Punk keeps getting more confident as a heel and it shows during this match. Between the promo and the way he sells and bashes the fans, you can see the promise of what's to come. Bambino was alright but this was the punk show. The ref bump is a thing of beauty tho. Punk goes for a piledirver and hit the ref as he picks Bambino up with his feet. The ref sells it great. Reminded me of that famous ref/Bully Ray bump from TNA.

I remember the great FBI/Tajiri and Mikey matches from around this period but I don't remember Mikey teaming with Psicosis. They didn't really work well together but the FBI held this up well riling up the crowd and Tony taking some crazy bumps. Speaking of bumps. that bump through the table had to suck for Sal. He went leg first through it.

[2000-09-17-Monterrey] El Dandy vs Antifaz del Norte (Mask vs Hair)
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in September 2000
This is one of those matches where the blood doesn't actually add much to it. More mask ripping and obvious bladejobs on camera. There is something about old man Dandy that I just enjoy. He's not as good as he was back in the early 90's but he still has a hell of a right hand and can beat a man down. Like a Mexican Bill Dundee. Antifaz is a good local pretty boy and this is before he gets really bloated on steroids. This had a satisfying finish and the crowd liked it so it worked. -
I gotta think that if this New York show is successful, MLW won't be in Orlando for much longer. Apparently, they aren't running another show at GILT till October.

Antifaz/Dandy continue to have a blood feud in Monterrey. They beat each other with tables and chairs and weapons. Antifaz gets his mask ripped and Dandy bleeds. I like the Casas/Zumbido sections the best. Both guys were fast as hell especially doing roll-ups. The match is a little long but still good.

This had a little more urgency than the six-man tag but it was still missing something. I don't know if it's because the rudos are slow or the tecnicos not doing enough flying. I can't help but compare it to the AAA stuff. AAA Mascarita is better than IWRG version and the AAA rudos make the tecnicos look better.

The strike exchange between Satanico and V was Lawler/Dundee like in its brutality. Great visual of Villano's mask being ripped to shreds and he has to hold it up while punching Santanico right in the face. For a five minute segment, this was one of the best of the year. Everyone was beating each other up and the crowd was going crazy. Love the fans hoisting III up on their shoulder and parading him around like he's Perro Aguayo. Awesome stuff.

I think my favorite thing in this match is the Perro/Mascara stuff. Perro never stops going after him and Mascara gets stuff thrown at him and slips on the beer on the floor. The Dandy/Antifaz feud is kicked up a notch with all the blood. Shocker and Parka work some comedy and Panther is good as always. This is what you want out of Monterrey even with the screwy finish. Good match.

Even though he was old and probably shouldn't have been in the ring, Hansen can still throw a hell of a lariat. I thought the Tenyru/Kawada moments in this were good but just way too much Dr. Death for my liking. He was real boring when he wasn't punching guys in the face. Hell Hansen was better in this cause he was used better.

[2000-08-05-IWA-MS-From Hardcore Hell & Back] Bull Pain vs Mitch Page
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in August 2000
Bull threatens Ian's wife and kids before the match and Ian doesn't even come out. I guess he wasn't there or something? THe rain storm added a little to this but still way too long. That finish is really rich coming from IWA and this ends up being another match where the crowd chants bullshit during the finish. That seemed to happen a lot. -
Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
Tim Evans replied to TravJ1979's topic in Pro Wrestling
I guess MLW started putting people under contract after WWN pulled guys like Riddle and Darby? I haven't watched MLW tv but have they aired any Filthy Tom or Jeff Cobb matches? As for guys WWE would be interested in, the guy that immediately comes to mind is Brody King. That guy could be special and seems to be popping up in a lot of indies. -
Dave and Corey no selling the name change and still calling him wolfie from time to time is one of my favorite things about Power Pro. I guess it makes sense that he changed his name since Jamie was never coming in. Short tv match follows and it's kinda sad to see Derrick booked like this.

[2000-08-19-JAPW-Night of the Main Events] Low Ki vs Homicide
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in August 2000
I agree with you guys about this being really good and heated. They beat the hell out of each other. So much so that the crowd eventually gets into it. I liked the spot where Ki punches the chair into Homicides head. They liked it so much they did it twice. The ref was super annoying so I marked out when he got his head kicked in by Ki. The finish with Billy was weak but Ki took the Cop Killah like a champ. Right on the head. Good match. -
Romeo is so sleazy during his entrance but then the bell rings and he becomes regular southern guy. This was a decent match. For guys that feuded for a long time, Taylor and bliss make a good team. The toss into a powerslam was nice. Golden turns more and more into "The one" Billy Gunn everytime I see him.

I have no idea what that beginning segment was but it went over like a fart in church so to speak. The match was pretty bad with Zandig blowing a simple suplex. Apparently this is a lumberjack match with barbwire instead of straps. Just lots of setting up spots and half ass brawling. One of the worst matches of the year.
