I would be the 2nd guy Re the original topic, i'm drawing a bit of a blank. Never been a Kawada fan but i've mentioned that a bunch in the past & don't wanna beat a dead horse. Never huge on Jumbo but I wouldn't say I dislike him. Dolph Ziggler's a guy i've never gotten what the big deal is about. Good wrestler, i've enjoyed a lot of his matches but nothing about him screams main event guy who should be world champ and no self respecting true villan would ever write HEEL on their freakin ass.

Finished listning to the latest show yesterday, came away wondering, were any of the more famous promoters like Max Crabtree & Brian Dixon influential enough as individuals to warrant consideration for the WON HoF? Also, poped for the mention of Flash Jordan. Only saw him once but he certainly left a lasting impression since he looked like a 70's Mike Quackenbush.

The Beginner's Guide To British Wrestling
FLIK replied to ohtani's jacket's topic in Megathread archive
Only minor complaint I had with the doc was they didn't mention the formation/existence of All Star & approached things from the persepctive that Joint was the only game in town from start to finish. Other then that it was great stuff. -
Oh come on, 2 months and no one mentions this?

What kind are you looking for? Something that's just a random collection of great matches or something focusing more on a specific company/wrestler/feud/etc? I've made 3 diffrent ones (link in sig) but dunno if any would be your style or not

I figure I will enjoy Evad vs DDP to a point, because I'm a DDP fan, and he's at his best when working with inferior/lazy workers, as his overachievness tendencies pushes him to drag a load beyond their usual capacities. Well, we're talking about the Equalizer, but still. Plus having him on a low/mid card feud just wouldn't be as infuriating as when he's interacting with Flair to build the biggest match in WCW history. He's still the worst thing thus far in 1994 (although Da Butcher is getting close). What's funny is most of the feud or atleast the setup doesn't involve them wrestling each other. There's a stretch of time that, in my mind atleast feels like months whear DDP only appeared on Pro/Worldwide (forget which), no other shows and the only thing he'd get to do each week was arm wrestle jobbers with Evad finally being the big pay off. Even at the time, being a know nothing, accept everything youngster I thought it was really odd. Looking back now & trying to take an educated guess i'd assume maybe DDP was injured or something but not sure as I never have heard the story behind that period of his career & always did wonder WTF was going on.

..............I'd just like to say that I loved Evad back in 1995, still have fond memories of his C show arm wrestling feud with DDP over Kimberly, The Rabbit & The Piggy Bank and I used to still sing "I want to be a Hulkamaniac" around the house ocasionally....it was a catchy tune....

That'd actually be a cool concept if it was better organized & not on facebook

On that note, anyone remember the Christian vs Rhino vs Angle 3 way whear they got the entire hour of tv (TNA only had 1 at the time) for the match? Don't recall ever hearing much talk about it good or bad. I've always wanted to see it and did tape it when it aired but it's in a massive pile of unlabled stuff so I no longer recall what tape I put it on.

Could have sworn there was a previous TNA recomendations thread but can't find it anywhear for the life of me. Got hit in the head a lot today though, perhaps i'm imagining things
-
Not sure what % but a pretty significant amount of the voters for the WON HOF are current & former wrestlers.

I always got a kick out of some random background character in the anime movie Akira sporting a UWF/UWFI (I forget which) shirt

One in 94 but it's clipped down to 5 mins.

It actually got AJW temporarily kicked off the air in some regions of Japan if the story is true.

Yup, that's pretty much my stance as well. He's been repeatedly labled a failure by ppl in this thread & elsewhear so I got the same impression.

I'm in the middle on Lynn myself, I don't think he's great but don't think he's horrible either. I know a lot of ppl who're on both ends of the spectrum though honestly I do know more who fall on the good/great side of things then the opposite.

Nope & there is literally nothing you could put after "for" in that sentence that would make him ballot worthy. for tape trading? Nope for interviewing? Nope for his legendary managerial runs as BWO member 7 & the "Fun Athletic Guy"? Nope for attempted child molestation? Nope for curing cancer? Nope for bringing Eddie Guerrero back to life?......maybe....eh, Nope No case for Rob Feinstein as a Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame member can possibly be made. Heck, with all the stories of over the years ppl have told about poor quality tapes, some orders not being fulfilled & slow shipping on others that were , he's not even a great candidate for a Tape Trader hall of fame. The mans no Jeff Lynch

Hmm, off the top of my head I don't recall what the crowd split was like for any of the other Toyota/Hokuto matches. That said, Toyota was always over huge in the future no matter who she's go against. It became kind of a diffrent beast later on though as 90 & maybe a little into 91 is really the last year for a long long time you can tell there's a heavy school girl demo making up the audiance. Things switched to the audiance being dominated by mostly males pretty quickly after this. Not that lots of women weren't still coming too but even they tended to be more of a diffrent, older group.

Has anyone ever managed to snag Don West for a podcast interview? Sems like he'd be a good guest having had such a weird ride through wrestling, going from never being involved in it before being hired by TNA to spending the next decade working for them in various roles.

I reviewed every AJW show I could find from 1990 through the middle of 1993 on my blog (link in sig) as well as a lot of JWP & other random joshi. rzombie1988 aka Joshi Rob has a lot of good reviews on his blog too. You can try looking up PUNQ's ratings list or go to Quebrada.net. With both i'd say take their opinions with a grain of salt (which you should do with anyones, mine included) as they can be a tad overly negative on a lot of things other ppl enjoy so don't let that necesarilly be a turn off but they're both great sources for recomendations. The forumn can be a headache inducing mess at times but there's good stuff to be had if you look closely enough on joshifans.com, mainly in the matches section.

Random pointless fact, in Japan the comedy spot that ppl still do to this day whear everyone in the match spins around & jumps up in the air is named the "Kendo hop"

MLW Radio (ep #50) this week was really awesome with Konnan, Court Baure, MSL & Gabe Sapolsky. Most of the show is them talking about their various experiences booking promotions but the 1st 15-20 mins or so they have a pretty interesting discussion about Meltzer, why they all wanted to be sources for him, thinking he's not as influential as he used to be & talking about him spending too much time on MMA now & not being able to cover indies/lucha/other stuff the way he used to. Also amused at Konnan name dropping JDW or atleast I think he did. He mentions some guy who used to come down to AAA shows named Williams that was always going on about Misawa & psychology and I figured "well that sounds like JDW to me"

All Japan's roster isn't THAT stacked. They're still having to rely on bringing in bringing in a lot of outside talent for their big shows, a lot of their current top main roster heavyweights are getting older, guys like Akebono are branching out to do more work elsewhear & Taiyo Kae is leaving for a while to go back to college so they've got roster spots to fill. Kanemaru I can take or leave but if they can afford them, Akiyama who they've been using a lot anyways, Go & Suzuki would be big boost to their full time roster. Best case scenario they do a similar thing to Kensuke Office whear they work mainly as All Japan guys but remain a seperate group that just runs the ocasional stand alone show or outside booking.
