I found the side discussions (Monterrey wrestling, IWRG, etc.) more interesting than the candidate talk itself. Not anybody's fault, really. At this point hearing about Cien Caras or Villano III's candidacy excites me as much as hearing again about that great time when DX took a tank to Nitro and changed the business. These guys (and a few others on the ballot) should be in, and it's head scratching that they are not. I'm sure that people who haven't heard the arguments before really loved it as it was a very informative show. You should bring these guys in the future to do a themed show (lucha indies, AAA, UWA, or anything else).

To me it was always odd that Edge was praised for having cool moves while Kanyon and Nova were laughing stocks. -
I'd vote for Hugo and Chicky. I was completely sure that Perez had been on the ballot before, but I guess not... and I know why you are saying so, but I don't see the point of putting the Sheepherders on the ballot. They are not exceptionally strong on any of the criteria and at the end of the day for most people they are the Bushwhackers, one of the most embarrassing teams of the era. I love los Pastores and had they been in their physical prime during the ECW/Attitude era we'd be looking at them very differently as there would be more footage available. Funny enough, I don't know if they would have been as good as they actually were in the 80s. Now, all of that being said: can you imagine how insane Los Pastores vs. Villano IV and V, and Los Pastores vs. Brazo de Oro and Brazo de Plata in 1984 at El Toreo must have been? It's criminal that we only have a couple dozen hours on tape from that promotion's entire decade.

Wasn't it more that he was carefully protected to as to make sure he didn't show that side? Could be, my memory for this kind of stuff isn't all that great and he could have been a great wrestling promo. The thing that made Takada stand out with the general public, and in particular the ladies, is that in a suit he looked like a movie star (a real movie star, not the wrestling definition of a movie star) but he'd often say dumb shit to the press that made him look like a fool. Best example I can come up with is the way David Beckham used to be (he has now been coached on how to speak).

Have you seen how he looks now? Still looks like a complete douche.

This is a perfect comment for the deceased "comments that do not warrant a thread" topic, however I guess it also fits in here. I was watching some Euro catch and those of you on youtube already know how this works: you watch a match then click on another link then on another one and you end up watching the weirdest stuff. I clicked on Flesh Gordon vs Dick Murdoch from FEC/EWF in the early 90s. Flesh Gordon looked ridiculous and wrestles like shit so I was curious to see what could Dick Murdoch do with him. Well, it was a fake Dick Murdoch so not much. Then Gordon comes out with two chicks and they have their tits out and are happily dancing around. WTF France.

A lot of those wrestlers got in by vote, so most people outside of here and a couple other boards wouldn't really consider them controversial. Of course there's Benoit, but two very controversial names a decade ago were automatic 1996 inductees Bert Assirati (a lot of his claims may have been fiction) and Jackie Fargo (considered "too regional" by some). -

To be fair it' was him that convinced executives that he should be paid for the programming. Others weren't able to do so or didn't think about it. I would never vote for Bischoff as eventually his negatives outweigh the positives by quite a wide margin. -
Wanz vs Bull Power (Vader) had some fun HOSS brawls. I haven't seen them in a decade but the Fit Finlay matches with Tony St. Clair (the Irish street fights and the chain match) were pretty good. I think some people on this board (people who have seen a lot more than I have) aren't as high on Steve Wright but I always enjoyed him vs Finlay.

I think that he was nursing injuries for a couple of years in the late 80s (knee, I believe). The official version is that he was on a "sabbatical". The joke when Fiera, Mocho Cota or Sangre Chicana were absent is that they most likely were in jail... and most of the time you would have been right.

goc's upload of the Hansen/Colon feud is a great start. Matt - are there any online newspaper resources? I'm curious.

Can't help you much with the history part - I remember seeing catch websites in the past in German, though. There's an excellent channel on youtube with plenty of German and Austrian catch (sergje1): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQffrK1qD9fFSLINCEoQ_aA Today he uploaded Axel Dieter matches vs. Adrian Street (!) and Chris Colt (!!!).

Pre-Karadagian is basically the Zbyszko-era. I'm not sure if Karadagian was in Argentina prior to his 1949 US run. Wolf debuted in Mexico in 1945. So there is only a slim chance that it wouldn't have been Karadagian-era. Though I do wonder when and how the transition to Pfeferesque and maybe even worse gimmicks came to be. Karadagian debuted sometime in the early 40s but the Titanes concept didn't start until the early 60s. In between the early Karol Nowina days and Titanes there was the Luna Park promotion. I don't know much about Argentinean wrestling but Mexican wrestlers often toured Latin American countries for, legend says, big money. Panama, Argentina and Guatemala were the three biggest. If what Ruvinskis says is true (I don't even know, but it's a story he often told) it may have happened during that period. This is only speculation as information from that era is hard to come by. Ruvinskis was one of the few that would remark how wrestling was as much "entertainment" as it was "sport".

This could be crazy old wrestler speak but Wolf Ruvinskis always claimed drawing great crowds and reactions against "El Hombre Invisible" in pre-Karadagian Argentina.

The joke at the time was that the prize for winning the RINGS King of Kings tournament was a contract with PRIDE. -
Observer HOF prediction/ballot question thread

Here’s an excerpt from the email that Dave sends with the rules: “The criteria for the Hall of Fame is a combination of drawing power, being a great in-ring performer or excelling in ones field in pro wrestling, as well as having historical significance in a positive manner.” Being (arguably) the best worker ever at a particular style is a workrate argument, not a historical significance argument. “Having historical significance” can be interpreted many different ways but to me these arguments need to be based on being a creator of a style, or a key component in the change, furthering or evolution of an already existing one. It also needs to be influence on a major league level. If it’s indy level influence it needs to be a complete game changer at the indy level that eventually impacted the major leagues. Things like somebody’s moves being copied by a few peers, or a supporting player being one of the best workers at one style, should almost never be part of a historical significance argument. FWIW: I voted in the past for Han as a unique workrate candidate and a good draw, but I don't see the historical significance there either. -

John, don't be so quick to forget the true catalyst of the change.... -
Hornswoggle suspended for 30 days for violating the wellness policy. The last suspension was over two years ago and it was Ricardo Rodriguez. OK...

Kris, was that you yelling randomly at your dog (or something) twice during the show? It wasn't Boricua because he was talking. I loved the explanation on some of the classic angles that I didn't know (like the TNT MYSTERIOUS ORIENTAL NERVE HOLD). I love old school angles but I know that stuff won't work in 2015 so you can't copy it. You could, however, borrow the concept and apply it in a modern way (an MMA hold, for instance). Shows like this one really remind you how sterile wrestling is nowadays pretty much everywhere in the world.

To be fair in my case a lot of the WWE Network Firefox issues also tend to happen with NWA Classics, though not NJPW World. I use a different lightweight browser with no plugins or add ons installed just to watch those services and both usually work great. That being said, get NWA Classics, it's worth every penny.

Here’s my ballot. I FOLLOWED WRESTLING IN MEXICO CANDIDATES Brazo de Oro & Brazo de Plata & El Brazo Cien Caras Karloff Lagarde Blue Panther Huracan Ramirez El Signo & El Texano & Negro Navarro Villano III I FOLLOWED WRESTLING IN AUSTRALIA/PACIFIC ISLANDS/CARIBBEAN/AFRICA CANDIDATES Carlos Colon As usual, I have decided not to vote in the US or Japan groups and for the first time in years I am not voting in Europe as I’m part of the problem in that region. I voted for Colon because he may be the strongest person on the ballot but all these guys are stuck in that weird category. That sucks for them. I don’t like voting for people who still have a few relevant years left and for different reasons I haven’t considered Perro Aguayo Jr. but I may do so in the future. -
Grand jury investigating Jimmy Snuka's role in Nancy Argentino's death
pantherwagner replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
Fuck these people. The guy beat up his girlfriend several times, until he beat her to death. Every three days of so, a woman dies because she gets beatten to death. This is bullshit. Fuck these people and fuck Snuka. Can't blame the grandchildren because they don't know any better. They are kids that will believe whatever story the family told them. As for the rest of the family, fuck them and fuck the people that have donated money. It's also entirely possible that they just signed the grandkids'names to it. The stuff about the legal issues reads like it was written by an adult as a careful dodge. Oh, absolutely, I'm pretty sure the children don't know anything about it, just were told to put on some Superfly t-shirts, look cute and smiley and have a picture taken to help grandpa collect some money because he's very sick.
