Sounds good . Did you pick up the Crockett book covering 77-80?
-
Meltzer seemed real impressed with the Flair/Steamboat clips, along with Johnny Valentine. He said Jim Crockett came across as the star of the doc. Even though he lost some cred when he said after JCP sold he had nothing to do with wrestling. He also points out the doc destroys the myth of the bookkeeper was over his head and didn't give them enough notice of the money problems.

I ordered mine today. On his podcast Meltzer called it a must have.

Reggie White was a stud as a football player. He loved his wrestling. He shows up on Memphis, WWF, and WCW television.
-
Also the WWf was centered around characters, while the NWA was more wrestling focused. While both groups had both I believe the WWf was centered on characters and the moment, while the NWA was more focused on wrestling though they had their share of characters.

I might have been a little harsh in the flash and awe comment, but for the most part if you weren't pushed as important in the WWF the fans didn't care about them, and it was hard for people to get a reaction from the crowd.
-
I think WCW you were trained to like good wrestling . People like Brad Armstrong, and Tim Horner could get over and get a reaction because the audience gave a shit about the match in front of them. Look at the Horner/Horowitz from the WWF set. The audience didn't give 2 shits about it. The WWF audience was trained to be a fan of the moment, like Hogan posing. WWF fans were more flash and awe type of fans.

Good opening show. I thought the draw smoked the rematch. This is a little blurb I wrote about the matches in the microscope. To me they have had good to great matches from every match I have seen except the March of 79 match coming off the amazing 60 minute match . I didn't hate the rematch it just didn't resonate with me like all the others. They were working front face locks which might be the hardest position in the world to work a match around. Also about Dean Ho, he was a mentor to Steamboat in Florida. They drove together and Dean Ho helped him work the karate into his gimmick. Plus according to Steamer Ho's wife was a tremendous cook.

Thanks. I wasn't sure about my timeline.

He also worked a WCCW show once I thought. It doesn't change your point or anything.

The main Indy in Austin ACW usually draws between 125-350 people.

The SMW talk was interesting. They did draw some decent houses behind the Rock N Roll Express and some special attractions. It is also true that SMW drew more in certain cities more than WCW. I would never contend it might have been the # 2 promotion for a small time. I will say from working on the SMW project with a few others I saw a lot of their house shows . From 93-94 they were putting on the best houseshows in the states from top to bottom. For 92 WCW was. The WCW shows I saw in Houston were good , but not as good as SMW. The WWF shows in Houston from 92-95 really lacked depth.

I should have worded the talking point that Luger seemed comfortable working with the younger talent. Still it's an interesting idea to look at.

Hey guys really great show. I thought I'd chime in with some background. I think at the Iron Man they had Luger go over Sting to set up a future opponent for Sting when he got the belt off Flair. Though everything blew up in their face with the injury. With the Luger leaving WCW in 92. I think they let him out of his contract early so he could join the WBF. He wasn't allowed to wrestle for the remainder of his contract. He ends up injured via the motorcycle accident re cooperates. His contract expires, and he shows up in the WWF. The Johnny B Badd title change is confusing. Luger ends up with the belt cause Badd leaves for the WWF. Bischoff says something to the effect that Badd couldn't hang where the big boys play, and instead is afraid to face Luger. Now the talking point of him liking to work with the young talent is an interesting one. It's a point I never really thought about because you'd always here what a prick he was. Though you did hear back in the Horseman days that Tully, and Arn worked with him a lot. Windham I believe said he would help Lex a lot in Florida and showed him the ropes. Dylan mentioned how Luger called the match with Steamer at GAB 89. That was built on mutuall trust. 1st Steamer would call the match on the road, then eventually he'd let Lex call the heat. They'd discuss things in the back. The next step would be Luger not just calling the heat, but when to call it. Eventually, we get to the ppv and Lex is ready to call the whole match except the finish that Steamer called. Luger might have been a prick, but I feel he understands that you need to work and help new talent, just like what happened to him. On a sidenote I love how Musgrave waits in the bushes to ambush Dylan with a pun.

I remember years ago that a Meltzer talking point was that Savage was hit or miss , and didn't work hard every night. I guess he deduced that from Savage using more schtick in matches with the George Steel, HTML, and that ilk.

I listened to the Steve Austin podcast with Scott Hall and Good Helmet sounded a little like Hall vocally.

I'm looking forward to this doc. I'm also curious if Pantas has complete or near complete matches that he shot.
-
I think Slaughter is one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time. I kinda wonder what Bill Watts could have done with him. Evert territory he went to he had matches that were really good, he cut great promos, and drew money in the majority of areas he went to. His promo with Kernoodle, and Valentine where they rip up the little kids drawing is one of my favorite segments ever in the Final Conflict build.
-
I love the fact your New Years Resolution was to watch more wrestling.
-
So Highspots is releasing a doc. on Crockett Promotions. They mention they secured the rights to footage of George Pantas who shot ringside for Crockett. Anyone know what footage he has.
-
Eaton was the king. I thought Koko in Memphis took some huge ones.

Soup the Fulton inclusion kinda suprised me. Have you seen the Windham/ Fulton match from the Main Event 88 show. Last time I saw it I really liked it. Windham has always been a stud at doing the underdog match. We've seen it with Scorp and Regal. I'd put the Fulton match right behind those.

How about Hansen vs Colon from August of 86. Iron Sheik vs Slaughter boot camp match.
-
Also in regards to the Tully/ Garvin match with Garvin as champ I believe was taped for UWF.
