  1. I'm nominating Killer Khan http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/20932-80s-catchup-thread/page-2&do=findComment&comment=5578182 http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/19311-bam-bam-bigelow/page-2&do=findComment&comment=5536487 http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/2662-thoughts-on-some-of-the-dvdvr-matches/?view=findpost&p=5437016
  2. I think it would be fair to say that Davey also lacked the brains (whether that be by nature, drugs or a combination of the two).
  3. How much is that $50 million really worth after taxes?
  4. But when it comes to comparing the best days ever, there's that other guy who had almost the exact same day minus the foot injury and plus he met his future wife. Man, that's got to be THE best day ever.
  5. Possibly, you might be a pessimist and dwell too much on the foot.
  6. Even the people who are heavily criticizing Flair are most likely still going to have him in their top ten so there's no reason to get too worked up about it. When factoring out who is number one, competition gets really tight and you've got to take every thing into account. To the people who brought up Michael Jordan; yeah the Wizards years aren't counted against him, but if Jordan had spent 12+ years of his career playing with them then they definitely would have.
  7. People forget that he debuted in 1984. When you realize that he had a 30 year career with so little meat, there's no reason he should make anyone's list.
  8. I think i lot of younger people, myself included don't have as much of an appreciation for the R n R because we didn't see them when theywere wrestling and later on the WWE didn't put a lot of their stuff on dvd. A lot of their stuff isn't super easy to find. At the same time you hear about the midnights from guys like cornette so they're more on your radar, even though they actually broke up first. People like to cheer heels more nowadays too and so the R n R come off as goofs for being likable clean cut baby faces and not 'cool' enough. Plus the Midnights are in the WON HoF and the R n R aren't, so people dismiss them.
  9. High spot, high spot, 2.9 count, high spot, 2.9 count, high spot, "Come on, baby," high spot, 2.9 count, high spot, high spot, 2.9 count, high spot, "Come on baby," high spot, high, spot, high spot, 2.9 count, high spot, 2.9 count, high spot, 2.9 count., high spot, finish. If this is one of the touted matches on Jericho's resume then I'd hate to see the matches that aren't. Their March match from the same year was better but only because it was less bad.
  10. Dylan is spot on with that Embry/Invader match. That match is awesome. Right up there with Hansen/Funk and that is one of my favorite match-ups ever. Embry even gives Invader a piledriver onto a table and its only 1986. Everyone who is voting in this should check that match out and then start looking into the rest of both guys' work.
  11. Perfect is very disappointing in 93. Outside of a few good matches that have already been mentioned, he never even seems to try. Jannetty, Doink, Bret, Luger, Waltman, Yoko and possibly even Virgil look better than him that year. He has more opportunities than a lot of other guys too and even when he does try, he doesn't perform any better than guys mentioned. The Heavenly Bodies have a better WWF 93 than he does from an in-ring standpoint.
  12. Knowing your limitations is very important to being a good wrestler. Jericho is the best example of someone who didn't know his. He didn't even understand his own physical and athletic limitations. Loss has talked about Shawn Michaels trying to emulate Flair without understanding what actually made him great. Well Jericho is someone who emulated Michaels without understanding what made him good.
  13. I will have probably have Jumbo in the top 20 and I'm not really a fan of his at all. He's someone I'd really rather not watch but I can't deny how good he is. Flair is definitely not even close to being one of my favorites but I don't see how he could up outside of my top 15. On the other hand 3 of my absolute favorite guys are Tenryu, Hansen & Funk and I see them all as viable number 1s.
  14. Tenryu took a decade and he'll probably make my top 5.
  15. One thing Choshu has in his favor is that he always made big matches feel BIG. He brought the intensity and charisma needed to make things feel important.

    CM Punk

Consistency is a big factor when it comes to rating a guy's career. We're not just looking at their best stuff and that's the biggest hurdle for Punk so i don't think he will wind up on my list.
  17. No way in hell. One of the most overrated wrestlers of all time. You always hear how certain guys "got it" and i would say Jericho was the exact opposite. The anti-Barry Windham.
  18. OOPS. I've only seen the 2/08/92 Honaga match and I was getting that mixed up with the Sano match from 1/31/90. That was the match that I thought was just back and forth. I still don't think that the Honaga match I've seen or the Sano match I've seen or the El Samurai matches I've seen were that impressive. None of them were bad, they were good, but nothing special.
  19. Expanding a little on why I don't find Liger that appealing: The Honaga & El Samurai matches consist of two guys just trading moves. They just go back and forth like its an exhibition.
  20. As far as expectation vs my perception goes, Liger is a really disappointing wrestler for me. All of the "great" stuff I've seen has been very underwhelming. He's someone I just don't get the praise for from what I've seen. I haven't seen any of his 80s work or a whole lot of his work in general, but some of his highly touted matches from the early 90s have been very pedantic. His match with KUSHIDA from this year's BOSJ was awesome though and I think his match against Pillman from Superbrawl 92 has aged well for the most part. I like that match a lot more than his Honaga & El Samurai matches from that year.
  21. The matches I've liked from him that stood out were with Casas from UWF on 6/7/90 and with Regal from WCW Slamboree 97. They were good in spite of him though, and I feel like he actively prevented them from being very good.
  22. Amen. Ultimo is one of those guys you think is awesome as a kid because he does really flashy high flying. Then you grow up and realize he's trash.
  23. That is a great point. I haven't seen a lot of Rose yet, mainly just some of his stuff against scrubs in the late 70s, but they've been pretty good matches despite being with shit opponents. I'm looking forward to seeing his best work.
  24. Right now my number one is most likely Funk or Hansen. One thing I really like about Funk is that he embodied the mindset of giving back and knowing what's important for the business. Terry was always willing to make other people look great and not in a superficial way either. He isone of the all time great sellers and while I don't think he has the best punch, I think he might be the greatest brawler ever too.
  25. Fujiwara is someone that took me awhile to really appreciate. I watched a few of his matches and thought he was good, but didn't get the possible GOAT talk. Then I was listening to a podcast (don't remember which one) and Phil Schneider said that when something happens in a match with Fujiwara that becomes the focus of the match, ie. blood. Somehow that made everything click and in the last two weeks I've been watching as much Fujiwara as possible and loving most of it. I think he's someone you have to get a feel for to really appreciate and people owe it to themselves to do so because he's definitely a GOAT contender and he's my favorite shoot style wrestler. He's also one of the few guys along with Terry Funk who I can watch and watch and watch and not get tired of.
