  1. The top pitcher in the rotation is called the ace, which seems a more direct comparison than the tennis term.
  2. My issue with Roman has always been how he's booked like a square peg in a round hole. He was supposed to be the next great babyface, but everything about the guy screams heel charisma. In any other company in any other era they would have turned him heel and made bank, then when he started getting cool heel face reactions turn him back and become the hero. Vince on the other had pretty much turns into the world's oldest toddler when fans don't react the way he wants them to and has a tantrum needing to prove he knows what they want better than they do.
  3. The spot calling thing reminded me of my favorite kayfabulous moments watching as a kid. One guy had his opponent in a rear chin lock and was obviously calling spots, and Jesse without missing a beat was all "see that Gorilla, he's talking trash while he has his man trapped in a hold! I used to do that when I wrestled". And just like that, 8 year old me was satisfied with that explanation rather than what was clearly going on.
  4. He released a statement claiming a neck injury, but it doesn't appear he ever had any intention of showing up. It's not like he's someone who would get the benefit of the doubt. Waiting until the day before to cancel comes off as a bitch move designed to hurt the promoter. Also I saw it pointed out on Twitter the irony of Suzuki's gimmick being someone unprofessional and violent and Low Ki's gimmick being a professional but IRL they are the opposite.
  5. I used to live in that area and I still go up there for doctor appointments, where he got hit was a known bad intersection for both cars and pedestrians. Absolutely horrible news for sure, but I wasn't surprised when I heard where it happened.

    NXT talk

EC3 and Spud had some great interplay in TNA, often the best part of the show in the darkest part of the Dixie Era. I hope they get a chance to cross paths in WWE somehow.
  7. From WO:
  8. Not to mention they had to pretty much be shamed into spending money to upgrade production for ROH. The first few months of Sinclair-owned ROH TV were embarrassingly low rent looking. Wasn't it a solid year or two before they upgraded the production? It was in stages. They upgraded to a professional lighting rig after a few months, and later on finally invested in a new video screen setup that didn't look like a bed sheet hung on the wall.
  9. History is written by the victors. Not saying it's fair, but it's what it is. And it is fair to say that women being seen as more than a novelty act in the "WWE Universe" largely started from the presentation they got in NXT. Yes it's now being done largely to let Steph jill off over how great she is for allowing women to wrestle, but they are in positions and given opportunites they seldom had before.
  10. The Rock n Wrestling Era was just Moolah's troupe, which...well we know about that. The moment one started to get popular (Wendi) Vince screwjobbed her and things petered out after that. The Madusa era was just her and 2-3 other women, one who was given a completely embarrassing gimmick because lol fat women, amirite?
  11. One thing is clear, TriPaul is much better at presenting women's wrestling than Vince ever was. He never really had interest and was quick to kill the division on multiple occasions. Even if it was just a reaction to women's MMA taking off, NXT was the place where WWE women's style finally evolved past being one or two decent workers and the rest being pretty girls who couldn't do anything. He clearly has a more nuanced view of wrestling than Vince, but since most people's memories are from the ridiculousness that went on in the Attitude Era he comes off looking like Bernie Sanders by comparison.
  12. Is it possible TSN had a deal to show AWA matches like ESPN did in the US? I would assume WWE would have had the rights to those like they did the ESPN shows, just that TSN/ESPN still had rights to show it on their station too.
  13. Shane's pretty much been the heel this whole program. He's gone out of his way to fuck over KO and Sami at every opportunity.
  14. Not to mention they had to pretty much be shamed into spending money to upgrade production for ROH. The first few months of Sinclair-owned ROH TV were embarrassingly low rent looking.
  15. Also there's the thing to consider that this is probably all going to be angle advancement anyway.
  16. I mean, I don't think Adam Page is bad mind you, I just don't think he's at the level that either NJPW or ROH seem to thing he is yet.
  17. NJPW sees something in Page, he's headlining some shows against Omega for them. I'm more bummed Tanahashi is being wasted on a meaningless tag match when the heel Briscoes killing people has been one of the more fun non Bullet Club related ROH stories.

Still not sure if I actually like the main NXT title or that the old X belt was so stupid that anything was an improvement.

I like it, it looks like a cross between a boxing belt an modern version of a territory's top regional title.
  20. Not really, WWE keeps their scumbaggery to their own little world and don't have hundreds of local news anchors reading off scripts of WWE talking points. Linda's in the administration but it's a position literally no one cared about or heard of before she was named for it. Sinclair has used their influence to try to affect the last several Presidential elections (and it can be argued they helped torpedo John Kerry with their endless hammering of the Swift Boat issue), which is a far bigger issue than having Vince's wife run the SBA.
  21. It seems to me with the Cena-Taker build and the constant mentioning of WM being free for new subs either they are internally worried about the number the next time it gets announced, or they are really close to a milestone number and they wanted to do a big push to make sure they got it. I know we're in a new world where the old rules no longer apply, but it's weird seeing the best Mania card in years and the emphasis on how you can watch it for free.
  22. I assume someone attacks Asuka on SD leading to Carmella trying a cash in only to get killed to death.
  23. The Wargames Collection was one of three removed to make room for new collections today since they want to keep the number available to 50. That would be fine if they didn't have 3 spots taken for the Best of Raw collection.
  24. Yeah Andy actually pitched the idea to the WWF first but Vince Sr famously turned him down.
