[2000-03-17-CMLL-El Homenaje a Dos Leyendas 2000] Torneo Cibernetico
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in March 2000
I enjoyed this too but probably not as much as you guys. It started a little fast but once some of the filler guys were eliminated, it got really good. Zumbido is the king of these types of matches as he takes a nutty Psicosis bump to the outside. Interesting to see who made it and who is still in the undercards from this match. You got guys like Ultimo Guerrero, Astro Rey Jr, Rencor Latino and Rey Bucanero who became big stars. Then you have Arkangel, Starman, Tigre Blanco and Zumbido who really never made it out of the undercard. Good mix of guys to show thePPVv crowd on a big stage.- 6 replies

[2000-03-21-CMLL] Tony Rivera vs Mr Mexico (Hair vs Hair)
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in March 2000
I like blood in matches but it seems like CMLL has been too reliant on it in 2000 with tecnicos. This match was fine albeit a little short. Mr. Mexico held this together as Tony Rivera was a little green. I don't think you can compare this to TB/Satanico. That match had been built up so well but was disappointing while this match is just mid card fodder in Arena Coliseo. -
The rudos coming out to Sabu's music never not makes me laugh. This match would have sucked without the crowd. I know Arena Mexico crowds usually hate all the big name tecnicos during big shows like Mistico, Shocker and others. But Man do they HATE Tarzan boy. When he's in there with Shocker, the crowd goes Roman on him. Then he tries a dive to the outside and Shocker sandbags him. Shocker does the same thing with Rayo. The Finish was nice but man it made Rayo looks like either a fool or a rudo. Stands there like a dummy when the ref counts 3. Fun match thanks to the crowd and shocker.

Finally, we get to one of the best feuds in AAA in the 00s. For a match that takes place in a rainstorm, this was really good. I can't believe both guys bleed. That seems very dangerous. There are some botches but that helps the match. Oscar's second does a great dive towards the end of the match.

I love the cosagrados so much. Just a bunch of old dudes beating up the younger guys and being rudo as hell. My favorite was Sangre Chicana who was old in 1990 and looks like what you would expect a rudo to look like. This match was fun with the tecnicos doing some flying, la parka doing comedy and Texano blooding up Perro Jr. Yeah the ref stuff is annoying but it's what it is in AAA. Best AAA match I've seen so far this year which isn't saying much.

Words can not do this match justice. For emotion alone, this is one of the greatest matches of all time. Every single move is treated like a finisher and the crowd pops huge for it. Atlantis trademark white mask turns red from the blood. This match lives up to the build and imo is the match that made Atlantis a true star. The post match was like Savage/Warrior WM7 times 1000. Villano's dad unmasks him while women are crying in the crowd. I don't usually do this but *****.

Atlantis, Niebla, Alushie and the Tineblas' as the justice league of tecnicos was a great segment. This was a fun match that you come to expect with CMLL. Rudos carried the tecnicos well and sold all the offense. No big feuds or anything but solid action. Pierroth and Satanico as a team is some badass rudo shit.
-
A rare appearance from IWRG Mr. Niebla and the early days of Hijo de Fantasma. For a lower card feud, this was pretty heated. Lots of blood and dives with little downtime. Mr. Mexico and especially Emilio Charles were vicious. Ringo Mendoza almost kills himself with a dive at the end. Good stuff here after some so-so couple weeks in CMLL.
-
First look at the CMLL minis in 2000. Solid stuff with some great dives. Dragoncito is so fluid at those. The interesting thing to me is all 4 of these guys are still around in the failing CMLL mini's scene these days. Pierrothito hasn't aged, Ramirez is now Pequeno Olimpico, Fierito is Pequeno Violencia and Dragoncito is still dragoncito.

So this seems to be a Russian Roulette type match and that's what it felt like with all the run-ins. Texano runs in and low blows the tecnicos and helps Electro win the match. This sorta reminds me of the beginning of Power Pro wrestling when you had Randy Hales get attacked by Lawler and Hales being all over tv. On a scale between Vince Mcmahon and Randy hales, Pena was closer to Hales. Great mind but just not believable as top tecnico. Just a mess of a match but at least it didn't involve Tiger Steel and had big heat from the crowd.
-
The backstage stuff shocked me actually. I can't remember a time where a match went backstage since this happened. Maybe when the AAA guys invaded Arena Mexico for Paradismo? Pierroth is a total pro here taking a vicious beating and bleeding like he's in IWA Mid south. Mascara plays his role well but this was all about Pierroth.

This was a little too one sided for my liking. Another Internales beat down. They are trying to keep the Satanico/Tarzan feud going but after the disappointing hair match I just don't care about it. I did like the finish though. That was a creative low blow.

I don't think this is accurate. True, there were a bunch of people they liked a whole lot more - Kota Ibushi, Brian Kendrick, etc. - but Perkins was far from hated. It truly was a special time, wasn't it? Now Mauro is gone, the entire division is meaningless, and its first several champions have no momentum whatsoever. As someone who was there live, TJP met with indifference when he started in CWC and then was Drifter style hated when he pinned Kota. He was never liked.
-
This started alright with Alebrije and Cujie bringing the comedy. Then it falls apart after he gets eliminated. This was before Charly Manson's injury so he still had potential. Tiger Steele walks out throwing tortillas and just looks so lost. He attacks everyone including the ref and Antonio Pena. Pena is at his tecnico promoter peak as he gets attacked by Killer and another masked guy. Really bad booking here.

[2000-03-05-AAA-Rey de Reyes] Pentagon vs Oriental (Hair vs Hair)
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in March 2000
I thought this was real bad. Between the clipping, the crowd shots, the awkward weapons shots and Tirantes Jr.'s slow counts a lot went against this. Pentagon in Yellow gear is weird and I loved Oriental's finish. Just lacked the heat of a usual AAA hair match. -
Janela's show was easily the best show of the weekend. I didn't need shitty Excalibur commentary to enjoy it live. Janela doing his best Ric flair vs Broomstick impersonation was at least ****.

What are your thoughts on making Wrestlemania a 2 day event?
Tim Evans replied to rzombie1988's topic in Pro Wrestling
It already is a two night event. Mania on Sunday is for the casuals and Raw after Mania is the Mania from the hardcores. -
Went to 8 shows this weekend. I planned for 9 but the promoter of the Lucha show canceled day of and had a lot of pissed off wrestlers at the building. My non Mania matches of the weekend are Lee/Dijak from Evolve 81, Martin Stone vs Dominic Garnini from Punk Pro, Ethan Case vs Curt Stallion vs Joe Gacy from Punk pro, Janela/Jannetty and the crazy as hell 8 man match at Pancakes and Piledrivers. I'm not sure if anyone of the Punk Pro shows will be uploaded to youtube but they were really fun. Especially night two.

Sitting in the crowd at Raw tonight, I thought they would actually be more annoying than they were. Biggest babyface of the night was probably the guy that was selling beach balls outside. I thought the show was real good. Roman's promo was just epic live. Easily the biggest heel in wrestling since 2010 John Cena. Bullet Club wishes they could get that type of heat. Seeing the Revival on the main roster made my night. Can't way to see them vs the Hardy's. Cruiserweight match was a dud I thought. They had a better match on 205 and I can live without the 5-minute headlock by Neville during the break. Braun/Lesnar confrontation was awesome but not as awesome as Kurt Angle returning. Lost my damn voice when that happened. Good 1 time experience but I don't think I would go to another Raw after Mania.
-
Just got back from the show. So long but so worth it. The Hardy's thing was incredible live I've never heard a crowd like that. Only match I didn't like was the Orton match. More later.

I'm planning on going to at least 5 shows next week. Spring break, Punk Pro wrestling(not a IPPV), CZW, A lucha show with guys like Silver King, Willie mack and Original GRONDA and of course Mania. I think there is something like 64 shows going on in Orlando and the surrounding area between Tuesday and the following Monday. That's insane. Lots of those shows are gonna lose a lot of money but I guess it's worth it given all the talent that's gonna be in the area.
