[1991-01-05-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Lawrence Taylor
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1991
Jim Ross with Lawrence Taylor at LT’s restaurant. They are hyping show at Meadowlands with Taylor in Luger’s corner in a football match. To win you must knock your opponent out of the ring. Sounds like a Sumo type match.- 8 replies

[1991-01-05-WCW-Saturday Night] Brian Pillman vs Rip Rogers
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1991
Of course Pillman goes for a pinfall attempt in the first 30 seconds. Now I’m confused as they both start doing pinfall attempts on each other and the referee is counting them. Oh! Rogers with the double ax handle off the top rope to the outside and Pillman completely takes out the barricade. The referee seems to not know the rules. Pillman with flying clothesline on top of the entrance way! Pinfall nonsense aside this was pretty good match with some big moves. Here’s your chance to participate in WCW sexiest wrestler poll. Michaels Hayes?- 17 replies

[1991-01-05-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Rip Rogers
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1991
Paul Heyman mentions there will be no pinfall attempts in the first five minutes. Rogers talks about being the marathon man and there will be no quick fluke pinfall wins by Pillman.- 7 replies

[1991-01-05-WWF-Superstars] Ted DiBiase & Virgil vignette
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1991
DiBiase continues his feud against Texas. Ted stomps his hat in anger but gets his boots on dirty. Virgil is there to clean them off though. DiBiase is indeed great in this type of segment. -
[1991-01-05-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Hulk Hogan
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1991
Hogan is being pushed as the obvious favorite to win the Rumble again. Love talks about all of Hogan’s enemies who will be the Rumble. Earthquake being built as the nearest challenger. Hogan wants to be the number one draw in the Rumble. He said that too for the 90 Rumble. Love mentions Hogan’s friend Tugboat. Hogan didn’t really seem to be all that friendly when it came to Tugboat and saying he’d be the first one eliminated. Way to be friendly.- 11 replies

[1991-01-05-WWF-Superstars] Update: Royal Rumble update
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1991
Sgt. Slaughter versus Warrior for the title at Royal Rumble. Macho King will be in the Rumble itself but he says the Slaughter/Warrior match will be non title. Warrior is trying to not think about Savage with the focus on Slaughter. He’s got his Warriors to help him against Slaughter and the Iraqis. -
Larry Matysik's 50 Greatest Professional Wrestlers
Kevin Ridge replied to Al's topic in Megathread archive
There was no love between the St Louis Purist and Memphis. John Anyone care to give the story on these issues? Orton over Lawler on his list seems a bit silly. I actually thought Larry would rank Brody much higher. -
It's tough to see WWE still reward him with a title shot at WrestleMania but I think it would be different if he was actually holding the belt like RVD was. Orton had issues leading into his match at WrestleMania 22 with Mysterio/Angle and he was kept in there.

Probably the Atlanta Thrashers Hall of Fame instead.

[1991-01-05-WCW-Power Hour] WNN with Gordon Solie
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1991
Sting wants Flair back in the ring. He is tired of Flair and others trying to take him out by trying to injure himself. Flair is more focused again and he’s ready to be the 7th time World Champion. Same from 1990.- 4 replies

Inoue spends much of the match going after Takahashi’s back. Where in the previous Joshi match on set they did some wasteful submissioin/mat work, it’s much better in this match as Inoue kept attacking Takahashi’s back. Takahashi barely looked like she would make the 20 count into ring at one point and seemed like she could barely walk. A gripe I would have is that she did that neck bridge kick out of a pinfall that would just put more strain on her own back. She also started working her own submissions that she shouldn’t have been able to with the way her back was for most of the match. Good match that kept me involved but I found myself enjoying the first half it more with Inoue in control.

Hokuto sits on Bull’s face when putting on a single leg lock. She lets up though and moves between different submissions moves. Bull gets a sharpshooter in the middle of the ring but lets up too. Don’t get the reasoning behind this when your opponent is nowhere near the ropes to release the hold. Bull has a good looking backdrop suplex. Hokuto did the four corner dropkicks good as it was physically taking a toll on her too after each one. Run in but referee refuses to count that. Kickouts of big moves towards the end. Got pretty good as match went on.

[1991-01-02-AJPW-New Year Giant Series] Stan Hansen vs Kenta Kobashi
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1991
Do not slap Stan Hansen in the face! He flips out on Kobashi by throwing one chair at him and then just smacking him multiple times with another. Brief mat work from there where things settle down a bit. But then it seemed like they went right to the finishing stretch with Kobashi going for the moonsault. Kobashi tries his best but Hansen too much in the end.- 17 replies

[1991-Monterrey] La Fiera vs Jerry Estrada (Chain)
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1991
The ring mat is all torn up. They take a few minutes before referee can chain them each at the wrist. Doesn’t seem to be one of those touch all four corners matches as they aren’t going for them. Big spill to the floor on a suplex attempt. Did not get the finish as both guys go down on the mat and the referee counts both of them at three. That's not a proper KO spot if only a count of three. Ref rules it a draw. I agree with the gritty type match comments and the poor finish.- 25 replies

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Got this already but haven't watch it yet. I enjoyed the first volume a lot and there is a lot of matches on new set I haven't seen. They pretty much avoid 2000-01 for the most part though. -
I would say very much so. Look how much they don't give a crap about the NHL as they don't have a television contract with them. NHL has some really top level players right now. But Jordan is a special athlete and I don't think ESPN is pushing him over current NBA players. It's his 50th birthday so it's a talking point reminding everyone how great he is and the big what if whether he could play in today's NBA. But after this it will be back to Lebron, Kobe, Durant, etc.

Wow, excellent work Pete to go into that much detail after plowing through the whole year. I like your Kendo pick for charisma as I would have totally overlooked him but agreed that the crowds just loved that guy. Compared to previous yearbooks I've struggled to really come up with my favorite match of the year. Could it actually be a Dandy match? I brought it up in my previous half year comment about watching this set after the 1994 year. Tough act to follow that year for me. I don't want to seem like I'm criticizing the match selection but I just found this year to not have the sure fire top level matches that will become my favorites and deserve repeated viewings. I found the WWF to be lousy in the ring and I'm the big WWF fan growing up so this ended up being a big negative. There was some good matches but nothing I consider great. Hogan/Earthquake probably ends up as being my favorite match for WWF. There was some great angles though and I enjoyed the Brother Love segments which developed a lot of the story lines. I was eager to see the whole Black Scorpion fall out and outside of some of the magic tricks that gave me a good laugh I found the angle to be pretty pathetic and the Starrcade match to be flat. But WCW did provide some great matches for the year though their booking didn't fully make sense at time. What I will take away from this year the most if the angles/promos. But it was also nice to see the beginnings/rises of guys like Austin and Kobashi.

Phil could have been a great jobber. This video feels terribly dated for 1990. Vanessa Williams also makes an appearance.

[1990-12-31-UWF-TV] Captain Lou's Corner: John Tolos

Albano will be in Brian Blair’s corner to keep an eye on John Tolos. Lots of yelling at each other. Yes, they probably should have mentioned Blair's opponent. Maybe Orton?- 5 replies

[1990-12-30-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Interview: Dusty & Dustin Rhodes
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
Dusty is a proud daddy next to his son Dustin. Younger Rhodes talking like his dad. Dusty says the bond between Virgil and DiBiase is paper thin. Good promo. -
[1990-12-29-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Arn Anderson vs Tom Zenk
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
Twenty minute time limit. That’s more reasonable. Zenk has a 45 match winning streak going. Arn looks to have a serious leg injury but he’s faking it to his advantage! Surprising result with Arn losing to Zenk cleanly after the dropkick. I feel like Pillman would have been more deserving of winning the title but I guess he didn't have a 45 match streak to warrant the belt. -
[1990-12-29-NWA-Pro] The Freebirds and Lance Russell discuss the year
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1990
Lance Russell and the Freebirds go over what has happened for them in 1990. Morton was a thorn early. Hidden video footage of the Freebirds staging the fans getting crazy for them. Garvin seemed like he was really cold the whole time. This segment was out of nowhere as far as their yearbook involvement. Seemed like Freebirds/Russell had some fun.
