  1. I'm happy with the following WTBBP has and have never had ambitions for it to grow beyond what it is. I feel like we cater to a different audience from Lapsed Fan really. Listeners are self-selecting. I think they are more direct competitors of the main Place to Be show (Scott and Justin) rather than of Chad and me. From what I hear, they even have a Vince impression to rival Justin's. Not intended as a knock, it's just a different type of show from a different (and bigger) corner of the fandom.
  2. Thank you for all the memories Mark
  3. And who can forget this unforgettable moment! (Ted's finest moment in an otherwise pretty rubbish commentary career)
  4. Thank you for giving us all the moments.
  5. This was exactly what I was talking about. Perhaps not always the strongest or loudest, but always great audio on his and absolutely no one was better at *using* the chop rather than just throwing it out there for the sake of it. Such a brilliantly organic and smart worker. Can throw 10 chops in one match and each one will be in a different context and carry a different meaning. Little 10-year old Low Ki never understood that, I reckon. There's also the one he throws just before the beg off, with the hope draining out of his face. Brilliant spot to feed a babyface comeback.
  6. I find the way Flair does chops more satisfying than a lot of other guys who do them. He really lets them sink in. I can't remember which pod it was we talked about it, but also the different ways he uses the chop in a match -- psych out, mind game, punishment, humilation, declaration of superiority, mechanism to take breath from opponent, desparation move -- he's the master to me. Probably Kobashi #2 just cos I can watch those youtube clips all bloody day.
  7. I think 00s US choppers should be banned on this basis. Especially Roderick Strong.
  8. We don't know yet, it's all speculation. We don't know how the list is going to go and I don't see Flair necessarily being "the guy" for all the Undertaker and HBK voters. We can't really tell can we. Just wanted to head off the possible claim long, long before we get there.
  9. Believe it or not, I'd want to bring Lex Luger into this conversation. His just looks so damn perfect. Sexy Lexy.
  10. Me too. And honestly, that's so lame if that's the case (not Flair winning, although it is in a way, but Flair winning because of this). Just occurred to me that the idea of X amount of anonymous voters helping to see him over the line is quite a fitting tribute to his career.
  11. Actually, it's a pre-emptive strike. I thought you might be able to appreciate the psychology. Also, here are the "stirrings" of that narrative being written I was referring to: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/33866-reactions-to-the-honorable-mention-list-part-3/page-53&do=findComment&comment=5744249
  12. One of the true pioneers of gif wrestling.
  13. I don't know what you are asking. Well, I guess that's only fair because I don't really understand what you mean when you're saying that here. Do you think people are just manufacturing criticism of Flair for the hell of it? Do you really think it's out of bounds to acknowledge that Flair has a great deal of visibility that would generally help him (and other Big Names, to be fair) with a larger voting population? The point was that we can see the narrative being written in order "to account" for the placement -- and remember, we still don't know for sure -- but the point is that he would have done darn well on a list done by just core regular PWO board members. So it is "disingenuous" in the sense that the narrative ("All these extra voters = Flair wins") doesn't reflect or recognise the fact that there are a lot of us here who had him #1 or top 5. It was starting to be talked about like Kurt Angle ranking or something like that, as a quirk of having 152 voters and "mainstream-erizing" the list. If that is the narrative being pushed, it is "disingenuous". I looked up the word just for good measure and stand by this usage.
  14. My mental image of OJ.
  15. I don't know what you are asking.
  16. Charles, would you like a job as a spin doctor? You do an excellent job of condensing what I think into handy soundbites and succinct slogans!
  17. And yet you still hate on Dory who throws such a fucking swank one.
  18. I will leave people to make lists. I will simply picture some contenders here.
  19. JESUS CHRIST! Fucking awesome, LOL I can't wait to blast through 00s Kobashi! Amazing. So fucking stupid, but AMAZING.
  20. Andre had a long history of being un-cooperative with guys who pissed him off or who he didn't like for whatever reason. I don't think many people who have been following wrestling for any amount of time -- by which I mean heard more than 4-5 shoots interviews with guys from that era -- seriously have an image of Andre as a gentle giant.
  21. I was really shocked that Low Ki ranked as high as he did, and I say that as a fan of his work in early ROH, I never would have guessed he had the body of work to rank anywhere near that high. He is not on my list. But hey, I guess some people saw things I didn't, in terms of footage and longevity. Also + 1 points for the usage of the phrase "self-serious ponce." If I regret something massively, it is ranking Low Ki. Why? Highly skilled worker with several notable peaks and great matches 15 years apart. Unique aura in his context. He was a really easy pick for me. He's someone I can admire / appreciate while having basically zero personal connection with anything he does. He might as well be a robot or a computer game character. I really have no fondness for the era or type of wrestling he represents. He is a poster-boy for inauthentic wrestling. I didn't use my list to make any grand statements, I used it to try to accurately reflect the 100 GWEs as I see it. Low Ki is one of several workers I have a deep personal loathing for who made it on my list.
  22. Can I post this again please? I've become addicted to that clip!

I wish I'd called more audibles to intervene in BIGLAV findings. 2. I wish I'd been more selfishly personal and cynically tactical in pushing my own agendas, instead of producing a list that was "fair". Sting, Low Ki, Inoki, Chris Jericho, HBK -- these fucks didn't need my votes. Bruno Sammartino did. I could have pushed Dory into the top 100 also with a higher finish. I could have high-balled Pat Patterson. These are the regrets of someone who treated the idea of doing a GWE list with too much respect ... respect it probably never warranted. 3. I regret ranking a single guy whose career started after 1990. Regrets on the rankings: 1. Yatsu at #172 is criminal. Can't get over that. 2. Was a shame Dory couldn't make it. 3. I am surprised Steve Grey didn't make it despite a lot of vocal support. 4. Pat Patterson on 39 ballots is something I hope I played a small part in, but I wish it could have been more 5. I am disappointed at the number of "generic WWE" 00s guys who are going to end up in the top 100. The Takers and the Angles. Disappointed more because I feel like A. It isn't very characteristic of the PWO I've known for the past 4-5 years, and B. it's going to be something used to try to denigrate the overall voter-base when the main man Ric Flair finishes in the top 2. I feel like Angle, in particular, making it is seriously going to damage the credibility of the list WITHIN the board, although outside of the board I suspect the reverse will be true (if anything, they will wonder why he's so low). Things I'm pleased about 1. Jack Brisco made the top 100. Again, I hope I played a small part in that. 2. Bob Backlund made the top 100. This pleases me more for my fellow Titans, but I ranked him too. 3. Ted made the top 100. 4. Harley Race made the top 100. 5. Jim Breaks made the top 100. oh and 6. HASE!
  25. Not sure. I've read snippets here and there of some of you talking him up. Just not my cup of tea I guess. Who knows maybe I can be swayed by the time 2026 comes around . Just to give you the cliffs: Some of us felt that the idea that Andre was great in his peak is a little over-stated because almost all his best performances come away from New York. He consistently dogs it at MSG or in Philly. And yet has ****+ matches in Houston and Japan, and sprited performances elsewhere (one in Detroit springs to mind). I still ranked Andre because he was unique, played his role to perfection, and because when he was on, he was really on, but it's not a ranking that is blind to some of Andre's flaws. I don't believe people who claim to really value consistency -- for example -- should be ranking him.
