  1. The Orton commercial for the Payback PPV was a bit of a non sequitor, as if when they shot it they expected him to be a heel by now. Also the Lesnar/HHH match was a little irritating in the sense that Brock's supposed to be death incarnate but it takes Heyman interference/hammer shot/finisher to beat a guy who works twice a year.
  2. The whole "do you feel weird watching Benoit matches" debate reminded me of how odd it is watching Invader I still in main event angles in WWC.
  3. After hearing him rustle papers during audio shows trying to find data on something, his office ended up pretty much exactly how I pictured it. It's amazing to think about how much history he probably has filed away in that room.
  4. The 'Sack will never go away since he's friends with Bruno. Dave and Bryan have to know how horrible his reviews are and how pretty much everyone hates them, but they probably don't want to risk pissing off one of their best interview subjects by canning his gopher.
  5. On a more Meltzer related note, the show he did with Semp last weekend was tremendous. It might scare people off that it was nearly 3 hours (broken into two parts), but I love Dave and Mike shows since he just lets Dave go and doesn't try to argue semantics like Bryan does. The stories Dave told when they got into question time were great, I love when he goes into old timey rasslin stories like Tim Woods doing a take-on-all-comers gimmick and getting his finger bitten off by an overzealous fan.
  6. Hunter doesn't seem to be the kind of guy willing to admit something he's a part of isn't working.
  7. The talking over people thing reminds me of the phone system where I work (which is getting replaced soon). We use a voice over IP setup that starts to lag after a while and conversations turn into interruption fests. I don't know what kind of setup Bryan uses, but it sounds like something similar happens with his.
  8. One of the more boggling things in WWE is how they continue to script John Cena in a way that seems to be designed to get him booed. Jokey Cena is fine in small doses, but they have him do it so often it makes it hard to like him since he comes off as so obnoxious. It also ties in to the other main issue I have with WWE, is how they script guys to use verbiage no one would use in real life. It's bad enough booking changes based on what wild hair crawls up Vince's ass on a given day, the writers are so afraid of violating the banned words list they have guys speaking in some strange Newspeak-sounding language.
  9. It was a huge TV event in 1977, and wrestling being wrestling they were still referencing it years later.
  10. Not to mention most of the events Dave attends in Southern California are booked to get a largely hispanic audience so it's no surprise Dave doesn't see much racist behavior. I also find it funny he keeps defending Chael's gimmick as being old fashioned pro wrestling, but so was Jerry Lawler saying in Memphis he read Roots backwards so it would have a happy ending.
  11. Listening to Dave on the latest Observer Radio, and it's absolutely mind boggling how he thinks that the idea that there might be a racist in the UFC fanbase is the most preposterous thing ever. The idea that it's 100% racist rednecks/bro dudes is obviously false, but the idea that it doesn't exist at all might be the most in-a-bubble thing ever.
  12. There's part of me that would enjoy super serious pro wres fighter Davey Richards getting some silly Fandango type gimmick in WWE.
  13. I didn't watch the doc, but everything I've heard/seen about Nigel is that it appears someone got in his ear at some point and told him he needs to do X, Y, and Z to get to WWE and he comes off as bitter that it didn't happen. I can see how it comes off as him thinking he's owed a living, but it probably is more him pissed he wrecked his health doing what he thought it took and the door was slammed in his face.
  14. He looks like the average pro football player 10 years later and in need of knee replacements.
  15. I'm just surprised Larry didn't claim HHH stole his gimmick of staying on top in a promotion by banging the boss's daughter.
  16. I know this is like shooting fish in a barrel, but this part really stood out: I know wrestlers' memories tend to be swiss cheese, but Tito lost the belt only a month after they started doing the Liz/Savage/Steele angle which in those days was too soon to know if something was getting over or not.
  17. So WM XXX is going to be in Mid-South's old stomping grounds of New Orleans, but all the major players are already inducted. Just off the top of my head you have Duggan, DiBiase, JYD, Ladd, and of course Watts himself. I'm thinking Magnum TA and Mr. Wrestling II perhaps, or maybe they'll make another run at Sting since he got his first big break in the UWF.
  18. Matt Borne is an interesting case, he could have been just another second generation territory guy riding off his father's name but he was actually pretty good. I first saw him in World Class teaming with Buzz Sawyer, but of course he was also famous for his run in the Rat Pack for Watts. Even gimmicks that had no business getting over like Big Josh and an evil clown were no problem for Matt. It's a shame he never seemed to get out of his own way and let personal demons mess up what should have been a much better career.
  19. Anyone else notice when Dolph won, Big E was doing his impression of that kid who marked out for Ron Simmons?
  20. It's sure to be dismissed as "hardcore" fans (aka them dang interweb fans) who went to Mania and not a reflection of the feelings of the WWE Universe.
  21. My favorite is when Big Show or Kane goozles someone in preparation for a chokeslam, Lawler has to sell it like he's the one being choked.
  22. So Jerry has the AWA belt and the Unified belt, I wonder who ended up with the WCCW one.
  23. Running into Balls Mahoney when he needs a meth fix probably isn't much fun.
  24. I think Dave was saying more that Reid wrestling in Japan was a safe haven since he was being supervised practically 24/7 and was away from the friends back home he did drugs with. He was worried about Reid coming home and possibly falling into the same habits, and that seems to be what happend.
  25. So this weekends classic match on WWC TV was Abdullah vs Baba, which is pretty much the most random pairing ever.
