  1. Where was that posted? WMC hasn't posted that on their site yet.
  2. Alex Marvez is saying stroke or heart attack with stroke being more likely: http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/WWE-a...telecast-091012 Alvarez is saying the wrestlers were told it was a heart attack.
  3. Awesome work, Kris. Surprised you didn't mention his track record as a "Memphis-caliber" ratings draw in Macon, though.
  4. How'd you get GMC out of slumber? Last I heard from him, he had decided that he said all he had to say about wrestling in his book and subsequent interviews and didn't want to be interviewed anymore.
  5. As we've discussed in the past, Hennig being a top 5 guy wasn't exactly the consensus opinion at the time.
  6. He did almost get blackballed when he got fired from GCW. That's legit, Gary Hart talked about it in his book.
  7. NXT isn't "officially" available online. Just internationally on TV. Look for unofficialy YouTube uploads.
  8. Jamie Kellner cancelling all of Turner Broadcasting's wrestling programming made pro wrestling a toxic TV product immediately, and the effect lasted for several years. Besides already being seen as low-brow and getting about half of the ad money it should have for its audience, it was now being thrown off the networks it helped build. This is why the XWF went completely nowhere even with Hogan in the mix, why TNA came up with their crazy weekly PPV idea, etc.
  9. There's a post Dave made at Classics at some point where he talks about the level of a ratings draw II was at his peak...lemme see if I can find it...
  10. Awesome. Anyone know who the non-Tony Rumble "Boston Bad Boy" would be?
  11. I THINK the WCW PPVs were something weird like $27.50 around that time.

    Tonight's RAW

While your overall point is sound, it's worth pointing out that that's not exactly why Serena Deeb was fired. It was that her inability to curb her drinking in public while doing a straight edge gimmick was indicative of a bigger problem. Since she was recently arrested for boating under the influence, that was probably the right call. But back to the original topic. I think that as long as wrestling is presented the way it's always been presented, as a sports show without the credits a sitcom/drama would have, they need to at least maintain the "don't slap me in the face with it" level of kayfabe. Doing media, personal appearances, anti-bullying rallies, etc out of character is fine. But if you're doing a straight edge gimmick, don't drink at the hotel bar after a show. If you just had the blowoff match to your feud, don't go to Burger King together at the train station across the street while the fans are heading home like B.J. Whitmer and Brent Albright did in ROH. And so on.
  13. Why was that? Did PPV make it redundant? Yup.
  14. WM4 was the last year where CCTV was a substantial part of the equation. WM5 still did pretty well but CCTV fell off a cliff with WM6.
  15. I can't remember the last time I watched that Austin-Taker match but it was a really fun main event live. A bit underwhelming after the ladder match but still really good.
  16. With Brody, assuming he's talking about here, DVDVR, or another "related" board, when do we ever talk about Brody NOT in the context of his time? The biggest Brody thread we had was about how much better other '80s brawlers were. The vast majority of Brody discussion at DVDVR is '80s set forum threads discussing his best matches in the context of the best matches the promotions they were in. As for Angle: This point of view wouldn't bother me if it didn't come from a newsletter writer. Fans would enjoy a Hulk Hogan match more than anything these two could pull off, so suddenly all of his matches are better than this one because of it? John Cena was getting a louder, more passionate reaction than either guy and you and Dave constantly shit on him for how bad he is. But if you go up to the average fan on the street, again, that's not going to be the typical response you get. So what's the difference? Why, when it's brought up how someone like Cena is good is it brought up how horrible he is in the ring? Why are Angle and Michaels somehow above that criticism? If you're going to make the argument just about being over, then you're opening quite the can of worms. And that's fine. But it's also inconsistent.

  18. I don't think so. Prolific photographer but I don't think the magazines he ran were anything of note and he's best known as the guy who published a bunch of coffee table books that were quickly remaindered.
  19. Did he "share" a WWE post or just C&P something? If the latter...seriously dude? WTF?
  20. He was considered a great working high flyer (Blassie felt he was even better than Edouard Carpentier) before he got the WWWF Champion gig. He changed his style completely when Vince Sr. brought him in.

  23. I'm thinking "Team Wiggum" They also had a NJPW TV match in 1979. One sits in the corner to wait for the tag because neither will fit on the apron.
  24. The Dale Martin version of British wrestling was not about big houses. It was about getting as many wrestlers as possible over as TV stars so they could promote as many house shows as possible each night pushing that TV wrestling stars would be appearing. Yeah, they ran a handful of super shows at Wembley Arena but there was no reason for them to do so regularly.
  25. IIRC that may not be the whole thing, but yes, it's legit. It's the one issue of John Clark's "Wrestling Flyer" newsletter that I have and he was best known for his interviews with name wrestlers, which some people thought were better than the Torch Talks. It's certainly interesting to read and seemingly backs up Bret Hart's insistence that Kerry was a much different guy when he was clean and not the idiot he came off as while wasted. The problem was that he was constantly wasted.
