This is interesting to me because for the first time ever I'm watching old WWWF. I started in 1975 and am on 1980. Dusty was over way more than I ever figured he could have been up north, but I agree with jdw, he couldn't have done it for as long as Backlund did and I agree that there's no one (that I've seen) that could've. I mean, technically, Backlund didn't succeed at it either. It was just a serviceable run as champion. The crazy part is how long they let it go on. They coulda abandoned ship around late 79 - 80 because there were plenty of heels that could've held it for a bit to give it to someone mentioned like DiBiase (who is popping up on some of the stuff I'm watching now in 80 and looks absolutely fantastic) or Steamboat (also showing up albeit as a tag team guy). Their patience worked out for them though because when they did get it to a intermediary champion it was to get the belt on the person that would change their fortunes so I guess there wouldn't be too much "what ifs" from the McMahon's financial perspective. Butterfly effect etc.

[1991-12-08-NJPW] Hiroshi Hase vs Tiger Jeet Singh (Island Death)
BackToBionic replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Inoki vs Singh was scheduled for the Dome show but Hase went to parliament and "demanded" to wrestle Inoki. Inoki said he'd have to get Singh out of the match so Hase went to Canada to challenge him which led to this match.- 12 replies

When did they start dimming the lights during Taker's entrance? They didn't here and I guess I never noticed that they didn't do that from the start.- 15 replies

[1991-11-30-WWF-MSG, NY] The Rockers vs Nasty Boys
BackToBionic replied to Loss's topic in November 1991
Shawn was injured during that time and I think they even gave their notice during the summer too. Fun trivia: Shane Douglas, of all people, took Shawn's place in the Rockers on house shows during the summer because school was out and thus he could wrestle. -
[1991-11-30-WWF-MSG, NY] Ric Flair vs Hulk Hogan

Sheesh, they weren't even trying with that "digitization". I bet the casual fans were baffled as to why Flair was proudly displaying his tag belt. -

[1991-11-23-WWF-Superstars] Randy Savage and Jake Roberts

I do remember him saying that but in Jake's AOW podcast he basically admitted he killed some of the snakes ("they commited suicide by smashing their heads against the wall" as he put it) so this snake which was baited into becoming aggressive was probably doomed either way.- 24 replies

With that get-up the first thing Tony thinks is that it may be someone from Japan but the first thing I think is that it's the Dragon Master from USWA. I love those tag belts, btw. They kept those around for a while (until the side plate fell off). This is a really, really good match for sure.

[1991-11-16-USWA-Memphis TV] The Spirit of America vignette
BackToBionic replied to Loss's topic in November 1991
Eric Embry gives the reaction of everyone watching. God he's so awesome. The guy playing SOA was in one of my favourite USWA segments. When he was unmasked by Bull Pain in a really weird moment the announcers were like THAT'S HE-MAN RANDY LEWIS!!! even though no one had a clue who he was they kept repeating it with the same amount of conviction as you would say "That's Bill Clinton!" if you saw our ex-president walking down the street. -
[1991-10-27-WCW-Halloween Havoc] WCW Phantom and Paul E. Dangerously

For years, my only knowledge of this angle was through the Marvel comics. I have to say The Ghoul costume was better than The Phantom.- 11 replies

I like that this match was the 2nd most hyped match on the card but they had to put it on first cos it was probably such a clusterfuck to construct. And oh, that switch.

[1991-09-28-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Barry Windham
BackToBionic replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
I just watched his 1991 Timeline and he repeats a few times that he was next in line had Flair not left. Sean kinda catches him off-guard by saying something like "Well why didn't they give it to you later in the year?" The only thing I remember reading in WON was that when it was 100% clear Flair was gone they tried to get him to come in and drop the belt to Windham but it seemed like that was just as a way to get it to Luger at the Bash without doing the vacancy.- 7 replies

It was whoever got pinned twice lost his hair. I KIND OF get why Konnan sat out the 2nd fall (so that the match would go more than 2 falls and I guess since logically the other two guys would just gang up on him to save themselves) it still is kind of unfair that he got the rest period. The way the rules were set up, the person that lost the first fall was in a better spot than the guy who lost the 2nd fall cos that guy would have to work the entire match.

He must have really saved as well as everyone says. I believe him too. Randy just seemed to worship his dad which isn't hard to do as his dad sounded like a badass. I just know how cynical wrestling fans are and how quick they are to call guys carnies and only out for themselves so I was curious if anyone made that argument in this case.

This was actually three separate matches. There were 4 or 5 matches between the stretcher and the cage match and you can see the crowd is a bit smaller. I don't know if that makes it any better with the stips but at least it wasn't all done consecutively.

I had read about Leatherface for years in PWI and online without ever actually seeing him. I was sure he was gonna be just a guy in wrestling trunks and a weird Halloween mask given the USWA's record but it's not a bad get-up, all things considered. This video was pretty lame though.
