  1. I'm treating it more like a game, where I have 100 lives and I want to end with as many as possible still standing. My list has guys like Scott Steiner, Sting and Dusty on it, so there isn't much elitism coming from me. I am gutted to have lost 8 soldiers already though.
  2. To expand on this, some guys are carpenters(Bret Hart) and some guys are architects(Kobashi). A master carpenter does everything with a purpose, and can build thousands of nice, but unspectacular houses. Occasionally he builds an exceptionally beautiful house, but he still bases everything on those basic carpentry skills. Kobashi designs beautiful skyscrapers. Kobashi doesn't swing a hammer as well as Bret, but when you look at their body of work Kobashi's resume is much more impressive. This is an argument for or against the value of carpentry. I value carpentry, but much less than Grimmas, he thinks that swinging a hammer well means more than I do. I don't care whether you are the best hammer swinger ever, I can't look at your sturdy homes and say that he is better than Kobashi's skyscrapers. Luger is a very good worker on a construction site, he's someone who does what he does very well. Austin is the foreman, when he is in charge he's going to get every ounce of work out of his crew. Luger is always going to have a job, but you never mistake him for a guy you can make the foreman. Beautiful prose.
  3. One slightly ironic thing about all of the whole process is that, despite the fact we've argued so much, Matt D and I -- and indeed Grimmas and I -- have some pretty similar tastes when it comes to a lot of guys. As long as they aren't talking Flair, Bret, Lucha shit or modern shit, I usually agree with both of them.
  4. I'm actually enjoying it. The hue and cry of "NOOOO! MY FAVORITES ARE DROPPING AND SO TOO IS MY OVER-INFLATED SENSE OF HOW MUCH MY OPINION MATTERS!" is really quite spectacular. I've gone from dreading being the high vote on Triple H to kinda hoping I am just so I can bask in the knowledge that my vote has just as much value as the guys who seem to think that their bias is somehow more justified. Carry on, gents! I do think there are factors at play OTHER than bias or subjectivity. For example, what have you seen? Everyone has gaps, of course, but some gaps are bigger than others. My gaps are bigger than Chad's, for example.
  5. Let it be Scotty Steiner!
  6. God, my guys dropping like flies today. Magnum was my 8th
  7. I wonder how high Christian can get. Tune in to find out on next weeks Totally Reeks of Awesomeness of whatever show!
  8. Just realised that was the #182 Grimmas was talking about.
  9. WHERE IS SCOTT STEINER? How high can he possibly go?
  10. It's pretty much posts like this that make people anti-lucha, just sayin'. Or anti-Flair if you change some words around Well at least after 2 years you've finally admitted it. It was a joke, and most things you claim others don't admit are based on your own willful ignorance and/or refusal to acknowledge what is right in front of you.

  13. Put it this way, he's a lucha guy and one of the board's most vocal anti-lucha guys had him at #40
  14. In many ways the AJ boys got completely shafted by BIGLAV, which is why I ended up calling an audible on Kobashi and Misawa.
  15. I've always said that Cota looks like The Master from 70s Doctor Who. Though I think that pic of him Grimmas posted is from 94ish, so that's closer to the Moore-era Bond villain.
  16. I think that's the thing, it's the SHEER LEVEL of the gap. Austin and Luger both have what, 4-6 genuinely great matches? Give or take. And then about 10-12 at the 3.75-4 sort of level (see V metric). Kobashi just ... MURDERS Bret in both the G and the V. It's not even a fair fight. The 10/10 he got from me in both actually puts Bret at an advantage because the real numbers should be something like Bret's 6 G rating plays Kobashi's 30. The caps were actually an advantage to "input" candidates like Bret.
  17. 189 - Mocho Cota 188 - Ivan Koloff 6th and 7th gone. A cold day. A sad day.
  18. I obviously meant at their peak in the 1960s.

  20. Well that and "because he's Steve Austin".
  21. I don't entirely agree, at his 88-90 peak Luger was a very good wrestler, not just carryable but actively good. The reason for ranking Austin over him would be because Luger falls off a cliff after 91.
  22. Just started Part 2 and LOVE the idea of making Matt and Stacey take their medicine!
  23. It has since been discovered my rating was ***3/4 ... memory never my strong point.
  24. Was he related to El Dandy? Could be his brother.
  25. Here you go: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/31793-jvk-reviews-pimped-matches-from-late-90s-10s/&do=findComment&comment=5695623 Turns out it was 3.75 not 2.5 on the rating. Must have been Atzeca vs. Dandy I went **1/2 on.
