He didn't invent it if that's what he meant. Meltzer's talked about it a bunch recently, short version, the term MMA had existed for years as that's what Inoki used to call his mixed matches vs Karate guys & boxers n shit & the term may have gone back further then that. When Blatnick went over to Japan he heard it thear and then years later he did sugest it to UFC when they were looking for something to replace no holds bared.
-
Yeah, with out going back to re-watch the clip, he's in the group of guys walking through the street singing and in the studio group shots as well.
-
Most are lost on me but among the few that are easily identifiyable that you didn't mention, Giant Haystaks, Finlay & Steve Wright are all over this thing.
-
Holy shit. Erik Watts in 92 wouldn't have done worse (excuse my references, I'm living in a wrestling time warp). Heh, this is a perfect example of why guys should always throw shit like they mean it even when they know it won't connect. I assume the spot was Orton was supposed to catch him with a punch to the gut or something. If Del Rio had actually been GOING for a move like an axe handle or clothesline instead of jumping up like an idiot who knew Orton was gonna counter things would have turned out much better. Worst case Orton would have gotten hit cause he forgot the spot but that's a heck of a lot better then a botchamania supreme moment like that

Eh, Stinks is stretching things but no, he wasn't good enough that he'd have lasted this many years in the company had he stuck to in ring instead of switching to becoming a manager & announcer. Same deal for Josh Matthews.
-
Yeah, he started out in OVW & has been in FCW the last 2-3 years
-
Punk is still the champ, nothing else matters.
-
https://recruit.wwe.com/information.php Everyone knows it's true, but i'm still kinda amused the company actually says so on their own website.
-
Yeah, they had a couple month run in WCW around 96 but it never amounted to much. Kinda want to go re-watch their Nitro match vs Arn & Flair that got like 20 mins and see if that was any good. Diffrent style, but Morton was really awesome in the few FMW tours he did in 96 & 97, wish he'd have stuck around thear longer then he did.

"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad
FLIK replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
Bah, I say just have Punk pin Ryback. Something like Ryback is on top kicking his ass, Punk throws powder in his eyes, quick roll up, hook the tights & feet on the ropes. Post match Punk runs for the hills as Ryback recovers quickly. Ryback kills the ref or smashes the door or drops Heyman or whatever to get some heat back & next night on RAW he kills a billion jobbers. Punk keeps the belt, Ryback will still be super over, problem solved. -
Heart attack yeah, happened last year

I didn't bother to read that article but looking at the captions for the pics I learned the following things - women in bikinis are bad & nearly naked - homosexuality is wrong & bad for the children - sex of any kind is wrong - any time a males face nears anothers crotch or a males crotch nears anothers butt no matter the context that = simulated sex - WCW & WWE are the same thing Really though, there's no point arguing stuff like this. True stupidity is never really correctable & always points itself out which I apreciate since I like to know who the idiots are in the world so I can stay far away from them.

BUMP 1 year later, Bushido put up their version of the match. Camera angle is from the stage, a little higher up then whear Eric was sitting
-
Nothing to do with the original topic but man it's fucking weird to think that The Big Show is nearing in on being a 20 year vet, I still remember his debut clear as day.
-
For me it was easy since I just started adding stuff 1 match at a time as I watched things. Otherwise, yeah I was the same way pretty much whear if I had to come up with any sort of organized favorite matches ever list it would have been pretty difficult.
-
I've sort of been keeping a similar list myself, to keep track of matches i'd have as my all time favorites. No plans or way I could limit it to 50 or any particular # as it's a constant work in progress I've only been keeping track for a little over a year thus it only list stuff i've watched in that time frame. There's a TON of things not on here that would be if I could be bothered to getting around to it 03/14/1973 Johnny Saint vs Jim Breaks 05/05/1973 (British Lightweight Title) Jim Breaks © vs Johnny Saint 11/08/1975 Steve Veidor vs Al Hayes 01/13/1980 Bobby The Brain Heenan vs Lord Alfred Hayes 03/11/1988 (IWGP JR Title) Hiroshi Hase © vs Nobuhiko Takada 06/07/1990 (UWA Middleweight Title) Yoshinari Asai © vs Negro Casas 08/19/1990 Aja Kong & Bison Kimura vs Bull Nakano & Grizzly Yamato 11/17/1990 (Elimination Match) Aja Kong, Bison Kimura, Madusa, Tarantula & Xochitl Hamada vs Manami Toyota, Mariko Yoshida, Kaoru Maeda, Mika Takahashi & Estelle Moreno 11/02/1991 (World Middleweight Title) Owen Hart © vs Danny Collins 10/23/1992 Genichiro Tenryu & Koki Kitahara vs Shiro Koshinaka & Kengo Kimura 01/24/1993 Kyoko Inoue vs Takako Inoue 01/24/1993 Akira Hokuto, Etsuko Mita & Mima Shimoda vs Harley Saito, Eagle Sawai & Miki Handa 02/16/1993 (2 out of 3 Falls) Riki Choshu, Tatsumi Fujinami, Osamu Kido, Hiroshi Hase & Tayayuki Iizuka vs Genichiro Tenryu, Ashura Hara, Takashi Ishikawa, Ricky Fuyuki & Tatsumi Kitahara 04/02/1993 Devil Masami vs Chigusa Nagayo 04/02/1993 Dynamite Kansai vs Yumiko Hotta 04/02/1993 Akira Hokuto vs Shinobu Kandori 04/18/1993 Bull Nakano vs Devil Masami 06/15/1993 (Elimination Match) Riki Choshu, Shinya Hashimoto, Tatsumi Fujinami, Masa Chono & Hiroshi Hase vs Genichiro Tenryu, Ashura Hara, Takashi Ishikawa, Tatsu Goto & Super Strong Machine 07/16/1993 Chris Jericho & Ultimo Dragon vs Negro Casas & El Dandy 12/10/1993 (Mask vs Mask) Super Delfin vs Sato 07/23/1994 (WWF Title) Bret Hart © vs Bob Backlund 07/31/1996 Mayumi Ozaki Reiko Amano & Sugar Sato vs Kaoru Toshie Uematsu & Chikayo Nagashima 08/18/1996 Mayumi Ozaki, Reiko Amano, Sugar Sato & Chikayo Nagashima vs Chigusa Nagayo, Sonoko Kato, Toshie Uematsu & Sakura Hirota 09/16/1996 (AJW Tag Titles) Sugar Sato & Chikayo Nagashima © vs Sonoko Kato & Toshie Uematsu 04/12/1997 Akira Hokuto vs Kaoru 07/19/1997 (WCW Women's Cruiserweight Title) Toshie Uematsu © vs Yoshiko Tamura 11/30/1997 Mayumi Ozaki & Sugar Sato vs Kaoru & Toshiyo Yamada 11/27/1997 (RWTL) Mitsuharu Misawa & Jun Akiyama vs Hayabusa & Jinsei Shinzaki 10/05/1998 (B-CUP '98 Tournament R1) Yuki Ishikawa vs Mitsuhiro Matsunaga 12/27/1998 Aja Kong & Mayumi Ozaki vs Toshiyo Yamada & Meiko Satomura 11/09/1999 Alexander Otsuka vs Mitsuhiro Matsunaga 12/09/2001 Tetsuhiro Kuroda, Kintaro Kanemura, Mr. Gannosuke & Mammoth Sasaki vs Genichiro Tenryu, Kodo Fuyuki, Arashi & Kouki Kitahara 12/21/2001 (WEW Tag Title Tournament FINAL) Tetsuhiro Kuroda & Mr. Gannosuke vs Kintaro Kanemura & Mammoth Sasaki 10/01/2005 Kenta Kobashi vs Samoa Joe 10/02/2005 Samoa Joe & Low Ki vs Homicide & Kenta Kobashi 03/07/2008 (16 Carat Gold Tournament 2008 R1) Bryan Danielson vs Mike Quackenbush 03/08/2008 (World Of Sports Rules) Johnny Saint vs Mike Quackenbush 12/12/2008 (Tohoku Jr. Title ) Yoshitsune © vs Hayato Fujita Jr 06/17/2009 (Tohoku Jr. Title ) Hayato Fujita Jr © vs Great Sasuke 06/25/2009 Magnum Tokyo vs Toshiaki Kawada 06/25/2010 Shuri vs Kana 10/03/2010 Sakura Hirota & Kikutaro vs Toshie Uematsu & Ran YuYu 07/17/2011 (RAW Title) John Cena © vs CM Punk 09/11/2011 (Hardcore Match) Sexy Lady vs Ludark Shaitan 09/17/2011 Psycho Circus vs Fake Doink the Clown, Giant Clown & Beast the Clown 12/08/2011 (NWA Southern Title - No DQ) Se7eN © vs Drew Haskins 12/19/2011 (APW Universal Title vs Blackwell's Career) Jeckles © vs Larry Blackwell 12/23/2011 (IWGP IC Title) Masato Tanaka © vs Tomoaki Honma 12/31/2011 Team Ken Ohka vs Team Ryuichi Sekine Whole Indy Pro Wrestling World Great Battle 74 Person New Year Bonus Track 01/15/2012 Blue Panther, Atlantis & Solar vs Ultimo Guerrero, Felino & Negro Navarro 03/04/2012 (IWGP Title) Kazuchika Okada © vs Tetsuya Naito 04/22/2012 (SPW Tag Titles) The Reno Scum Adam Thornstowe & Luster The Legend © vs Virgil Flynn & El Chupacabra 05/20/2012 (RAW Title) CM Punk © vs Daniel Bryan 06/10/2012 (Anything Goes) Bully Ray vs Joseph Park 06/16/2012 (IWGP Title) Kazuchika Okada © vs Hiroshi Tanahashi 09/22/2012 (Last Man Standing) The Riv vs Levi Shapiro 10/8/2012 (IWGP Title) Hiroshi Tanahashi © vs Minoru Suzuki 10/14/2012 (Street Fight w Special Enforcer King Mo) Bobby Roode vs James Storm yeah this

Just watched Tanahashi/Suzuki from 1/4/2012 Not on the lvl of the October match but still really good and in a completely diffrent way. A few spots that got repeated in the 2nd match but that's to be exspected, Suzuki & Tanahashi both did arm/leg work as well though it wasn't a major theme in this one. Much more your traditional big puro match style with more giant moves, near falls, fighting outside, etc.. One interesting contrast was that Suzuki was much more his usual dickish heel self, he made funny faces, joked around a bit, taunted Tanahashi, did balarena leg raises while Tanahashi lay on the floor knocked out. Works well as a set up for the 2nd match whear the over riding story was Suzuki was coming into it in 100% serious i'm not fucking around mode.
-
Eh, I think you're reaching a bit on this one. Saying Suzuki has the stand out performance of the match and saying Tanahashi brought nothing to the table and was just a body along for the ride are two diffrent thigs.
-
Not 100% on the timeline but this was shortly before he messed it up apparently.

Okada/Naito II from this years G1 - Another one to use if one wants to make a case for Okada as WOTY. Great match, just tad bit less then their first. Okada's selling is top notch and i'm digging his whole persona & the act w Gedo more & more over time. I don't particularly buy him as really being this arrogant "make it reign" superstar but I totally buy Gedo as a weasly Don King figure attatching himself to the hot new superstar and corrupting him for his own profit. Like hey kid, you let me worry about the contracts & money, here's some big shinny bling & bitches to keep ya happy. Also i'm totally stealling the Rain Maker next time I go to wrestling practice. Don't want to sell Naito short here either as he more then carried his load too, is great in his role as the hot up & coming flashy baby face ace of the future & is great as Naito's arch rival. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xubqsm_08...-08-03-12_sport

Dusty Rhodes tells a story in his book about Murdoch taking him to a KKK rally as a surprise. Dusty tried to pass it off as him playing a rib and just wanting to live the gimmick for apperances sake but I call BS on that. Plus there's too many other ppl who've made claims that he was racist for there not to be fire near the smoke. Re the original topic, from pretty much all accounts i've heard from guys from that era. The ones who stayed put in 1 territory were the wrestlers who were the exceptions & not the rule. It was universally accepted that most wrestlers wouldn't stay in one place TOO long, that there was only so much you could do with a guy before he got stale and his drawing power diminished (especially true in the case of a guy like Abdullah or Andre who were thought to only work best most places as short term special attractions) or a guy would get in an argument with a promoter or something else would happen that he would want to move on. There were plenty of places to go work & make money & it wasn't so easy to get into the business back then so if you were talented it was guaranteed you'd find work elsewhear. Plenty of stories about how promoters/bookers would call up other territories to get guys work and encourage them to leave so that they could bring in new talent and keep the product fresh. Dutch Mantell on his recent AOW podcast interview talked a lot about this subject just as a refrence off the top of my head.
