[2000-01-04-NJPW-Wrestling World 2000] Genichiro Tenryu vs Kensuke Sasaki
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in January 2000
I can watch Tenyru punch and chop dudes all day. I liked him just sitting on the ropes drunk selling Sasaki's punches and them coming back with his own. That top rope rana to a powerbomb looked scary but they made it work. Fun match but the finish was kinda out of nowhere and anticlimatic.- 31 replies

[2000-01-04-NJPW-Wrestling World 2000] Wild Pegasus vs Hiroyoshi Tenzan
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in January 2000
Interesting match for what I'm guessing is Benoit's last match in New Japan. He just destroys Tenzan with chops. Those ones one the floor were the most brutal. Did they ever stop calling him Wild Pegasus? Good match and nice to see JJ dillon at ringside. -
Is Kikuchi still a junior heavyweight here? He looks bigger than I remember him being in 1993. Agree with everyone else that this was a nothing match but interesting to see where All Japan was after baba died but before NOAH formed. This was pretty much the definition of Misawa sleep walking through a match.

[2000-01-31-WWF-Raw] New Age Outlaws vs Al Snow & Steve Blackman
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in January 2000
This is mostly here for the radicals debut but the match wasn't awful before that. I always get a kick out of Head cheese and the Outlaws are still over even though they are supposed the be heels. JR mentions that the radicals were negotiating with ECW. I wonder how that would have gone? Would we have gotten Benoit vs Justin Credible? -
[2000-01-27-WWF-Smackdown] Edge & Christian vs D-Von & Bubba Ray Dudley
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in January 2000
That promo by Edge and Christian to start was rough. I guess they didn't get good on the mic until they started teaming with Angle? The match was good. It's weird seeing the Dudley's do the "wassup" headbutt while being these women beating heels. That finish through the table had to suck for Edge and christian.- 6 replies

[2000-01-24-WWF-Raw] Rikishi & The Rock vs HHH & The Big Show
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in January 2000
Interesting to see HHH and Show teaming so soon after the title change but Show is a better heel so it works. Crowd wasn't really into this till the Rock hot tag. Match wasn't too bad till the run in city. I really don't need to see Billy Gunn's see through tights again. -
[2000-04-11-FMW] Masato Tanaka & Balls Mahoney vs H & Mr Gannosuke
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
I'm really enjoying heel Masato Tanaka. He's good at it and has some good heel offense. H gets taken out early and Fuyuki takes his place and bleeds a whole bunch. The pop for the Hayabusa return was awesome too. The crowd and the announcers were going nuts. Balls Mahoney is also really good in FMW. Way better than he was in ECW at the time. Fun match. -
[2000-04-09-Michinoku Pro-Super J Cup] Chapparita Asari vs Hiromi Yagi
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
Two of my favorite Joshi discoveries since doing the yearbooks going at it. I enjoyed this for what is was, a short junk food type match. Yagi's armbars continue to amaze and Asari is spunky yet deadly. Especially that finish where she lands on Yagi's face. Fun match. -
[2000-04-07-NJPW-Dome Impact] Shinya Hashimoto vs Naoya Ogawa
Tim Evans replied to Jordan's topic in April 2000
Of the 3 Hash/Ogawa matches I've seen, this was probably the best. Hashimoto takes a beating and goes down swinging. The crowd is red hot for it all and I liked that guys like Inoki and Fujinami were there to make it a big fight feel. With that being said, Ogawa is still god awful. He's so awkward and his fake MMA crap is just bad. I don't know what Inoki was thinking in making this guy champ. No wonder this was a down period in New Japan.- 14 replies

[2000-04-01-Michinoku Pro-Super J Cup] CIMA vs Ricky Marvin
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in April 2000
Ricky Marvin is so crisp with his dives. Especially the first one to the oustide. Short but fun match. Ricky goes for one too many dives and pays for it. -
Corp and Blaze say Fuck a lot and try to get in a fight with fans for the first 25 minutes. I'm guessing this was pre SMV days as it's shot from the balcony with no commentary? Lot of sicks bumps and lots of blood but overall it didn't mean anything. A lot of guys run in who I have no idea who they are and then Ian cuts is usual postmatch promo. Pretty bad.

Boy was the atmosphere around this match very problematic. I'm used to the chants but I'm not used to the announcers actually awknowledging and participating in the chants. It really distracted me from the match although the finish was just stupid.

So this is Chicky Starr and Victor the Bodyguard vs Miguel Perez Jr and Huracan Castillo Jr with Savio Vega as the ref for those that don't know. Chicky and Victor were together for years before Victor died in the mid-2000s. I'm guessing this was for the IWA tag titles. Not much of a match as it's JIP but Victor bleeds a ton. The Boricuas get into it with Savio and Savio channels TNT and blows the mist at the boricua. Hope to see some more IWA as I got into it in 2002 when it started airing on Sunshine Netowrk. IWA was way more popular than WWC at the time and would only get bigger until it bust and WWC was the last one standing.

[2000-04-22-IPW-Crystal River Carnage] Scoot Andrews vs Jet Jaguar
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
Nice to see a IPW match with good camera angles. Not a great match but very Florida indie in the 2000s like with convicted felon Rob Niemi all over the place. -
Interesting match with a lot of different characters. You have the old guard like Tiger Mask and El Samurai, the new guys like Marvin, Suwa, and Makabe and the rest of the guys who are known. Good to see LA Lucha legend Super Boy. Marvin was great but i think the star of the match was Suwa. I've heard of the things he did in wrestling but never seen him before. Such a dick to the audience and even his own partners. He didn't like Ka Shin one bit. Enjoyable match.

[2000-04-07-ARSION] Gran Hamada & Ayako Hamada vs Gran Apache & Mary Apache
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
I didn't realise Mari looked so much like her sister before she had kids. It's kinda eerie. Anyways, This was a fun match. Gran Apache was so fast for a guy his age and so were the ladies. Gran Hamada laughing at Mari and then her schooling him was nice. Ayako was probably the weak link in the match but even she was good and fast. Enjoyed this a lot. -
This wasn't what I was expecting as it's just a series of clipped singles matches. Nothing terribly interesting except for Balls Mahoney playing heel with Tanaka and Tracy Smothers being Tracy smothers. Team ECW turns heel on Kodo at the end. Is this the same Crazy Boy from AAA? I don't think it is but not totally sure.

Pretty clean match between ECW guys. Nice to see Guido as a babyface. He didn't do it much in his career but I thought he always did a good job when he was babyface. Mikey is between clean cut Mikey and satanic Mikey here. Nothing great but a solid match even with Corino at ringside. At first, i thought this was a handicap match.

[2000-04-15-XPW] Chris Candido vs Shane Douglas vs Sabu
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
Shane Douglas's 2000 is weird. He's gone from WCW, goes to XPW and then back to WCW. Candido looks massive here. The wrestling was typical from the two and then Sabu enters the match. Shane keeps avoiding Candido after spending minutes wrestling him for some reason. Sabu loses when he goes face first on the table which had to suck. Shane then cuts a promo where he's not yelling about Dick Flair which is nice. -
Nice to see Derrick in with the champ. Wolfie has some weird red hair. Short but good tv match that ends with interference. Who is the guy with the helmet?

[2000-04-15-FWA] El Hijo del Santo vs Mike Quackenbush
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
I remember hearing so much about this match back in the day but I've never seen it. It mostly lives up to the hype. Santo is Santo and really holds it together. Good mat work and that dive looked nice. Quack was mostly with him with some botches including a botched dive to the oustide. That finish was awful tho. I get why neither was losing but it was still cheap. Not as cheap as the Vince Mcmahon rip off to begin the match. -
Current favorite wrestler to watch: Lightning from WWC. Most of his matches are bloodbaths or brawls. Last fun match you saw: Low Ki vs Mike Mayhem from April 2000 FWA Wrestler you want to see more of: Raul Mendoza and Keith Lee Last live show attended (if applicable/different from last time you answered): NXT tv tapings in May Match you're most looking forward to watching: Tank vs Matt Riddle at SCI Last fun interview/promo you saw: Ray Gonzalez Jr's half english/half spanish promos on WWC tv every week. Last interesting thing you read about wrestling: Brody's recap of the dusty shoot interview on Culture Crossfire Last worthwhile podcast you listened to: Exile on Badstreet with John Mcadam Most fun you've had watching wrestling lately: Tournament of Death Favorite recent post on this board: The match reviews from 2000 Favorite thing about the wrestling landscape in the past three months (if you live in the past, then go with your past three months of time-traveling): I'm a big fan of all the variety in wrestling these days. From the super indies like AAW to the smaller indies like Anarchy and AIW to the international stuff like New Japan and WWC. There hasn't been this much variety since the late-90s boom. I'm not saying it's as big as back then but there is something for everyone.

When you look at a guy like Mike Mayhem during his entrance, you don't expect much. I thought he was pretty good here going toe to toe with Ki. Ki looked great with his moonsaults and that devestating finisher. That looked worse than the missed dive in that CZW match with Ric Blade. Just brutal but awesome. Good match.

[2000-04-15-TWA-Total Impact TV] Shawn Michaels vs Venom
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in April 2000
A very ECW like brawl taking place in Texas. HBK was channeling Bill Watts circa 1986 with not taking many bumps but standing tall and kicking ass. Venom does his best taking punishment and that bump from the stage was nuts. Of course, he gets up in short time and makes it useless but that's whatever. Shawn bleeds a gusher and wins back the company. I'm still surprised this even happened as I thought he was under WWF contract at the time. Poor Shooter Shultz. He just jobbed to that table 3 times. -
The Tazz/Awesome match is legendary. It's funny to see the ECW fans cheer a WWF guy but I guess that feud had been over for a while so it doesn't matter. Awesome entering and leaving through the crowd was a nice touch. Tajiri/Dreamer was alright but Dreamer can't really bump at all around this time. Was his back still screwed up?
