Best Worker in the World in the '80's
ButchReedMark replied to MikeCampbell's topic in Megathread archive
It's not that simple over here at all. The English aren't that myopic, and there was access to Batistuta on Network TV every Sunday afternoon watched by millions. -
I alluded to the EWF promotion in the 1990 hype thread which was on TV in Europe during that period. I'd love to find some footage of it. I believe it was French based.
-
How long was Bill Mercer around for? I imagine Bob Caudle's put a shift in as well.
-
Being Welsh I got more than my fill of Reslo (watching Kung Fu spend ten minutes massaging Mick [Or "Mic" in Welsh] McManus' balls with his feet for 10 minutes under the auspices of "comedy"), but in 1990 or so some promotion from France or somewhere started up on Satellite with Tony St. Clair, Danny Boy Collins and the like emanating from France. The champion was Flesh Gorden, and even as a 6 year old I knew he was booking the fucker.

Being in North Wales by Wrexham we got Midlands TV (Central), which was wrestling gold in 1990 onwards, you'd have got HTV I imagine, and they used the Granada night time feed which would probably explain it.
-
Worldwide was on Saturday Afternoons from about 1992 until late 1995 for the majority of the ITV network with heavy editing unless you were in the Granada region and another couple of regions which received Worldwide in the early hours on a Wednesday or Thursday before American Gladiators under the name of Superstars of Wrestling in advertising. And prior to that a lot of the network shown Pro (which annoyingly wasn't at the same pace as Power Hour on satellite). Central also showed Dusty Rhodes' Florida project with DDP murdering commentary, Jackie Pallo's WAW, and some old Crockett tapes. Other regions showed the Australian WWF Wrestling Challenge. Until 1991 or so there was wrestling everywhere, especially if you had a satellite dish. The ladies channel Lifestyle was showing 1982 WCCW tapes for one.
-
Now I hear that I regret my father taping over Pro every week with the new one when they were shown on network TV in the UK at 2am or so back then. Fantastic commentary team.
-
Is there any of the Arn Anderson vs Terry Taylor TV title series from Pro on it? The more Pro the better, I could listen to the announce team of Lance Russell with Michael Hayes and Jim Garvin all day.
-
In August 1999 he was running out to save Sting from beatdowns as well. I don't know if he was a face at the time though. I don't think he'd turned face. It was all very confusing.

Team "Fuck me ragged, his head's massive!" - Boris Zhukov, Pogo The Clown, Albert.
-
Yeah. I think one of his career highlights is probably doing the NWA Transatlantic Wrestling Challenge on ITV over here in 2000.

While this DOUBLE FIST PUMP is good... Him pretty much giving Bam Bam's grave a bollocking is even better. -

I don't think that's WrestleReunion, as the male is an annoying arsehole from Barrow-in-Furness near Preston who posts on the UKFF. It'll be the Wrestleslam convention from 2008, I'd imagine. -
*Grumble* Wish I lived in the states. Although we did get loads of wrestling on Satellite in the UK in about 1990, loads of it were tapes from the 80s as well so that was pretty good.
-
Is from 8PM onwards that Joe Pedicino Superstars of Wrestling thing?
-
Al Snow announced Velocity, Heat and also did Raw for a very short time.
-
Probably not. The UKFF is an odd forum. I do love it so, though.

Didn't even have to log in, I know I didn't log in anyway. If you just went to http://www.rohwrestling.com/ppv/my-ppv/latest it was streamed for all to see for free. That's how I watched it. F4W even put the link on the front page. -

Well, unless you count the fact it was available for free to everyone who went to the website. -
It's not the best WWF/E tag team match in history but US Express (Spivey) vs Hart Foundation is a fun match. I especially enjoyed the finish.

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread

Yeah, on the most recent roundtable he was miserable as sin. DDP was arguing with him within the first 8 minutes on the subject of Arquette. -
I've always found the stock music in WCW really interesting. Half the time the best music would go to a scrub like Jerry Flynn (fantastic theme), whereas the folk higher up the card would get some real dreck. Stunning Steve Austin's first theme being a prime example.

The Armstrong's music is the mightiest music to ever grace wrestling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDOcvk7CrDU

In North Wales to twat someone in the face is to hit them in the face. I assumed it'd be the same everywhere.
