Has anyone been uploading these to youtube? All ESPN Classic over here used to show was highlights of football matches from the 2005/06 season.

Hahaha! D.O.A. is probably the best comparison I've read so far. It's like sitting through The Harris Bros at their shittiest worst.

Where did you play though? It's worth noting Rugby is taken tremendously seriously here in Wales and we're playing full contact by the age of 10 and encouraged into gyms to build strength for the game not long after that age. Especially in the shoulders, neck and legs if you're a forward like I was. It's not strange to see people playing back row to be nearly 6' and 14st of muscle by 14 or 15. If you even look at the relatively low levels I play you don't see any/many Dick Murdoch bodies anymore. -

Maybe not, but Sidebottom has a point. A load of people I play/have played Rugby with do have similar physiques just from nailing the Gym. It's almost the Welsh National Physique these days. -
He probably will need to get some more talent, but if that's the case personally I'd be looking for people with plenty of experience of working Mountevans rules. People from Premier and the like. I don't think it needs too big a roster at this juncture really. Skeleton for the first taping to iron out any kinks. Lister and Rob Brazier are probably going to be the ones to ask here. Here's the LDN Wrestling press release.
-
Doubt it, Haskins doesn't work for them currently if I remember correctly. It's an LDN production, so check out their roster on their website. That'll probably be the roster for the taping.

It's an LDN show run by Sanjay Bagga who does more shows than anyone not called Brian Dixon around the UK. He's made a few enemies along the way but I like him personally as he's always worked his cock off as a promoter. Puts on a family friendly show, runs pretty much all over the UK now, although Wales is mainly ran by the company I work occasionally for and Bagga just does the odd show there, but they've a good relationship Afaik. So yeah, the reaction amongst most of the Britwres scene has been one of anger as they'd probably rather Alex bastard Shane ran it and they'd get on the cards. In Britwres people would rather everyone has nothing than someone has something. Personally I hope he does well.

Yeah, that push for Ohno is more than a little OTT for me. -
Were the Death of the Territories in the 80s Inevitable?
ButchReedMark replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
A lot of it breeds from the collapse of ITV Digital and ownership wanting and stripping clubs assets (As a Wrexham supporter that's especially a sore point for me), to be honest. As you get lower down the league pyramid it's more for those reasons than overspending in the transfer market, in my opinion. -
I really enjoyed it, somewhat embarrassingly. John Cena is like the world's nicest bloke.

About time he was! Duw. There's an interesting article about NFL's TV popularity in the UK in the 80s HERE. -

NFL was very big here in the UK in the 80s. It's nowhere near a new phenomenon. It had far more coverage on terrestrial TV, would be covered on The Channel Four Daily breakfast news vehicle, had documentaries like Max Boyce meets The Dallas Cowboys, and William Perry was a household name. NFL being big here is nothing new. Arugably bigger in the mid 80s when it had so much traction on Channel 4 after Jeremy Isaacs brought it in. -
The 2006 return of Henry Godwinn on a developmental contract is one that shocked and confused me at the time.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?

He's also said this. -
Ryback really isn't the Big Show, is he? Bryan vs Cesaro is a real MOTYC for me though. Wonderful stuff. Absolutely wonderful. Part of me is somewhat worried that Bryan was set up to fail in the ratings somewhat by having to carry the last 45 minutes of the show, but that was a fucking herculean performance.

My fucking lord, CURTIS HUGHES appeared on HLN a couple of weeks ago to inform children how to pro wrestle safely! -
I think Jim Powers cam from when I was a kid in 91 or so, and he'd always look good against pushed talent on PTW, and I always thought as a massive markish child "IF HE JUST GETS THAT ONE WIN, HE'LL BE SORTED!", then a year later he started coming out to "Crank it Up" again which made it even worse for me. Still waiting for that one win.
-
Jim Powers. I have no understanding of why, but my love of Jim Powers knows no bounds.

This is around the point when WCW subjected the UK to one of the worst tours of all time, including one show with a Harris Brothers vs Marmalukes main event in front of 16,000 people. At one of the shows Bagwell came out at the end and said " You don't get Goldberg and you didn't get Sting, but you've got Buff and he's the stuff". Which went over about as well as you could expect.

Doug Williams looks in wonderful shape. I mean there's no reason why he shouldn't, but he looks tremendous there.

Preston City Wrestling is currently the "hot thing" in Britwres. They get about 800 for shows, do occasional weekenders with imports as well. Chris Masters does them a lot import wise, as does Goldust, and The Steiners are their tag team champions. Loads of British talent as well. Noam Dar's one of their top guys. Personally I do a fair bit of work with Welsh Wrestling, and we also put on solid shows to a few hundred around the principality. No imports, but talents like James Mason who works most shows, Matt Vaughan, and Wild Boar Hitchman. I think Mark Haskins is doing a bit now as well. It's more of an All-Star style promotion, that's what I like from my wrestling.

Pah, I was offered two million pounds to read the site. Not dollars, pounds. I didn't though, because I'm cool like that and exercise in the mornings by doing a Scrooge McDuck swim.

Mick McManus has passed away. Shame. Even getting coverage on the Sky News ticker.
