When the Throbs came back to OVW in November, the roof blew off the Davis Arena. Yeah, they aren't all that great in the ring, but they had that "it" that gets you over in wrestling. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pop up in TNA or in Japan somewhere soon.
-
It's pretty sad that they got over huge as faces in Kentucky doing a "flamboyant" gimmick yet WWE couldn't do anything with them. I guess sending them out to be squashed by Kane every week will do that.
-
I think the original Hogan one is hard to find, since I think it was the last DVD before the WWF-WWE switchover.
-
Jake's is pretty good, but I don't think Netflix carries it. The Warrior's is entertaining if you go into it realizing it's all bullshit.
-
*hugs his Netflix subscription while adding the Brock DVD to the queue*
-
I think the WWE could easily do a burial disc on Brock. All they have to do is get a bunch of old timers to say how ungrateful he was for all the company gave him.
-
Yeah, it's funny how life works. If he hadn't have KO'ed him with that chair, he wouldn't have got the scan that revealed the tumor.
-
If things go bad for Matt, I fully expect WWE to call up Chris Cage (who's chairshot was the reason they found Matt's tumor) to feud with Dalip Singh in a Killers match.
-
Well Jushin Lyger came back from a brain tumor, but I don't think his was cancerous. Also, if you watch the video of his speech, you'll notice that the guy who comes in the ring to hug him is Johnny Jeter. For those who don't follow OVW, they were former tag partners until Matt broke his leg and Johnny turned heel and won the OVW title in what was probably the best booked feud of the last 15 years. Seeing them hug was a real "Dusty/Nikita after Magnum's accident" moment. Who says wrestling can't be real?

Just when Mick Foley was pissing me off

What sickens me, is that apparently Eddie's family was asked if it was okay to do this and they didn't like it but said if it helped Rey, they'd agree to it since he was Eddie's best friend. Now the angle's been designed to help get Orton over, and I get the feeling they lied to Eddie's family in order to be able to say "the family's okay with it so everyone should shut up". -
5/29/1986 - Andre the Giant vs Akira Maeda (NJPW) Yes, this is the famous match that turned into a shoot. Maeda has a well earned reputation for being an asshole who shoots on people, but this time it wasn't his fault. Andre was visibly drunk for this match, wobbling as he walked down the aisle with extremely glassy eyes. He's leaning on the ropes during the intros, and not in that way we're used to that he did late in his career. The bell rings and it's obvious Andre's not playing ball here. He just stands there with his arms at his side daring Maeda to come at him, and when he does he somehow manages a front facelock which almost turns scary when he falls forward still grasping Maeda. You see his legs bend underneath the weight, and there's really nothing he can do until the ref gets Andre to break and they both stand up. Maeda tries a worked kick, and Andre immediately tries to grab the front facelock again. Akira wants no part of being underneath a drunk 500 pounder and bails. Back in the ring, Maeda is clearly trying to figure out what to do here as the situation is starting to become clear that Andre's not only gone into business for himself he's opened a whole franchise. They lock up again, and now Andre is having problems trying to lock in the facelock. It looks like he's trying to do that facelock into a suplex he used, but he just can't get it to happen. Maeda tries to reverse it into a facelock of his own and Andre's attempt to re-reverse ends up looking like 2 siblings wrestling in the living room. They stand up and this time Andre tries a full nelson, which again almost leads to a scary moment as Andre falls forward while keeping the hold on, nearly squashing Maeda's head and neck into the mat. They make the ropes, and now even the ref has his hands full as Andre isn't breaking the hold, causing the ref to do the slowest count ever in an attempt to maintain some level of kayfabe. At this point you can see the ref say something to Andre's cornerman (probably "someone end this shit early") as Andre finally lets go. Now starts the infamous part where Maeda decides he's had enough of this and starts kicking the shit out of Andre's legs. He tries to take Andre down in an attempt to gain some control of the situation, but the Giant's just not having it. Maeda makes several attempts to take Andre down and put him in some sort of armbar, but he's just pushing his way out of everything. He tries again, this time he goes for a leg hold, which leads to scary moment #3 where Andre kicks wildly with is free leg and just misses booting Maeda in the head legit. Andre makes it to the ropes and the ref is hesitant to break the hold since it's the first time Maeda's been able to get a handle on things. The hold's broken and we're back to a standoff as Andre has given up any pretense of cooperation at this point. It's becoming obvious that Andre's not even paying attention as Maeda has to keep circling around him to make it seem Andre's looking at him. He's starting to wobble even more and the stiff kicking begins in earnest. He gets about 4or 5 stiff kicks without a result, leaving Maeda to stand with his hands on his hip as to say "what the fuck am I supposed to do now?" He even turns to Andre's cornerman and throws his hands up. I should point out that this match is already past the 20 minute mark and there's no way this should have gone on this long. Andre is growing tired of the evasion tactics and lunges. More stiff kicks ensue and this is starting to look like an episode of COPS when the police try to taser someone who's too drunk or high to feel it. I think the plan was to try to take Andre down with shoot kicks, but he's not even selling that at this point. Finally, just as the crowd is starting to realize something's not going right, Inoki comes down to ringside. Maeda finally gets Andre down with the shoot kicks, he ends up half against the ropes and half off his feet. After a few more kicks, Andre gives an "I'm done with this" hand motion and walks back to his corner to speak with the cornerman. What's funny is while Maeda is telling Inoki the situation, Andre's complaining and gesturing as if he's upset at the shoot kicks. Inoki gets in the ring, which gives the ref the chance to say what's going on under the pretext of ushering him back outside again. Amazingly, no one stops the match yet, leaving Maeda no choice but to deliver more stiff kicks while Andre complains to the ref and the cornerman about it. Things are starting to completely break down, as Maeda is taking down the Giant with ease, and finally Andre decides he's not going to get up again. Inoki enters the ring, says something to the ref (I'm guessing Japanese for "ring the fucking bell") and Maeda's seconds enter the ring and rush Inoki. Everyone looks legit pissed, and Andre challenges Maeda's whole posse to a fight. All in all, it was a complete mess from start to finish. There's no way this should have lasted 30 minutes, it put Maeda in a position where not only did he have to shoot in order to protect himself, he had to expose the business by having to take down the unbeatable Giant with ease. A lot of people who hear about this match just assume it was Maeda being a dick like he would do the next year when he kicked Choshu in the face and broke his orbital bone. Andre entered the ring in no condition to perform and put himself and his opponent in danger. There was no less than 3 instances where Maeda could have been hurt due to Andre's falling over. No star rating, since it's pretty much Maeda trying to defend himself from a drunk Giant for 30 minutes.

Just when Mick Foley was pissing me off

I'm undecided on this for a several reasons: 1. WWE.com was supposed to have a new kayfabe policy after HHH was upset that they broke the news of his spawn. 2. I don't doubt Foley's personal feelings, yet he'll still accept a paycheck from a company that insults the memory of a person he considers a friend. Seems a bit hypocritical to me. 3. What's to say this isn't setting up some type of angle, or WWE trying to "work the smarts"? -
c/p'ed from DVDVR: As someone who's experienced cancer in my family, I can say this is horrible news. A 2 out of 4 isn't as bad as it could be, but any cancer/tumor in the brain is nothing to mess around with. I hope he can beat this and resume a normal life, no matter if it involves wrestling or not.
-
What's sad is Vince will probably interpret it as no intrest in DVD sets of PPVs instead of the fans not wanting to accept a shit product.

I've been getting the discs from Netflix, and they've got to be the shittiest and most easily scratched DVDs I've seen in years. They look like shit from back when DVDs first came out and people were figuring out the whole disc art thing. I've had to get replacements to at least 4 of them because they were too scratched to play. It's embarrassing for a multi-million dollar company to release shit like that. The packaging's even worse. A disc on the box lid? How fucking ghetto is that?

I was watching WM 15 tonight and not only did the miss a blur on one of the roughly 5 zillion people running around ringside with the WWF Attitude shirts, they missed it during the women's match when Cole mentioned that they still had 2 more title matches, the European title and the WWF title. They did however change the Rock's chyron to read "WWE Champion" which looked pretty odd. I haven't been watching blur-era WWF much, but I seem to remember the blur being more (for lack of a better term) blurry. Back when they first started it, you couldn't tell what was being censored, but you could can still see the scratch logo through the blurs now it seems.

I hope NOAH realizes ROH is geared toward smart fans and that the shouldn't use their reaction to gauge a potential US fanbase. The best thing they can do is co-promote some shows with ROH since their fanbase is pretty much the only one that's going to buy tickets based on seeing Japanese talent on the card.

Feb = sweeps month there will always be something worth watching. Also Edge & Lita = the nuuuuuuuu Randy Savage & Liz. That's wrong on so many levels....
-
Maybe some MMA fans that are flocking to TNA found WWE as well.
-
The one with all 21 shows.
-
A poster at DVDVR was waiting on a replacement from DDD and was refunded his money and was told the set has been discontinued. Any word on what prompted this? Complaints about the sound and blurrage perhaps?

What grates me more than anything is how Vince is in Coach's headset and you end up with Coach doing his best Announcer Vince impression while Joey and Lawler try to call whatever the hell's going on. Sometimes it sounds like Coach is watching another channel on his monitor and is commenting on that instead. They need to get rid of Coach (which isn't fair, he's really not bad when he's not being Vince's sock puppet) and leave Lawler and Joey to call the show.

I think TNA would benefit from going back to a more 80s NWA style, I know when I was younger I used to think WWF was fake and NWA was real just because of the difference in styles. *edit* Just to expand on what I mean by that, they already do a lot of what I consider 80s NWA style. Stuff like making title belts important, which I think is something every group should do. Nothing has bothered me more about "WWE style" than the belts becoming meaningless props.

Next year the entire Rumble PPV will be HHH making snow angels in the ring so he can be the first guy to go over 2 hours in a WWE ring.
