I'm not sure what you did, but you broke the formatting of the board and made every post on this page italicized. Pretty sure it's khawk who is breaking the board.

I watched this but I was surprised about Cutie Suzuki and Mayumi Ozaki coming out on the match after that one. I forgot about their cup of coffee in WCW. Almost as surprised as when I flicked through WrestleWar 1991 and I saw the LLPW chicks coming out. I had forgotten about that one too. I wish the Eddie Guerrero dark match somehow was on tape, though. I also watched some World Class. Two Al Madril matches and that's two more Al Madril matches that I had planned on watching for the remainder of my life. I think it's awesome that The Magic Dragon is from MACAU and Checkmate is from THE ISLE OF MAN, UK.

FWIW episode 1 has never been there since I signed up (yesterday).

Could a modern era Japanese ace make it in WWE?
pantherwagner replied to Fantastic's topic in Pro Wrestling
I don't know if I'd call him successful, but the one that made the most money for himself has got to be Funaki. I don't think that the WWE has matured enough to be able to have a Japanese wrestler that isn't a Mysterious Oriental. -
I found a service (www.unblock-us.com , free trial for a week too) that only requires a DNS change so I could set it up on my Apple TV without speed/performance loss.
-
So it is geoblocked? I have my own proxy but it's slow and capped at 50 GB/month (so using it on my router settings is something I don't want to do). I read somewhere that you only needed it to sign up. I will wait for the UK version to be released late in the year ... unless they somehow decide to put the entire WCW Saturday Night run there. WWF Superstars may actually do the trick too though.

If you sign up from Europe for this, can you use it on your PS3 or Apple TV or do you have to use it with your laptop using a US proxy?

The Fighting Spirit Magazine pimping thread
pantherwagner replied to Bix's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Met Brian a few years ago at a UFC lunch and who knows how after touching 30 different subjects we ended up talking about Kyoko Inoue and Manami Toyota while everybody else in that table was staring at us wide eyed and nodding. Good guy, if he didn't work 300 hours a week he'd be a great fit for this board. I will give the next two issues a shot. What is your article about?- 7 replies

It was a very enjoyable show. John's command of Vince-speak was astonishing. That's a huge reason why he is the man.

The Jim Cornette Experience
pantherwagner replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Publications and Podcasts
The ones I have listened to are 30-40 minutes so they are perfect to listen to during a commute to work. Alice is a terrible host in general but she's a terrible fit for this one. She knows little about wrestling in general and pretty much nothing about pre-Attitude era stuff so she is there to read questions and not much more. Then again I'm not sure MSL would be better since he'd somehow find a way to make the show about him. IMO Cornette would benefit from having somebody to bounce ideas back and forth with. The shows themselves are fun but after a few Cornette shows you end up with a lot of redundancy in his rants. -

Favourite & Least-favourite pro-wrestling arena
pantherwagner replied to El-P's topic in Pro Wrestling
It's in a terrible part of town but I really like the ambiance at Arena Naucalpan. It's somewhat rowdy but more family oriented than Arena Coliseo, also at Coliseo you feel like you are at a chicken cage. -
The problem wasn't that there were unread posts. Those were fine as I had not logged in for a few days. Their unread status just vanished seems like.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

Not sure this is an answer you'd be looking for but the most obvious female commentator would be Jaguar Yokota. Beauty Pair era AJW used a formula with their own commentator (whose name I can't recall at the moment) and a rotating cast, usually featuring a male comedian and a female singler/idol/actress. -
Sorry if somebody has already reported this. I had five pages of new/unread posts but after page 3 I get "Sorry, no new content found". Neither pages 4 or 5 (number buttons) or "next" work. On further review I went to page 1 again and it looks like it forgot all the content I had not read. I am using Firefox on OSX Mavericks.

At one point when I was 12 years old I knew all American and Mexican wrestling was a charade but for a couple of months I was sure that New Japan Pro Wrestling was all for real. I never thought this myself but many of my friends in Mexico suspected that everything was fake except for mask vs. mask matches and those were shoots.

The New and Improved Figure 4 Weekly, featuring ME!
pantherwagner replied to Bix's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Congratulations. That is fantastic. When I met Bryan in Vegas about a year ago I suggested that he'd add a third person into the mix. Never thought about you being that person, even if it makes perfect sense. I will have to start reading the newsletter again. -

And not because there are some videos out there of her going into gang-bangs with wrestlers look-alike ? It's Japan. If anything, that would make her a more popular teacher. Pretty sure that with her weirdo look and the pro wrestling past she could make pretty decent money there as a hostess. -
Well, I could be being naive, but I do believe the WWE, at least on this instance. It's not Cena and it's not Wrestlemania. They have Batista coming back for the Rumble. They probably don't see it as the end of the world. I just can't see them risking anything now that they are trying to up the brand to double their rights fees and launch the network. Last thing they need now is a round of bad publicity.

That's tremendous, as living in Spain I listened to a lot of Italo-dance back in the 80s. Hey it was the rage then. The first time that I ever saw early 80s AJW I'm pretty sure was from a recording I got from a guy in Italy. Well either that or Pro Wrestling This Week's "Best Of" tapes from PWI, I'm not sure.

Yeah, you keep telling yourself that. Just like Mysterio pissed hot two months later, right? There's a difference between a concussion and a piss test Yeah, absolutely no way they are going to risk Bryan working concussed nowadays with all the stuff going on with NFL's settlements. Bryan's alleged concussion history has already been discussed here lately. If he were to have problems later in life this could be an incident that 10 or 15 or 20 years down the line him or his family could point out and cash in a huge settlement. If they want to have Bryan winning the main event at Mania they will find a way to do so even if he's not in the Rumble.

Dave himself has somewhat admitted so, and when somebody points out to him "I just watched XXX vs XXX from 199X and I don't think it's five stars at all" he often goes back to the point that maybe he wouldn't rate it as five stars today but he doesn't believe in revisionism and that a certain match is to be enjoyed at the time in a certain context. And at that time, he thought it was five stars, and that's what matters (according to him, of course). Another way to measure the "Meltzer 5 star rating" not meaning what it used to are DVD sales. I believe it was Sapolsky who once said that whenever Dave rated a match as five stars DVD sales and pre-orders would go through the roof but at one point it stopped mattering as much (and that was before today's landscape with live iPPVs, youtube, pirate streams, etc.).

Good stuff OJ, I never thought much of Kai until I started getting the Ginetty tapes and saw her stuff with Chigusa. Her early 80s stuff is pretty good too. The majority of that stuff is from Ginetty's 70's/80's AJW comp set (a little might be from Lynch too) and that's just how it was labled originally on there I can take the blame for that, I tried to catalog all of that almost a decade ago (when there were less online resources) and often I had to take a guess, many of them will surely be wrong. Also, is there any wrestling show theme even remotely close to being as awesome as the AJW theme?
