  1. Late to the party, but add me to the list of those really into the old stuff during my childhood years. The Beatles, some 15 to 20 years after they broke up, were something I enjoyed just as much as VideoHits on CBC. Cartoons? Watched The Mighty Hercules, Rocky And Bullwinkle and AstroBoy just as much as Masters Of The Universe and Transformers. Other TV? Full House and Family Matters actually weren't as funny to me as a show like Welcome Back Kotter. Sports and wrestling were different, in that they didn't have the historical pieces on TV like they do today, although I started learning more when Pro Wrestling Plus showed some old stuff. Needless to say, though, I was a growing history nerd from early on.

I missed the show last night, but read the results, and noticed AJ's team won a six Diva tag. Can't believe I'm asking this, but in any way was AJ made to look bad, or was there anything the commentators made reference to regarding the news on Sunday, etc.?
  3. No...except for maybe Matt's suggestion.

What else did he pick? So far just that, Fandango and Punk. He takes AJ too.

Dolphins1925 says Orton is winning tonight...hrmph!
  8. I think it was September when Corny did an interview, stating he's lightened up to the point where he admitted that it would be cool to be inducted with the Midnight Express in the WWE HOF, what with Mania being in New Orleans. Wish I could remember who it was with. Something like the SMW article may have been an ice-breaker.
  9. I'm basically 1980s Flair on Christmas. We got a Christmas breakfast to attend at one end of the region with a pretty large audience (Crockett) and then at the other end of the city a smaller, but effective and vocal audience does dinner (Florida). These days, WrestleMania is Christmas Eve. That's actually the huge draw, as the party can hit something like 40 people. The day after is like if they had Axxess after Mania, as opposed to before. Easter is like Monday Night Raw, in a way. Back in the day, Raw wasn't the prime show. Same with Easter, as we never made it a big deal. It's actually increased in drawing power over time, both of them. On the other hand, New Year's Eve has kinda become Survivor Series. Big deal for me before, not so much now.
  10. Thanks for posting the results. I didn't participate (I'm still enough of a learner that I doubt I'd qualify) but I did lurk and was aware of the project and was definitely interested in what the final tally would be. A couple things stick out: * 171 - I know it's only two ballots, but how the heck did that happen (the two of them tied for the same spot)? * Sputnik Monroe is listed twice in the final tally. I'm assuming one is a misspell, but there weren't two of them, no?
  11. Race had no earthly idea why WCW let HHH go. He felt that HHH was one of the greatest young pieces of talent and WCW let him go because they had no spot for him? It was absolutely stupid.
  12. "The reason I talk so much old school wrestling is any time I attempted sports entertainment, it made McMahon look like a genius. Not with his good stuff, mind you, I mean stuff like TL Hopper and Phantasio. That stuff was high art compared to mine!"
  13. Quit blaming "you Americans", it's happening elsewhere too: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-25156917 The Black Friday is starting up in Canada too, although pretty tame in comparison. Honestly, I think that's more to do with things like taxes and employee wages having an affect on prices, plus it's really in its initial stages, rather than human behaviour up here (the real madness for us happens on Boxing Day - December 26th). At least no one's dead this year -- yet.
  14. This seems bizarre compared to previous subjects of Breaking Kayfabe. Sunny. Sean Waltman. Marty Jannetty. What's Jim going to be "forthcoming" and "honest" about? Is his love of fast food worse than we imagined? A cardiac arrest moment we didn't know about after dealing with Russo? Did he sleep with Baby Doll one night to undesirable results? This could be entertaining, but given what we know Jim for, it just feels out of place compared to the other subjects.
  15. I'm in Canada, so I have my doubts it would be available right away. I would take the same approach Loss would though. Before you even get to how receptive the cable/satellite companies would be, how involved/difficult/time consuming is the process for CRTC approval? That's a rhetorical question, I'm assuming?

  17. Yeah, the story is getting good mainstream media coverage up here. Reminds me of when Carpentier and Kowalski passed.
  18. Sad day. One of the best to come from here in the Great White North.

Part of me was thinking that they were smartening up and turn AJ face, but I'm not holding my breath. Actually, between Vickie's "fainting" and JBL's commentary, the segment felt more like a shot at AJ more than anything. RAW gave us this great, and truthful, flub: HHH: "Who do you think you're talking to?" Orton: "The face of the WWE!"

Well, if they're gonna keep Miz, best have him as heel.
  21. Depends. Good, natural crowd reaction (fans reacting to an angle/match, being into it) means a lot. I suspect that's what most people mean here. Jerkoff crowd reaction. Hate those.

It would be funny if suit-and-tie corporate Kane backfires on HHH and Steph, as due to having his head caved in by the Wyatts at SummerSlam, Kane seeing himself in a suit and tie automatically makes him think he's off to a libertarian convention and walks away reciting what he's going to talk to Ron Paul about, leaving HHH and Steph flabbergasted. Speaking of HHH and Steph having moods where they're not in control of things, I only caught the main event angle (will have to track down the six-man later, heard rave reviews for it here and elsewhere), and I gotta say, at least Big Show has some sort of chemistry with HHH and Steph that he came off looking real good. Of course, as insinuated, HHH and Steph at least showed some ass in the angle (with the lawsuit and all), which was likely something needed in the Daniel Bryan storyline, but Show has the charisma to make people care.
  23. The most enjoyable, upsetting, exciting, frustrating, surrealistic and funny thread I've ever seen. Take a bow, Jerome, and thanks for suffering for our enjoyment, and also for some great writing!
  24. Someone booking a parody-invasion by TNA (blatantly copying the events of 2001, right from the last Nitro onward) is more interesting to me than the real thing happening. As for the tape library, I agree with those that Vince would want as much footage of wrestling as possible, probably just for the odd match or angle involving guys who were in WWE for at lease a good amount of their careers. I can only imagine that TNA may get a "Self Destruction Of The Ultimate Warrior" type presentation if they got a documentary release. They might say, however, "Their Knockouts were good, but were paid in food stamps" or something like that.
  25. Bob Backlund is the thread killer (well, except for Bruno). Will be with Corki 40 years as of next year.
