  1. I liked the Rush versus Virus tag match too but actually preferred the other Lucha six man over it. Just found that one more fun. Picked it as my number one for the week over the Shield match. Not getting those Angle/Roode votes but if folks thought that was the best than okay by me.
  2. Just watched both Kobashi/Akiyama matches from 2000. Both were not as good as I remember. The August version will have a tough fight to stick in the top 100. The December match will still rank very well but I was thinking this was a top 10 match based off my memory of seeing over a decade ago. There dome match off memory again seemed much better.
  3. Has there ever been a spot where one guy went to throw salt/powder at his opponent being held from behind but the opponent ducked. However instead of the usual heel miscommunication spot the thrower puts the breaks on before releasing salt. The heels celebrate at their goodwill and exchange a high five but in the act of doing so the guy doing still has the salt/powder in his hand and throws it accidentally in his partner's face. I dreamt this last night but it felt very real. I thought maybe Memphis.
  4. Well that settles 19 pages of debate between Hogan and Ringwald.
  5. I want to see Jerry Lawler music videos set to all the James Bond soundtrack songs.
  6. Damn. I blasted through these matches today at work. Well, except Del Rio/Cara which I'm going to take a pass on. Much better selection of matches this week and tougher to pick number one so I'll hold off for now. Couple thoughts. I cannot believe Angle is still doing moonsaults off the top of the cage. Angle Slam a couple minutes in. Then the Ankle Lock a bit after. Multiple Germans. The only time he really sold anything was when he missed the moonsault but it led to a crummy sequence where he took forever to try to catch Roode from escaping the cage. Roode did the slowest crawl ever out the cage door. He was swimming in cement. Worst match of the bunch for me. Really enjoyed the Lucha matches this week. Dragon Lee, Pegasso & Star Jr. vs Ccancerbero, Hechicero and Raziel is one of those who the hell are all of these guys matches for me. But this was fun with some great double team moves and twisty submissions. Love that move, drawing a blank now. It is not a bow and arrow but one where you life guy up in air with your feet behind their knees. But they combine it with a neck breaker. Tecnicos had some botches but the Rudos looked good. Two weeks in and I continue to marvel at Casas. Blue Panther has no mask! Yeah, I'm out of the loop. Casas is a riot though to just watch. I loved that ballsy headbutt attempt off the middle ropes where he ends up eating Panthers' feet. Finish is what probable takes away from this being the clear number one for the week. WWE should totally adopt having six man tag matches on a regular basis like AJPW and Lucha do. About the best I've seen Cody look. He needs to steal all of Goldust's moves. They should not split that team up though. Cody does not have a high ceiling and teaming with Goldust is the way to go. Langston has the Ultimate Warrior offense down. I dislike the Disaster Kick by Cody but Reigns sold it great. Excellent finishing sequence. Wish match had a couple more minutes though.
  7. Listening to that awful HHH promo about Cena that was on show had me wondering what are the best HHH promos? Not those DX skits but actual memorable promos. Year 2000 was one of my favorite years for WWF. Easily the best year for Hunter. But by the end of the year I was starting to slowly turn on the guy by then. He kept beating up Angle (my guy) and them making him the person behind running over Austin was too much. He was already pushed so strongly as a heel the past year and they add the Austin scalp to him too? But he was still doing enough in the ring. But 2002 into 2003 was where he became unwatchable for me. Ugh, that HHH versus Undertaker match from King of the Ring 2002 is the worst. Hated the three stages of hell match with Michaels and then the Steiner matches. Credit for Scott to sticking by his guy HHH and participating in the show. HHH is a tough one to go to bat for. In the end, I agree mostly with Dylan's view point but I would consider Stephanie equally to Vince as far as who helped get HHH over more. Vince was the evil boss but Stephanie was managing Triple H and married to him during that whole storyline.
  8. Was a lot of fun to revisit this one. AJPW is the promotion of the year especially if you have watched their weekly TV for 93. They delivered the best high end matches and the Real World Tag League final is probably ends up as my match of the year. I found WWF to have a really fascinating year. Look at their PPVs. Royal Rumble had a decent undercard not entirely represented on yearbook but the Rumble itself was very poor. There was such a lack of depth and credible challengers and once Undertaker got eliminated by Giant Gonzalez the Rumble limped to the end. One of the weakest Rumbles. WrestleMania was a complete dud. The worst WrestleMania to me. The matches are average to poor with no stand outs in the card. The setting does not do it for me as your WrestleMania. The Hogan stuff at the end is garbage. King of the Ring is probably their best PPV of the year with Bret Hart delivering three good matches and Yoko squashing Hogan. The Bodies were part of the best matches on both Summerslam and Survivor Series. A tag team that should have been pushed more especially with the lack of quality tag teams in WWF once you get into 94. Doink was another guy who got jobbed out too much. Hart/Lawler was the feud of the year and you can expand that more into Lawler versus WWF as it also took place in Memphis. Raw debuted and felt so fresh. Also got some memorable and excellent TV matches during the year. I really loved the Bret versus Yoko cage match from MSG. It might be my favorite WWF match of the year! WCW was not very good. Cannot believe they get their guy Flair back and use him so poorly for most of the year. Awful WarGames, stupid over the top production segments and not enough good matches. Flair became a changed man though at end of the year as the confidence was back. WCW will really light it up for the first half of 94. I think if WCW had a stronger year and business was not down as much for the major North American groups that we would be looking back more fondly on the year of 93.
  9. Was watching most of the matches during work today. Damn, I really could have used a couple drinks to get through them. I am looking forward to the big main event of DeNucci versus Hogan! I'm sure it will be close to four stars at least. Cannot wait to listen to the podcast once I'm done.
  10. I guess I look at it that I would be surprised if guys did not improve upon going through the WWE system. There is the simple difference in years since they were in indies and just the additional experience they have gained. WWE does do a good job in reigning in the excessiveness of moves with their style. Safety in the ring matters so guys are not allowed to do escalted high risk moves through out a match to keep trying to get a pop. Less is more. They have a development system run by former wrestlers who provide coaching and feedback. When they make it up to WWE they now have more former wrestlers working as road agents to help them more. WWE also has a real slick TV production with mulitple cameras that can hide things. Imagine if these guys came up during the territory days where they get to work with a larger variety of wrestlers in different areas working working different styles? Territories faded away and there is so few places for new wrestlers to go and learn how to actually wrestle a match. WWE can mold guys who are talented enough to fit their style. If you enjoy that style you would give their current development system high marks.
  11. I did not see this until a few years ago and based off the DVDVR 90's results I thought it was a bit overated but still pretty good. Going throught the yearbooks does boost it up though. Flair returned to WCW and say through those awful Flair for the Gold segments. He's a good guy but still begging off Sting in their match. Poor matches with Rude. But then they let Flair go out and look strong as a face. Match with Sid where he was not backing down. Taking it right at Vader in the tag match from Saturday Night. Vader has been a monster in WCW and should dominate Flair. Even with his career on the line though you have Flair fighting back big. Loads of stiff chops and punches. The physical stuff from both guys is great. This was Flair fighting for his career and Vader doing all he could to be the man to end it. Post match stuff is really good too. There is loads of fire in Flair in the ring and with him promos during this period. He would go into early 94 still looking strong under Hogan showed up. This 4-5 month stretch is probably my favorite Flair on the 90s.
  12. I went with Cena versus Sandow as was match I enjoyed most of the three that I watched (didn't see NXT selection). Kinkaid/Americos was the first Indy match I've seen in a few years. Well it was not terrible. I did cringe when the play by play guy was talking about one of Kinkaid's multiple finishers when he conected on one. Like I was expecting the rest of the match to be multiper finishers. Yep, they were throwing a lot of moves at each other. Some of the earlier moves did not seem right as if they timing was off. They got better as went on though. I watched the full thing with my full focuse on it so I give them that as an accomplishment. Casas looks great for his age. For the Lucha match I found myself paying less attention except for when Casas was in there. Want to see more of him.
  13. First thing I thought when Rhodes got DQ in first fall was that he would not lose his title now since belt cannot change on a DQ. I guess if he were a heel they would have used that as an out. The crew decided to mess around with the lights during the match. Austin gets bloodied up. Two straight falls. Disappointing indeed.
  14. Gene and Flair on a road trip in a limo to the arena. We see Flair with his family first. No Fifi later on in match. Okerlund could be distracting in trying to overdo things. He didn't need to put the act on here.
  15. Great opening video showing clips and highlights of Flair's career before shifting into Vader just destroying guys in the ring.
  16. Undertaker starting work on the special extra large casket for Yokozuna. Taker even says Ho Ho Ho! Everyone in the holiday spirit. Bret Hart reminding us to not drink and drive during the holidays. Knowing is half the battle. Yo Joe!
  17. Funk has a weird piledriver where he does the falling back version but takes a few steps backwards before dropping down. Crowd screaming for blood which was annoying since both guys were brawling. Referee took a big bump off the table which led to a Sabu chant. Douglas and Sherri gets involved. The lights went off. I wonder if they missed the cue. Funk wins title back.
  18. Random location for an interview as they are by a fireplace in oversized chairs but they make it work. Tony is off to the side. Okerlund with a beverage. The setting does allow for a more low key interview from Flair. Really good in getting over the seriousness of Ric putting his career on the line and that this could be his last match.
  19. Mama Cornette has been offering plenty of money allowing Murdoch to live a nice lifestyle and buy a new home. He is coming for the Bullet though.
  20. Smother's hunting attire is no shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers. They kept mentioning him and golf. Would have been fun to see him on the course with the same attire of no shirt, jeans and sneakers.
  21. Bret and Owen have made up their differences just in time for the holidays. They will become a tag team and go after the belts at the Rumble. Owen says it will be both Bret and his year in 94.
  22. Man did Orlov miss big time with that kick attempt. Like by a good five feet.
  23. Jarrett should be happy with his country music gimmick. Yeah, they did introduce a lot of guys who had a vocation outside wrestling. There were so few new guys who were actually wresters.
  24. Jarrett has the Double J theme entrance and moniker in Memphis. Wanted to like this more with the amount that aired but still a good one. Jarrett hell turn is refreshing and he has fully embraced it with the stalling, getting on the mic and repeatedly insulting the fans. I thought Lawler was more of a passenger just going around in cruise control until he pulls down the strap. Jarrett pulls down his own strap and backs Lawler into the corner with punches. But then Jerry one ups him!
  25. No clue if this is what they were using in this particular match, i've seen diffrent variations in diffrent promotions but the classic British Rounds rules were Rounds last either 3 or 5 mins each Matches usually have 10, 15 or 20 rounds Short break after each round Matches are usually 2/3 falls The round ends after you score the fall so if you pin someone 30 seconds into the round the next round starts after that. No punching allowed If you get caught punching or doing anything else that's typically illegal in wrestling you get a public warning After 2 warnings you'll be disqualified the next time you break the rules No attacking the opponent while he's on the ground unless you go to the mat with him in the middle of applying a hold so for example Snapmaring a guy down and immediatly floating into a headlock = OK Body slamming a guy and stomping him = Not OK If you toss a guy down and don't follow it up with a hold the ref will start a 10 count for him to get back up May be missing one or 2 more rules but that's the gist of things Thanks for all that. Hopefully that helps me going forward on these matches.
