He's currently my #99 but he might fall off in the next couple of months.

Low Ki above Jerry Lawler was one of the first things I noticed but it's fine, everyone's list is going to have things that some of us find odd. GOTNW's profile says he's only 19 too. He didn't grow up in the same eras that others of us did too. I find it interesting. Happy birthday, by the way.

I'm in the same boat with Savage. He keeps dropping... I need to go read his thread.

I have 100 working names now. The order is still being arranged, almost daily... and a few guys at the very bottom might move off & be replaced with other fringe guys for me. But I do have 100 names now & if I had to turn it in tomorrow, I could. I'm more happy with my top 50 than bottom 50. I don't feel like I'm finished yet. I'll admit though, since this project started, I've never watched this much pro-wrestling in my life. I mean, we're bordering on unhealthy at this point, legit. If I could go back in time, however, I would have spent more time on people I was totally unfamiliar with that were nominated instead of watching more footage of people I was familiar with to try to remind myself of how I felt about them or get a better, more familiar understanding of them. There are a few Puroresu names on my list that will be higher on the list of others than they are on mine, and that's because I'm terrible at time management. Tenryu, Fujiwara, Hase, Choshu, Hashimoto... I've just accepted that there's not enough time now. I mean, I spent a couple of days doing nothing but watching John Tenta, One Man Gang & Big Boss Man matches but I think I've only seen one Jerry Blackwell match in my life & he's not on my list, nor will he be. Just as an example. Biggest surprises for me were Larry Zybysko & The Destroyer. At the end of the day, we're all going to have different lists & there will be a lot of debating & arguing over numbers but I'll be able to say although others will disagree with some of mine (and that's fine) I know that I put the time in & am presenting something that I'm OK with my name being attached to. What more can be asked?

This reminds me of how good Alberto El Patron is but how boring & bland he becomes in WWE as Alberto Del Rio.
-
Speaking of Meltzer, did he rate the Wrestle Kingdom 10 matches yet?
-
And Cesaro & Tyson Kidd. They were the tag champs last year.

Man, in the year 2016, if those are the names they're banking on to sell Wrestlemania, I am going to be super disappointed. And next year will be even worse. Eventually they HAVE to make NEW stars. They can't keep banking on wrestlers from years past. They have Roman Reigns. Build-up Ambrose & Wyatt more. Bring back Daniel Bryan. Maybe call-up some NXT people. They should not be looking to guys like The Undertaker, The Rock and Chris Jericho every year. They have to make new names of this problem is only going to get worse, injuries or not. They need to stop with the parity booking & allow some people to get a lot of wins.

I like how you laid that out. I certainly have weaknesses in my game too. Strengths: WWF/WWE 1987-present All of WCW First five-seven years of TNA ECW from 1996-close Early 90's AJPW A lot of 1980's NWA Most of ROH Modern New Japan Weaknesses: Lucha Joshi A lot of Puro (especially older stuff) A lot of territory stuff (especially Portland, Florida or Montreal) Anything in black in white.

Re-watched Ishii/Shibata, Nakamura/Styles & Tanahashi/Okada all three again today because I was showing them all to a friend that had not seen the show yet. I'm still a big fan of all three. I mean, I could find flaws & pick them apart somewhat if I wanted to but this early in the year, I'm just glad I got a good PPV. I imagine all three matches won't be forgotten when we're at the end of the year.

I'll believe Nakamura is going to the main roster when I see it. WWE doesn't exactly have a great track record for their Japanese stars.
-
Yes, very weird. You should see a doctor weird.

Both guys are capable of having great matches built around selling and psychology, so yeah. I find it a disappointing waste of talent that they're content to have this kind of match with each other. Let's not forget what two matches were following that match & what kind of match the people following them were having. It's a good thing to have different matches in a row.

Well, he was boys with A-Train in NJPW, and now A-Train is the head trainer in NXT, so maybe it's something as simple as that? There's also the Bullet/Balor club connection, of course.

Becky/Charlotte was good. One of the better Divas matches since all the NXT call-ups. Outside of that match though, they're not giving this live crowd a lot. I guess they got up for the Ambrose table spot though. But Stardust Vs. Titus and now Big Show Vs. Ryback. Oof. EDIT: Welp, nevermind on the Ryback/Show match! haha

I think Chris Jericho & Rob Van Dam are the two biggest names I care about the least when they return to WWE. It just happens so often that it's not special anymore. Jericho is the new Foley.

Anyone know what this is about? https://twitter.com/DeathToAllMarks/status/684142105988599808

I'm more curious about what The Undertaker will do after he does retire from in-ring work. I can't imagine him having any sort of talking role, or doing things out of gimmick... but I also can't see him completely walking away from pro-wrestling entirely. Maybe he does go back to the talking biker 'Taker & becomes an authority figure or something down the road.

I agree with this statement but my question is, how does a guy like Jake that doesn't have the high-end stuff fall below guys that only have like twelve matches total that anyone has seen? Guys like Pat O'Connor are going to be on lists and how much of his stuff is even on film? Someone watches five matches on YouTube and suddenly he's top 100 all-time but then guys like Jake & Barbarian get totally disregarded. Definitely some different criteria among all of us for what constitutes inclusion in the list. Which isn't even a negative as I like that the lists will be so different from one another.

Right and you could have just said this match didn't work for you. But you didn't say that, you went with the outlandish statement. You said it was one of the worst matches that you've ever watched & maybe the worst. That's a big statement on a forum full of nothing but reviews and discussions about wrestlers and matches.
-
That doesn't even make sense. So if guys go out & have an average match, that match is some how worse than a throwaway Kane match because you have lower expectations for Kane? Having lower expectations for him doesn't make his match any better... That's really reaching. You didn't like the match, cool. No one here would condemn you for it. Trying to say it was the worst match you've ever seen... I know it's the internet and all, but we don't have to be full of that much hyperbole to try to get a point across. I'm having Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons flashbacks.
-
I really envy your wrestling catalog of matches/shows you've seen then! Hell, did you watch all of this card? You thought that was the worst match on this card? Worse than anything WWE has done, including their Divas, or TNA or XPW? Throw away Ryback or Big Show matches on RAW or Smackdown? lol..

Sabu is one of the only people where when going back & re-watching ECW, I feel like his stuff holds up. It's like, Sabu, 2 Cold Scorpio & Tajiri. Throw in some Little Guido and an occasional Steve Corino or Mikey Whipwreck & the rest is mostly forgettable. As others have mentioned, Sabu just has an aura about him. His stuff is always fun. You don't know if it's going to be a trainwreck or not but you want to watch it to find out. He just has that intangible about him where you want to watch him. I sort of agree & kind of disagree about the point where the botches don't hurt his matches. I can see both sides of that one. Blown spots sort of fit in with his breakneck, ruthless match style. Where he's crazy & he'll try anything, regardless of the consequences or repercussions that it may bring. But on the other side of the pillow, sometimes it just looks like he messed-up & takes me out of a match. It's a fine line. Definitely unique for him in that regard though. Anyone else & I would instantly be out of the match, more than likely. So since it doesn't guarantee that I feel that way when it happens to Sabu, I guess it's a net positive. That being said though, Sabu puts himself into a lot more situations where something could go wrong than most wrestlers do. There's not exactly a lot of people trying to do triple jump moonsaults. One time Tommy Dreamer was verbally putting over Sabu, talking about his greatness & how he was under appreciated & the folks should feel honored that they got to see Sabu. At the time, I rolled my eyes. I grew up watching guys like André the Giant & I did feel honored being able to see him & was bummed that I never got to meet him in person. Now though, I can sort of see what Tommy was talking about. Sabu is an original. We've seen the Sheik gimmick before, of course, but what Sabu brings to the table - he really was innovative. Sabu is going to be at the very bottom end of my list. Also, random fun fact: in high school I wore a lot of pro-wrestling shirts. I don't remember them all, but I know that in the rotation were three ECW shirts. Two of which were just ECW logo brand t-shirts. The third was a Sabu shirt. A shirt that I had to turn inside out once because a teacher was upset that it said "homicidal, suicidal & genocidal" on it.

Jesus Christ, no way on God's green is that opener 4-star. Maybe 2. MAYBE. Super spotty. Super sloppy. Full of a ton of bullshit stalling, contrived spots, people standing around waiting for the next person to get their shit in, all the "comedy" shit with the suck it chants & crotch-chops & shit. That match was horrible. Pretty much everything that I hate about professional wrestling was on display in that match. Everyone needs to watch the last three matches on this card though. Awesome, super fun stuff. fwiw the opener featured 8 of my favorite wrestlers on the planet and it's EXACTLY what I wanted from the match. I wanted a spotty mess - that's what those teams are good at. Not saying that's all that they are capable of, as Matt Sydal has proven to be one of the best and most versatile wrestlers on the planet, but in this instance, the match is exactly what it should've been. I loved it, but I also love spots and moves and fun. That's cool. I'm not dumping on your for your opinion. Re-reading what I said, it sounds a lot more hostile than I intended it to be. So I apologize for that. I wasn't a fan of it but if others were, more power to them. My favorite thing about the last three matches is how each one felt so different from the one before it. WWE talks a lot about being a "circus" where if you don't like the trapeze artists, you may like the clowns or lion tamers (or whatever their analogy is) but in NJPW, it actually feels like the matches are very different from one another. I like that. Not just because it allows the matches to stand out from one another but because you get to see what different fans enjoy from pro-wrestling. Following Wrestle Kingdom this year, reading what people are saying about the final three matches, it's really cool to see how people differ in their tastes, likes & dislikes. I'm curious to see what Dave Meltzer rates each of the three. Shibata/Ishii made me literally jump to my feet at one point, when Shibata hit that jumping Dragon Kick. That was a holy shit moment for me. I've not had a reaction like that from wrestling in a long time. Nakamura/Styles was a good match but right now, I feel like it was my least favorite of the three... which seems to be the opposite of what I'm reading from others. There were some great sequences in that match though. I really liked the Spinning-backfist into the jumping arm bar into the one-armed Styles Clash. That was gross! Not saying anything about Tanahashi/Okada until I watch it again. I want to read more of what others say about it too. This match is going to be polarizing, I think.
