If you told me once WCW was bought out that he'd be a top guy and main event WrestleMania I probably would have laughed in your face. I knew how good he was in the ring, and that he probably would have a career once he came but never expected that he would get as far as he did. How he grounded his style was quite the transformation, but he was no less exciting to watch.

Radiolab: The Montreal Screwjob
flyonthewall2983 replied to Grimmas's topic in Publications and Podcasts
There was a laziness to the intricacies of wrestling during the Benoit thing that if applied to any other big story like that would have gotten people fired. -
I'm wondering honestly why Haku hasn't been inducted.

Mixed feelings on that one. Matt's right, but with me it's more who isn't in sometimes. This case being one of them. Demolition would have been a better choice. The glaring omission as far as tag teams now are the Bulldogs.

Jerry Lawler - Any Outside of the Ring Shadiness?
flyonthewall2983 replied to Smack2k's topic in Pro Wrestling
I'm just wondering how Tate managed to run a strip club, a drug empire and managed to be a cop at the same time. -
Hasn't Austin claimed lately that he's in good ring shape?

There's also all the straight-up racist flyers he would paint for his Memphis shows. -
[1995-09-04-WCW-Nitro] Interview: Hulk Hogan
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in September 1995
I guess the modern equivalent now would be Daniel Bryan hawking health food, which wouldn't be too bad an idea. If I ever visit that place I'll do my best to find out where this was and see what it is now.- 8 replies

[1995-09-11-WCW-Nitro] Ric Flair and Lex Luger
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in September 1995
It seems this segment was designed more to get Luger airtime, even if it's without any context. It's too bad they just didn't reform the Horsemen right there and then. Flair flashing the fingers and "the.symbol.of.excellence" was a nice touch.- 6 replies

The "tension" between Mongo and Heenan was the worst part of it for me. McMichael's insults are all the same, and Heenan doesn't have many smart comebacks like he would have in the WWF. It's no secret he didn't like working there now and stuff like this is easy to see why. For some reason I thought Flair/Sting was the first match. This is nowhere near Liger/Pillman in '92 as Brian is showing serious rust and wear and tear from his injuries now. The handshake at the end surprised me, especially without the sneak attack later that would be so commonplace in both companies.

[1995-09-11-WCW-Nitro] Hulk Hogan vs Lex Luger
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in September 1995
Luger as the ultimate tweener during this time was an interesting experiment, but it's good that they would do away with that and make him a total babyface during the NWO run. The match with Hogan was good, though it felt like a regular TV match of the time and not what would become standard eventually during the MNW.- 6 replies

[1995-09-11-WWF-Raw] Shawn Michaels vs Sid
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in September 1995
I know Dibiase didn't get very over as a heel manager but I liked that he wore real suits during this time instead of the previous flashy outfits the MDM wore. -
Nash said they spent hours and hours trying to get this right, I think something to do with difficulty getting shots from the helicopter. The song is terrible, everything looks too blurry and yet they spent a small fortune trying to make it. I know they were hyping Goldust around this time, but to see his face at the end with the logo flashing across seemed a little odd to me.

[1995-09-11-WWF-Raw] Davey Boy Smith vs Razor Ramon
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in September 1995
Not funny at all to me. It wasn't a particularly engaging interview to begin with and Jerry coming in and taking potshots left and right seemed very attention-grabbing. Heenan would do the same thing but a bit more economical on delivery so you wouldn't lose your total attention from the interview. I think the word "pooper scooper" is used about 5 times between Lawler and McMahon during this match. The cutesy way the announcers would talk sometimes was pretty grating. -
Austin by himself could sell it out. Away for 13 years, back for one big match (Rock?).

[1995-09-04-WCW-Nitro] Ric Flair vs Sting
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in September 1995
Found it interesting that the camera caught Flair patting Sting's thigh so he could muscle out of the Figure-Four and do the yell. JJ Dillon I think said that all the Horseman had to prompt him to get his pop from the crowd.- 7 replies
