The US had an economic decline in the 70s and that didn't seem to destroy any wrestling territories. I'm sure houses were down a little in some markets but it was also probably the biggest the NWA was in terms of success.
My go-to is how when World Class was hot, the Sportatorium was packed to the rafters and young me wanted to go there so bad. Didn't matter that it was a piece of shit old barn, the atmosphere was amazing.
What I don't get is that it didn't seem to be doing the usual tailspin we'd see in Dallas and in the AWA. As a fan it was like one day Watts just said "fuck it", sold everything to Crockett and peaced out.
As someone who was a big Freebirds mark as a kid, the Terry Gordy episode hit pretty hard for me. I knew he wasn't the same after the plane incident but seeing how bad it got was a rough watch.
In my mind Becky got to visit the White House and meet Biden and the President of Ireland was a reward for convincingly conveying interest in a feud with Nia.
Yeah I thought it seemed fishy that "reports" about people being unhappy about Rock being allowed to say cuss words. Now I can buy Fox not being happy about it, but anyone who's ever played sports (which most of the people in WWE have) know the star QB is going to be able to get away with shit the punter couldn't.
Not only that, you have to consider pro wrestling's importance to his career. He grew up watching it on TV and that's where he learned that promos are the key to drawing money. He also channeled that into playing the heel role so even the people who didn't like him would pay to see him get beat.
I kind of feel bad for Bayley that her program is at best the 4th most compelling one on the show despite her doing some of her best work. Also because she almost got her nose Jeff Hardy'd by that moonsault by Io.
Jericho is a key factor in AEW existing since he was a name TV execs remembered from WWE. Without him and JR, they probably don't get a TV deal or at least not one near the level they got with TNT/TBS. As such I'm assuming TK is keeping him around as a sign of gratitude since as stated there's fuck all other reason to.
