My first feeling was that it was either done because he pissed Vince off or it was Cosby-level bad. Firing him from the show and scrubbing him from the website before putting out a statement (which they eventually did, that read rather rote) really felt to me more spiteful than panicked. What he said was pretty bad, but I and a lot of other people seem to look at it for what it is. Something said in private, as opposed to taking that position before any kind of public. Warrior did exactly that and he was primed to be a spokesperson for the company just before he died, btw. And the company is rightly getting knocked for doing this (as well as their obvious racial stereotypes, past and present) in such a swift manner not befitting the toll of the man's own blood, sweat and tears shed for their profit. His apology to People seemed pretty sincere to me, no backtracking away or "sorry if you were offended". I believe he'll be able to find a way to redeem himself again, just not soon. And whether it's with the WWE is certainly up in the air right now, but if they have any modicum of respect for what has been done for them they'll welcome him back eventually.

Linda McMahon for Senate catch-all thread

I wonder if he's going to pop up on WWE TV sometime between now and next November. -

Did he ever work Verne?

Rest In Power, Dream. I didn't grow up watching him work, but his voice was a mainstay in my life thanks to his time announcing and occasionally getting in the ring in WCW. He, Tony Schiovane and Bobby Heenan were pretty funny sometimes in the booth, but could get over what was happening when it would get serious as well. Far from a perfect announcing team, but it fit what they were doing.

Memories from the video rental store
flyonthewall2983 replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Pro Wrestling
We had two in town, and that's where I got my education when it came to 80's-early 90's WWF. There was one in the next town over that had an even bigger library of stuff (all in the Action/Adventure section), even including some WCW which you almost never found at the stores in my local shops. -

[1992-11-07-WWF-Superstars] Music Video: Bret Hart

What it cost them to get the Petty song was probably the same as WCW's budget for that entire month.- 18 replies

I could see Fritz nixing the idea because it would go strongly against the image he had going in Texas at the time. I'm inclined to believe Funk about his Stallone connection though. Weren't he and Dibiase and a few others in that wrestling movie he did, the title of which escapes me at the moment.

[1990-08-27-WWF-Summerslam] Mr Perfect vs Kerry Von Erich
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
Eerie coincidence that this match, probably Kerry's high-water mark in the WWF, took place the same day fellow Texan Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a helicopter crash. -

I read that basically Syfy is aiming more to compete with FX and HBO as far as prestige programming, but within the genres they specialize in. They probably figure (and rightly so) that WWE wouldn't fit in there, plus USA is becoming home to more WWE product than ever now so why not. Hopefully what this ultimately does is gets Raw back down to 2 hours again.

Didn't he say he'd be watching 32 from home?

I recently watched the Classic Albums episode on Def Leppard's Hysteria. I'm rephrasing this a little, but there's a part where the singer is recalling something the producer said about how anything sounding too "busy" musically will just be reduced to noise in the kind of big arenas they were playing in. To me that's the difference between where the crowd was during the Steamboat/Savage match and the Hogan/Andre match. I think a good deal of the crowd was invested in Savage/Steamboat of course, but the tit-for-tat between the two of them didn't feel as conducive to such a large crowd compared to the larger-than-life nature of Hogan/Andre.

Going over the comments on reddit right now. Is 200 grand over 9 months really low for a charity they publicize?

Great American Bash - The Missing Years
flyonthewall2983 replied to kayfabe1984's topic in Pro Wrestling
Yes, but what would you add to or change on those cards to make them PPV worthy? Without watching them on the Network I can't give specifics now, but for at least the 93 show hype the hell out of Flair's in-ring return. -

Great American Bash - The Missing Years
flyonthewall2983 replied to kayfabe1984's topic in Pro Wrestling
Clash of the Champions had shows in June those years. I'd say pretty much both of those, tweaked up a little more for the PPV audience. -
1,000 hours of wrestling content? Where was that in the release?

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I remember hearing that, I just wondered if there was more to it than that. -
Just a suggestion, but I think it would be a good idea in the Pro Wrestling thread to just have one thread for major events like WM instead of several which could make things confusing to some.
