it, be it Savage / Steamboat / Beefcake / etc, he kept slinking away by any means he could. When he stands in the ring defiantly and says "bring anyone out here" you just wanted to see him get destroyed...then the music hits, Warrior enters, destroys, and wins...and like that, the HTM's reign is over and his cockiness finally got the best of him as he never even got his jumpsuit off.. Plus, Warrior was still really fresh and on his way up, so the full "Ultimate Warrior" push and huge popularity kicked off from there, where at Mania XII, he was back, but it didnt feel like it did 8 years earlier, and HHH hadnt really been close to any level of upper tier start yet, so the squash was just a squash over a mid-card guy and nothing else. Looking back after seeing where HHH would go, the squash looks impressive, but put it in 96 and it really wasnt more than "Warrior is back and lets have him mow down someone that it wont hurt that bad to get the fans behind him again" kind of thing.
  5. Sorry to change directions here, but have a question for Boricua / Dylan / anyone else with good Puerto Rico knowledge: What is the storyline behind the "Original TNT (Action Jackson)" and TNT (Savio Vega)? Was Jackson TNT, then maybe left, and then Vega took the character, followed by Jackson returning and claiming it? Curious how this feud worked...
  6. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and happy day to those that dont observe it. I second the shoutout to GH for this place...I may not post as much as others, but I am here 7- 8 times a day checking and reading the threads. The good, the bad, the fun, the fights, its a GREAT place to be a wrestling fan.. What's your Thanksgiving wrestling plans if you have any? For me, its family till abour 7 then trying to check out either the Hijo Del Santo heel turn, return match, and the 3 way with Dandy and Casas or some AJPW Tsuruta / Tenryu tags or some Carribean Express in Puerto Rico...whichever mood hits me when I finally sit down.. Enjoy your day!
  7. Two shows on a Monday....fuck yes....one issue...its during a short week....only 3 days of driving back and forth to get as much in as I can.. Damn you Thanksgiving weekend... Started in on the Bock show, 40 min and didnt wanna stop...cant wait to hear the rest of my personal pick for best ever...
  8. Waiting and WAITING for some more Bock stuff....there wasnt a ton from the listings I have seen, but what's there looks to be incredible
  9. Sorry if I missed this...but what is the difference in Bold and not Bold? Thanks for putting these together, makes organizing the matches easier and gives a good look at that point in time...appreciate the hard work fellas!
  10. All three matches are / were CLASSICS in every sense of the word, but Magnum / Tully has the one extra thing the other two dont....real hatred coming through. These guys looked like they legitimally hated each other and wanted to end the other's career from the minute they step in that cage. "Fuck the fans. Right now, I want to kick your ass and make you quit cause I am better than you and I wanna make you my bitch." Both guys have that on their face before the match starts. The look on Magnum's face at the end of the match says it all. "Fuck you motherfucker, you tried everything to take me out, but guess what? YOU quit, you piece of shit...gimme my belt, I'm out." I dont see that TRUE hatred to really want to hurt the other in either of the other two matches. For that reason, Magnum / Tully goes above the other two and as great as the other two are, its not close with Magnum / Tully...
  11. Damn, I am not online for a day or two, log back on and find out my favorite wrestler of all time is gone... Sad day indeed....RIP Bock...I didnt know you, but you made a huge impression on me on what an educated champion should be!!
  12. Another knock out show....hearing the Art Barr / Eddy Stories from after the match were great....I wonder if really handed 100 G's beforehand if they stiff Octagon in the segunda caida and forcably pin him? That would have sent shockwaves...although Eddie and Art wouldnt be able to go near Mexico or even the border afterward. How would they have handled that on TV on within AAA? Would Santo have taken it off or would they try some way to change it? The show wasnt over yet, so they couldnt just cut to black...Kris / Bix, any clue what could have happened? That would have made Montreal look like child's play with all the history and importance of Santo and the mask in Mexico...

  14. Wow....thanks a ton cubsfan..... Will use that and your youtube channel and luchablog to get myself situated and dive into things...
  15. Fuck yes....I listen to it in the car on drives to and from work....I keep hearing matches to see and by the time I get to my computer, I remember only 1/2 of them. Maybe do a "See these matches discussed" list in the thread for the show each episode? That would be helpful.... Great show again to, Kris Z has the two best shows available right now (with Bix on Between the Sheets as well), so keep em coming, keep em long and informative! Cant wait to hear more of Embry in PR....
  16. Invaders #1 / #3 vs. Sheepherders - North American Tag Titles - Barbed Wire Match - WWC - August 25, 1985 Four men enter, beat the shit out of each other for 12 minutes, the Sheeps bleed buckets and the Invaders win....simple and fuckin awesome....check it out on Youtube...
  17. And then that Mummy (The Yet-ay, at Tony Schiavone proudly said) promptly came to the ring and, with the Giant, Double Humped Hogan in the middle of the ring....that's shark jumping 101.
  18. What are the current TV shows for AAA and CMLL? Are they available online to watch weekly? How many PPV's does each promotion have these days? They are available on iPPV? Thanks ahead of time as I am looking for some details....
  19. Do you Know the date of the first one. I'd love to see it to forget about the one I saw
  20. Lizmark © vs. La Parka - NWA World Middleweight Title - AAA - 7-18-94 ....And my run of good lucha comes to a screeching halt. I dont know what else to say but this match sucked. It was bad. They were moving in what seemed like slow motion the entire match, with nothing really building off anything else and neither guy really doing that much outside a tope suicida from Lizmark to La Parka that ended in a double countout and Lizmark's powerbomb that ended it. Once the tercera caida started, both masks got ripped and La Parka in particular did nothing but hold his mask the rest of the way while Lizmark followed, slowly, behind. I cant find any positives in this match, so if anyone else has seen it and can tell me what I missed, please do. Not a match I will watch again...
  21. El Dandy © / Lizmark / Sangre Chicana vs. Jerry Estrada / El Satanico © / Emilio Charles Jr - CMLL - 11-9-90 This was a decent trios match as I am now learning how these matches work and flow thanks to Matt D. Match sees the rudos jump early and take control..match breaks down to just Satanico and Dandy where Satanico gets the submission for fall 1. Second fall sees the rudos continue to dominate early, until technicos take over..end of the fall sees Chicana submit Charles in the corner while Lizmark hits a flying headbut on Estrada for the pin. Third fall goes back and forth until Chicana takes out Charles and Lizmark takes out Estrada with a sweet cross body from the top rope to the floor. Match comes down to Dandy and Satanico. Dandy gets the submission after a big kick to the back of the head followed by the mexican surf board submission... Things I really liked about the match: Satanico, even after getting a fall on Dandy being like "Oh fuck" everytime it comes to him and Dandy face to face in the ring, including him hiding from Dandy while his team loses the second fall. Lizmark's offense is awesome and he hits a NASTY powerbomb on Charles. Emilio Charles Jr's bumping is great, which is becoming a trend to me. Estrada's HUGE backdrop outside of the ring to the floor he takes from Lizmark that leads to Lizmark's flying cross body from the top Couple things I didnt like about the match: Chicana coming in the ring multiple times and just standing there over and over almost watching while the rudos work over a teammate, until the refs push him back to his corner. Almost looked like each time Chicana came in he was waiting for the refs to come over to him...didnt understand that. Refs pushing technicos away when they enter, yet letting the rudos do their thing and double team (is that a lucha thing?).
  22. El Hijo Del Santo / Perro Aguayo / Octagon vs. Mascara Ano 2000 / Jerry Estrada / Heavy Metal - AAA - 7-5-93 My first 90's trios match in my lucha journey and this is something I have to get used to before I can really like or dislike a match, although I can say I didnt hate this. This was a ton of action all around, with the Rudos suprisingly getting the victory with Heavy Metal pinning Santo to win the third fall. I really like Octagon's russian leg sweep into a submission finisher he uses (second time I've seen it), not sure what its called, but its cool as shit to watch. Santo got cut open and bled a TON all over the ring and the other wrestlers as it was pouring from his mask. I really liked Mascara Ano 2000's rudo actions and want to see more of him in action, and even with his brothers. Perro Aguayo was again fun to watch, but he spent a ton of the match on the floor, outside a few shots in the ring and hitting his double stomp from the top to help win the second fall. Comes down to Santo and Heavy Metal in the ring near the end. Santo was trying hard to put Heavy Metal away but the blood loss and fatigue were to much and Heavy Metal finally got the rollup to pin him, which shocked me as finish. But I also dont know the Rudo's standing in terms of high or low up the card Heavy Metal was. I am definately seeking out more trios matches to watch as I loved all the action, just gotta get used to it all and the differences in how guys come in an out of the ring and how the pins work.. Also love the group of women outside in the seats wearing the Rudo's shirts and going nuts for them..great to see that stuff. Atlantis © vs. Emilio Charles Jr - NWA World Middleweight Title - CMLL - 9-21-90 Saw this match listed on Segunda Caida as Matt D reviewed it, so I am not going to even try and go over it as his review of it was damn good, but I watched it before reading his review to not spoil it. Quick match with what I thought was a GREAT, out of no where ending. Had some good technical wrestling early that broke down into more action as the match went along. Too short to be great, but not to bad in my opinion, especially the ending. This was part of an ongoing feud from what Matt detailed. I'd like to see more of this, especially the match a month later at the 57th Anniversario show.
  23. Lizmark © vs. El Satanico - NWA World Middleweight Title - AAA - 9-17-93 My initial journey through Lucha continues as I picked this match out of my pile of matches I have accumulated. Its not on the Yearbook, so I have to assume what's on there is better than this. That makes me excited for those matches as I really dug this title match and its my first look at each guy. I know Satanico is on the 80s set a few times but I havent watched any of his matches from the set yet. Good technical match on the mat with some high flying here and there to make things interesting. The thing I really liked is that no matter what position either guy was in, both were looking to the next hold to either get out of the position they were in or to gain a bigger advantage looking for a submission or a pin. The second fall that Lizmark won I didnt fully understand as once he had Satanico in the victory roll (or close to it), he was hopping around on top of Satanico while the ref counted, when Satanico's shoulders werent actually down for 3 at any point as Lizmark kept picking them up. Lizmark's winning fall saw him do the same thing, but stop and keep the shoulders down for the 3 count this time. Either way, I enjoyed it and continue to look forward for more.... Konnan vs. Perro Aguayo - Steel Cage - AAA - When Worlds Collide Main event from the PPV. Nothing special about this one. Not a very exciting match, but tons of crowd heat as they hate Konnan and love Perro. Perro brings some fire, which isnt bad and takes a hellacious beating from Konnan and some brass knucks.. Eddie Guerrero and Madonna's Boyfriend as well as Cien Caras / Universario 2000 / Mascara Ano 2000 showing up make things interesting and Cien Caras getting involved leading to the finish got the crowd pumped. All that aside, holy fuck did Perro bleed buckets...it was incredible and I wanna see more Perro in bloody brawls and he's one of the best bleeders I have seen...looking forward to more.
  24. Eddie Guerrero / "Love Machine" Art Barr vs. El Hijo Del Santo / Octagon - November 1994 - When Worlds Collide Two words - Holy Shit! Man what a match...what a damn match. I just finished watching it and I loved every second of it, just an amazing, near perfect match. I know this is a known fact about how good this match is, but its my first viewing as my lucha watching continues. Art Barr...man, Art fuckin Barr... I cant wait to watch more of his run in Mexico, what a heat magnet and an AMAZING heel. Eddie is every bit as good as well and as a team, god damn, they were amazing together. I am gonna watch their match vs. Santo / Octagon from 93 soon, not expecting the same thing, but wanting to see more of Art and Eddie. I can only think how good they would have been in ECW as a team and wherever they went after that. Art Barr's frog splash is unreal, and even though Eddie's was great, it didnt touch Art's. Santo and Octagon are good in this match, but its the Art / Eddie show that makes this soo memorable. The heat from the crowd just ups the feel of the match, especially when Art and Eddie are 1 pin away from winning. Outside all this praise for the men, the match is run at an amazing pace and the falls are great and give a real sense of how close Santo and Octagon came to losing their masks and the crowd actually thinking "holy shit, they may lose their masks". One of my favorite matches I have ever seen... Even Art's walk to the back was amazing, with the hate and anger he has looking at those fans...
