  1. If they are that stupid, someone else alre.ady convinced them
  2. Does it count as "working" if you give someone six million dollars?
  3. I've wondered about this too. Either she's actually good at her job OR her job is of such low importance and influence that it doesn't matter either way. As low level as it is, I kinda think it is her being good at her job. I have no idea if that is the case, but it isnt out of the realm of possibility. And I want it to be true because it is hilarious, and at this rate she might end up the last one standing. She has had decades practice at playing the straight person for megalomaniac.
  4. I think there are a few elements in play along with that. But I think almost all drug testing programs come down to control. Companies wanting to show they are in charge by making people piss in front of a stranger. Though at least pro wrestler makes more sense for a drug test than a guy stocking shelves at Walmart.
  5. Viscera recounted a story of Bret Hart arguing with Vince over banning pot circa 93. Bret said all it would do is make guys lean harder on pills and drink more. Which proved true.
  6. The vacant WWF title.
  7. Flair did not work TV squashes that often.
  8. I've seen it more than once. The leg kicks hurt Andre but he was very drunk and did not seem to give a shit. Also Maeda seemed very hesitant about getting down in the mud with Andre. I don't think Maeda is professional enough to care if Inoki said he could.
  9. That's how I took it. Hogan was basically thinking "I'm pretty sure he's going to play ball but if he decides not to I'm kind of fucked, so I better make sure of it without pissing him off". Dave mentioned how the Maeda deal happened not long before this and how it ruined Andre's rep as someone to fear if he decides to shoot, but it's not like Hulk was a trained shooter. Plus it seemed silly to think a guy like Andre would decided to fuck up the largest show in wrestling history. To me the Maeda deal made him look scarier. He is drunk off his gord, laying on the bottom rope laughing and daring Maeda to try to put a hold on him. I could not help but notice that Maeda did not seem anxious to try. I am a big fan of Super Dave Osborne and he was on Bill Simmons podcast. I discovered Simmons is as clueless about "real" sports as he is about wrestling.
  10. What you described is common in all entertainment and sports. Its not some unique pro wrestling thing.
  11. What wrestling are you watching?
  12. Minus Nikita arguably, they were not shit workers. Sting and Lex were green and Dusty was outright good.
  13. Great in ring but booking is really bad.
  14. I honestly don't think the show will be different. A good thing would be is the video show could use footage in the archives,
  15. Steph did not even know the rumors about Moolah. You think she knows thirty year old British politics?
  16. Where did Rey and Eddy get their starts and where did they become famous? Now on to Mistico in WWE. Beyond Rey and Eddy, workers like Juventud, Psicosis and Super Crazy all did fairly well in WWE. Juvi did get released, but that was more Juvi being a nut. Psicosis was released for personal reasons and Crazy left on his own. What more could WWE have done for Mistico? As it is, I think they did too much. After a year he was becoming actively worse.
  17. I said Kane was able to move in time but was unable to continue because he was pinned down. I would have said Roman angled himself to protect any vital parts.
  18. You are wrong about Rey and Eddy, but that seems more obvious.
  19. The issue is WWE did not force him to change his style. They did everything to work around him and Mistico did not even try to adapt.
  20. I think there is something to that. We watched Kevin Sullivan and Kanemura and he got so invested in Kanemura fighting back after being bloodied. He insisted I find a rematch, which I did find one in Wing. Even in another language, he got who was the good guy and the bad guy. His all time favorite is Kane and he likes Braun Strowman. We watched when Braun dropped the stage on Kane and he was upset about it yet intrigued on how someone could be so strong. Honestly I don't break kayfabe to kids. Whether it is wrestling or Santa. Their parents can do that shit.
  21. I woke up from a nap and Connor was watching a lucha death match with two guys I can't remember. I don't even know how he found it. He really loves the NXT clips on Youtube. That is without prompting from me. Since my taste skew older.
  22. I think this deserves it own thread, pinned at the top of the board. I get just a cynical about pro wrestling as anyone else, but a trip to a local Indy show is always the best way to help me get over myself. Particularly if there are kids there, marking out, and the wrestlers interact with the fans... Everybody on this board (and elsewhere) who is currently stuck in an "everything stinks" phase needs to get out and have an experience like this. We all need to be reminded, from time to time, that wrestling is great and that we love it. The wrestlers loved having Connor at ringside. The heels would antagonize him and people would boo louder. The champion acted like he was going to high five him and pulled his hand away at the last second. Connor ran to me with a full report of what I had just seen. Only scary part of the night for me, was when Connor almost got knocked over by a plancha. He gets really excited and its an intimate building. One thing that threw me was the heels were at intermission selling gimmicks and stuff. Nice as can be, then bell time and its back to kayfabe. Connor and the other kids had no problem though. I asked Connor why he was booing someone who just gave him an autograph. Connor told me "He shouldn't have cheated." One thing I did not add about the show is everyone looked professional. Real wrestling gear and in shape. You could see them on any TV show and they would not look outta place.
  23. I don't know how you can say they screwed Mistico. They gave him every chance to get over. Mistico never put the effort in. His work gave a mentality of he was entitled to success because he was Mistico.
  24. I had lost my internet access shortly before this. But I thought Benoit had to win the Rumble because no one else on TV was being set up for it. Though I thought it was going to be Benoit vs Brock at Mania since that had been the feud off and on since Survivor Series. It really did not make sense to me that he was going to Raw.
  25. I cancelled my subscription when I heard about the donation. That money could have went to helping former talent whose work they use to keep the network running. Boycotting ROH would only hurt ROH. What would be better is going after sponsors who buy ads on Sinclair stations,
