  1. John, when have you last seen the WCWSN Flair-Steamboat match from '94? It's MUCH better than the PPV match and Main Event match.
  2. This is the promo with the reference to Americans drinking "cold tea," right?
  3. 1987 CWA is great for the first half and varies a lot for tue second half, but be warned that the Evansville set of shows floating around is missing some great Memphis-specific stuff. Still well worth watching but picking up WMC sourced episodes or comps in addition to the Evansville stuff gives a better picture of the first half, especially the Lawler vs Idol & Rich feud.
  4. By the way, I wish more people would check out Sting vs Spivey. They had a really fun match that makes me wonder what would've happened if the WCW/AJPW relationship didn't collapse and Sting ended up touring somewhat regularly as Baba had wanted.
  5. There was a lot of doubt as to whether or not HHH and Taker could have a match that lived up to the buildup and the legacy of Taker's matches with Michaels. Taker is pretty crippled at this point, even by his standards and HHH has never been THAT good. It's a miracle that the match was any good, much less comparable to the Michaels matches.
  6. IIRC Zenk does a superkick near the finish, which was one of his spots, not Douglas's.
  7. Steve Landesberg was the originally scheduled host. He got sick during the week and was replaced by Hogan/T. Dunno if it was because they were booked late in the writing process or what but they were only in the cold open (as Prince's bodyguards), the monologue (obviously), the Friday the 13th parody (Hogan only), and the famous Fernando's Hideaway sketch where Blly Crystal cracks them up. They only spoke during the monologue and Fernando sketches. They also introed a Piper/Orndorff promo and a Landesberg monologue (since he had gotten better by Saturday). No, nobody knows why the Netflix episodes are so badly butchered other than maybe some issues with the incidental music. Seasons 1-5 are the complete episodes because the rights were arranged for the DVDs.
  8. What is that warning from, Google? False alarm or the site got infected via hacker or ad server?
  9. I was pretty surprised not to see a bunch of terms a lot of us figured or heard were officially banned, like belt, violent/violence, hospital, police, etc.
  10. Hogan-Bundy was definitely the first time, with it being promoted as being able to withstand Bundy's weight. Last high profile match would be the Kennel match. They still used the steel bars cage on some house shows into the last decade. As far as house shows it seemed kinda random until they went uniform. The Mid-South/UWF cage was kinda weird in that the door was really small and it was clearly an effort for the wrestlers to get in.

    Edge retires

Shawn Michaels "retired" when he lost his smile. Yeah, I know... it didn't stick. John I'm pretty sure they said he could be back eventually and that he had a "potentially" career ending knee injury.

    Edge retires

From what WWE.com says, it looks like he was basically a bad bump away from being another Misawa:
  13. Edge? Good on him for not working on the injury after talking to the doctor.
  14. It's extra horrifying that he killed himself at a wrestling school like Steve Bradley did.
  15. Well, that's terrible.
  16. They discussed it in the documentary. IIRC it was to make WM different in addition to being a better song.
  17. He's also pumped so many bodybuilding drugs into his body that he can't find reading glasses that fit around his head and sit on his ears. Holy shit.
  18. Worst thing you've ever done by far.

    Vince Russo

Arezzi had an excellent show. He developed into a carny (well, he may have always been one, as he finagled his way into working a WWWF taping against Dusty years earlier with no training) but his radio show was great and he put together some fantastic fan conventions and not at the ridiculous prices that are charged now.

    Vince Russo

I wish more people knew Russo's history leading up to his WWF gig because it sure does flesh everything out more. He was running his video store and putting up the money to sponsor and "prouduce" John Arezzi's time buy radio show in NY. When the WWF sex scandals hit, Arezzi hit them as hard as anyone. Titan approached Russo (who wanted the show to be more lighthearted anyway), so he hijacked the timeslot and Arezzi's newsletter. He took over with his ridiculous cartoony Vicious Vincent's World of Wrestling show, which was very rah rah WWF. Russo eventually lost his store and the show, but he got hired as editor of WWF Magazine. And that's where the story you know starts off. With no scandals, Russo never gets any power in wrestling and just fades away. Or becomes a Lanoesque figure. Maybe.
  21. I would've expected him to be more pissed off about Eddy funeral chapter where Jericho is puzzled that Graham is in charge.

    Benoit vs Punk

He did a fake turn as the leader of the New Breed or whatever they were calling them before he turned back and revealed he was screwing with them. It was supposed to last longer before he revealed he was stringing them along but was cut down to just a week or two.
  23. Someone should check on Dave, he may have suffered a stroke.

    Benoit vs Punk

MJH is right, the PPV match was going to be their first.
  25. Ok, we need to get our hands on these this time.
