    His early career is inevitably compared to Jumbo, but consider that Jumbo was immediately in there with the best in the world. The Funks, Bockwinkel, Brisco, Robinson, etc. And those matches were recorded for posterity and positioned as main events. How many matches does Tenryu have at the same point in his career with these guys and how many are on tape? I don't want to shit on Jumbo but how much of his perceived greatness right off the bat is do to push and who he was working with at that time? On the other hand, how many matches does Jumbo have in his prime with lower card or relatively solid at best workers that are as good as the stuff Tenryu has with that sort of opponent? I can't think of a Jumbo match that's better than his opponent. I can think of a lot that were disappointing. And I know the footage is more important than wrestlers' perspectives, but Terry Funk mentions in his book that he always saw Tenryu as the better worker. Who am I to argue with the GOAT?

    I've seen good Charlotte matches followed by matches where she looked completely lost in the ring. Too inconsistent for me to give serious consideration at this point, especially considering how many of her peers are more deserving and won't necessarily make my list. You could name a hundred current workers better than her right now. With that said, she's had some great matches.

    Someone who knows more than me should nominate Mayu Iwatani. Admittedly I'm not super familiar with her resume, but in my eyes she's clearly the best worker currently in Stardom and the ace of the promotion.

    What the fuck is this?? Hogans completely unhinged at this point. "I've got a big secret! But I'm not gonna tell you! I know how to get Flair back in the ring so I can take his fake world title!" Why does he care about a fake title belt? I wouldn't be coked out on the beach running around like a giddy kid if someone injured me on purpose like that. Hogan should be focused on getting his revenge. Exactly. This makes zero fucking sense.

    Wow. I always liked the Express. I always liked Armstrong and referee Mark Curtis too. Disgusted to see them take part in this racist conspiracy to rob the Gangstas of the title win here. It really is fun to look at the match and the angle from the perspective of New Jack. I mean is he wrong with most of the stuff he's said? Can you blame him? Les Thatcher's commentary and Armstrong and Morton's promo are full of undertones and over explanation that it actually does come off as conspiracy, although I don't think they're trying to go for that.

    This is so frustrating. Yeah, the match was good, but in context everything was wrong. First of all, it took them too long to transition to Flairs segment. Hogan is supposed to be in the hospital. When Flair does take control it's not decisive enough. He should have been more vicious and dominant. Their first match was hyped as the two best wrestlers in the world finally matching up, but they never treat Flair like that in the booking. If Flair is that good and can't handle his own against a crippled Hogan even in the slightest then who can??? They had so much to gain by doing things differently than how they had been done for the last 10 years with Hogan. So what if Flair won the title back in the rematch?? Hogan had an excuse and it establishes Flair as his equal. It would be different and fresh. They'rehrowing everything away. Seriously why watch the rest of the movie, the hero is invincible. Inoki and Baba jobbed more than Hogan. Yeah I know he lost, but not really. Not in a way that mattered to the botttom line.

    Holy crap. Arn is off the charts great here. He's so cerebral and confident and purposeful on the mic. Hogan turning heel has brought out the best in a lot of guy's promos that aren't normally that strong in content or delivery, like Sting and the Nasty Boys. Anderson is probably the best talker in wrestling and delivers an all-time great interview.

    Saito was one of those guys who could excel at any role. In an era where wrestling was much less homogeneous than it is today Saito was able to adjust his style and get over in regions and promotions where many of his more renowned Japanese contemporaries failed. What made him succeed in the US was different than what madr him succeed in Japan. He was incredibly versatile. Great offense, great selling, great tag wrestler, great stooge and so much more. One of my all time favorites.

    I enjoyed this but I wouldn't call it good. I think it's a case of having extremely low expectations and worshipping Terry Funk. There are some great visuals and ideas with the barbed wire in the latter parts of the match. But most of the work is soft and underwhelming. Public Enemy are the Bruiser Brody's of ECW. I've never seen them have a good match in ECW but I like some of their WCW stuff in 96. Being forced to work a more traditional style benefitted them cause they really weren't good at the fmw-lite brawls and they have some decent kamikaze/double team spots.

    Wow. Only 2 years into his career and New Jack is this good on the mic??? Two promos down and New Jack is already the runaway winner for best at interviews in 1994.

    I'm with Loss on the giant swing. It's just cute bullshit. In fact I'm there with Hase's whole act. I used to like the guy. I'm tired of his obligatory submission shine sequences. They're dull and there's not much struggle. In New Japan i want to see rugged mat work a la Fujinami and Choshu. They can get basic holds over as important not just boring fluff. Is there a more boring technician whose mat-game is as integral a part of what they do as Hase? Pete is right on the money with Koshinaka. Brawls and multi-mans(Tenryu). Why is he still trying to hit people with his flying butt attack when everyone around him is trying to drop people on their heads?? Again, just cute bullshit, and this isn't the place for that. Hase pulled out a top rope Ura-nage and it wasn't the finish. I hate when wrestlers waste super-powered versions of their finishers. The match was OK but I've liked everything else from the G1 better so far.

    This is mediocre. Its a spotfest with no purpose, nothing to tie the spots together in an interesting or meaningful way. There is no struggle. No semblance of an actual athletic competition. It's just two masked men taking turns at sloppy acrobatics. I wish it was bad so I would have something to critique, but Ultimo Dragon's ambitions are too low for that. I put the blame on him because Sasuke has shown that he's willing to put in the work against other opponents. In the finishing stretch Dragon sells the near falls like he's relaxing on the beach. Can anyone point out one thing Dragon does well beyond athletic highspots? That's a legitimate question. And what is with Dragon doing the Flair flop off of a slap at the beginning? That didn't go anywhere.

    90s All Japan is best known for the long, epic-style main events and I love when we get to see something different from their top guys like we do here with Kawada. Takayama is still the former UWFi guy here and not the bad ass main-eventer he would become. This is a sub seven minute slug fest with a fair amount of stalling, so we get staggered bits of sustained violence and intensity. Takayama shows that he can hang with Kawada and possibly beat him if they go toe-to-toe so Kawada does the smart thing and bails out of the ring and goes for a stroll. When Takayama decides to come after him, Kawada dives back in the ring and takes the tactical advantage and goes to work on Takayama before finishing him with KO. This reminds me of the type of match Genichiro Tenryu was so great at having with undercard guys that you knew stood no chance against him, but not as dramatic.

    Its a follow to the real life George Costanza -- Larry David playing a fictional version of himself. My wife feels the same way due to the high cringe levels of the situations Larry finds himself involved in. Admittedly the show does get old by the 4th-5th season. It starts to feel more and more forced and almost obnoxious at times with how ridiculous and self-absorbed Larry David gets, but there's still some good stuff there.
