OUCH!! Which moves make you cringe when you see them?
Kevin Ridge replied to ajsmith_7's topic in Pro Wrestling
Speaking of flapjacks, Kikuchi took one of the most insane cringe worthy flapjacks in match against Furnas/Kroffat when he landed directly on the top of his head. -
Hold up! Now, first of all Superstar Sleeze is a turncoat! I'm sure you enjoyed Game 1 when the Tigers almost got a no hitter and all but the right team won in the end! Hope your dad beat you with a wiffle ball bat after that series. Should have been a loser leaves town match with Sleeze ending up in Detroit getting gouged by The Sheik every night. I'm totally partial to the WWF Titans shows but I do like you guys throwing yourselves into other territories. Great job by Kelly running the show. Parv who? I was so waiting for James to take on the Johnny role and start doing some impressions. Martin has that young baby face fire that is a welcome addition to these things. He needs to drop the Tigers fan act so not go heel on us. New to Portland myself and didn't watch all the same matches as you guys though I am eager to jump into new territories. I so had to look up that Buddy Rose ring sinking match. Just wow. I love how they continue to try wrestle as they sinking into the earth almost. The wheelbarrow of belts was great visual. George Wells had a big difference in body type as this guy is in much better shape than his WrestleMania 2 match. They seemed to be destined for a really long match until heel issues at the end. The announcer referring to "count outs" for pinfalls was throwing me off. Adonis is so slim! It is hard for me to accept him as a face. Hmm, no match. Buddy must have fast forwarded and deleted this since he wasn't wrestling in match. The arm wrench 10 count spot seems to be a big thing for this era with Stasiak using it in Portland. Does Portland have the oldest live crowd for their shows? Like the average age had to be 87 here. Must have been the reason they didn't stick around with their fan base just dying off naturally. Piper battling the inferno while Frank Bonnema was just laughing about it was a hoot. Needed a run in by Firebreaker Chip. Frank had the whole blue tooth thing going with the extra mic. He must have been doing on an air podcast with Super 8.

[1990-WWF] "So Close To The Real Thing, It's Like Being In The Ring!"
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Did anyone collect those WWF thumb wrestlers? Had a bunch of those such as Hogan, Iron Sheik, Hillbilly Jim and Junkyard Dog. I managed to not get my thumb dislocated in competitive battle. I wasn't so lucky when playing Dodgeball.- 25 replies

Based off on my current viewing projects and in no particular order. Bob Backlund I loved his 94 heel run in WWF but have been really enjoying his initial title reign from late 70's on. He wasn't much of a promo which does make his 94 run really seem more impressive as he nailed the crazy middle aged guy perfectly. I enjoy him as a face though in his earlier run and really mark out for his great feats of strength segments during his matches. Dominic Denucci Had one of the most out of nowhere breakout matches against Iron Sheik that had me jumping out of my seat. This dude was crazy! I can understand now why Mick Foley almost paralyzed himself after being trained by Dominic Bret Hart His 1997 run is one of my top years for a guy in the ring and on the mic. Some great matches with Austin early on and his promos on Raw were must see and very captivating. The 20 minute promo to open Raw became way overdone as the years past on but Bret's was must see TV. And his run in the King of the Ring tournament is probably my favorite for a tournament. Doink the Clown I know lots of folks are big on Borne's run in WWF. But really you watch this guy and he's the perfect over the top character while being a real good wrestler in WWF. I don't know what legs the character would have had long term but I wish Borne had got a bigger push up the card. Jim Duggan 1993 might have been his best year in WWF with his feud/promos with Yokozuna to his matches with Shawn. Combine this with his stuff from Mid South I've been watching and it really feels like WWF could have done more with the guy during his run.

Hate is too strong of a word for me to vote against Inoki at this point so I'm still undecided. Plus I have a big chin. But my favorite moment of his is definitely getting dumped on his head by Vader in that awesome German release suplex. Other stuff I've seen from him as been pretty boring though. There were so many other guys I'd rank ahead of him on NJPW 80's set. I have to watch more 70's stuff of him but when I think of him versus Baba, I'm a much bigger fan of Shohei.

I was randomly watching some WWF MSG from 1975 and I just love the MSG crowds. The Spectrum crowds were awesome in the violence lusting way but I just so enjoy watching an MSG crowd from the day. Anyways, there was this female fan at an MSG show that was just going completely crazy for the good guys. I could not keep my eyes off her as she was just cheering like a mad woman. There was even an exchange with her and some dude who was sitting across from the entrance aisle were I have to say she was probably screaming at this guy to shut the fuck up as he was probably rooting for the heels. I so wanted to party with her in NYC after watching a show at MSG.

Shoe's racism is charming. Just kidding. Hogan looked so huge compared to those jobbers. Two against one and they got nothing against him. So was Parv's example of starting your podcast and not being under the shadow a lesson towards Kelly?! I was hoping for a tearful promo by Kelly wanting to prove himself as podcast lead host. Pete, I have your back!!! I don't get why people disliked the last Backlund/Duncum match so much. Super (8) heated start in this one. Loved Bob taking it to Duncum at the beginning. This finish hurt it for me with the blood stoppage and Duncum not winning the title. More I think about this one it is strange to see Duncum walk out with the win but Backlund seems to be moving on to Patera. I don't like to look ahead at match listings so maybe there is more to Bob/Duncum but doesn't feel the case. Patterson/Albano was too short for me. Patterson needed to get more in though I did get a kick out of Albano doing the whole Memphis hiding the object. Albano needed to do some jobs with him being just a manager. Haha! I've totally noticed during these segments that Vince would blink a ton! The crotch over the ropes is the big move to a stretcher job. Inoki got beat up with that move against Backlund. Loved James Bruno's hair piece comment as was totally noticing that during promo. John Buford! Played a huge role in Gettysburg battle by selecting the high ground in the field of battle for the Union's benefit. I love the Dominic Dennuci middle aged and crazy angle. Really liked Backlund versus Patera. I love the idea of legitimate record setting weight lifter Patera versus underrated strength guy in the ring Backlund. I'm sort of in Parv's corner about Backlund completely recking Patera's arm in this match and not going anywhere. But there did enough rest of the way for me to still really enjoy it. Great that everyone loved the Larry/Bruno segments/match. This was some fantastic TV. My initial thought was damn I wish they stretched this out a few more weeks before the turn. But more I thought about it they probably would have done some tag matches with miscommunication and stuff that made things too obvious. Larry makes such a convincing case as to why he wants to face Bruno in a match. Why wouldn't any athlete want to prove themselves to be the best? I really liked the match and though it was a perfect example of how Bruno probably could have worked a different style than his heavy punch/kick combination. The turn was executed so awesomely with Larry finally have enough of things and attacking Bruno with the chair. Bruno lying down face first in his own blood was an amazing visual. And he gets stretchered out lying on his stomach! Looking forward big time to this angle playing out the rest of 80.

First off. You have a Khawk type gif in your signature that I could get lost in watching over and over. As far as DiBiase being WWF champion at this time I felt it was more him buying the belt off Andre from Saturday Night Main Event and not so much as him being champion going forward at WrestleMania. As mentioned by others, WWF almost always had a go home face winning final match on their PPVs. Andre won the Survivor Series tag match in 87 leading up to all this so I can't see them going with another heel walking out with title months later at WrestleMania. I think it wasn't until Royal Rumble 92 that a heel walked out as winner in final match on PPV. And not until WrestleMania 2000 that you had a heel win final match in a WrestleMania.
-
Yeah, those 87 and 88 tag team Survivor Series matches were really good. I'll go with the 2001 WWF versus Alliance as a pretty good one too. As far as Survivor Series elimination matches I'm probably going with Aja Kong, Bison Kimura, Madusa Miceli, Tarantula & Xochilt Hamada vs Manami Toyota, Mariko Yoshida, Kaoru Maeda, Mika Takahashi & Esther Moreno, Hamada's UWF 11/17/90 as my favorite outside WWF.

Bravo! I'm very impressed that you made it all the way through. You actually got me into tracking down some of this stuff as I subscribed to a Death of WCW youtube channel. Anyways, well done, take a break but hopefully you have another wrestling viewing project in the works down the road.

[1993-06-14-NJPW-Explosion Tour] Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs Osamu Kido
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1993
Bit of a weird submission to finish things. Fujiwara seems to be pulling back on Kido's arm with a leg but it looks a bit awkward.- 14 replies

[1993-06-13-WWF-King of the Ring] Bret Hart vs Bam Bam Bigelow
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1993
I dislike referees/officials coming down and reversing decisions but the placement of this was in middle of match so after the action the proceeding this I barely remembered it. Bigelow looked great and seemed like he could be a strong upper carder on the heel side. Love the victory roll finish especially since it plays a part in my favorite match in 94. Hart wins three matches with different finishes. What a night for him. Well, until Jerry shows up and clocks him. Lawler was laying in some of those shots.- 10 replies

[1993-06-13-WWF-King of the Ring] Hulk Hogan vs Yokozuna
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1993
Always love looking at the face of that super Hogan fan after Yoko drops the leg and and pins Hulk. I'm amazed Hogan never had a Japanese photographer show up in WCW so he could get his heat back. Enjoyable post match to see Hogan get squashed and buried.- 10 replies

[1993-06-13-WWF-King of the Ring] Bret Hart vs Mr Perfect
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1993
I still feel like I enjoy the Summerslam match more if I were just to watch them alone back to back. As part of the whole King of the Ring tournament and Bret wrestling three matches in one night, then I can really get into this one. They could have turned Perfect heel during this with some of his actions but Bret was vicious in his own way with the uppercut and suplexing Perfect to the floor outside. They both wanted to win bad and it helped make the tournament mean a lot more.- 12 replies

[1993-06-13-WWF-King of the Ring] Bret Hart vs Razor Ramon
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1993
Bret is announced as the number one seed of the tournament so that would make Razor number 8? He’s got to be ranked higher than Hughes and Duggan. The loss to 123 Kid must have affected his ranking big. Anyways, I loved the initial King of the Ring tournaments. Very good match to start tournament and set Bret on his way for the night. Sequence with Bret reversing out of the Razor’s Edge, flipping over and then almost get that super close pinfall attempt that Razor kicked was very nice. Think I would have had that as the finish. Yeah, the 15 minute opening round time limit forces guys to work faster matches which is works in a tournament setting.- 10 replies

[1993-06-12-WCW-Saturday Night] Ric Flair, Arn Anderson and Hollywood Blonds

They cut away too quick! After the other silliness in WCW, we get some hatred between all four guys.- 5 replies
