Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I had low expectations on this one as I knew they would go heavy on PPV matches already released. This will be a pass for me. As mentioned in other posts they have been putting a lot of duplicates on their DVD/Blu Ray releases. War Games Blu Ray was pretty good though as had enough stuff that hasn't been released before. It's too bad the Best of Raw set sold poorly as I was looking forward to them covering 95/96. -
I can only imagine how much stuff will be cut from this set. Such a big year for many of the wrestling groups. Plus you get long matches and the start of the long promos with Hart Foundation/Michaels/Austin. I'm cool with some of the matches mentioned as being cut/edited since I own them on DVD and can just pop them in if needing to watch whole thing. I've never seen Vader/Shamrock so I'm intrigued on that one. The Hart Foundation set released by Will is great but I hope that doesn't give reason to cut down on their stuff in Yearbook.

Larry calls Huckster and Nacho Man a couple of sells out. WWF has been having fun with the woman's shoe bit. Larry asks how's Liz and both answer at the same time which is a good one. The sound effects were goofy but they worked when Larry pulled out the women's shoe to intimidate Huckster.

[1996-02-26-WWF-Raw] Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels & Roddy Piper
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
Piper mentions he doesn't like the crowd booing Bret. I wasn't hearing them myself. Bret talks about a tough five months lately getting beat up by tall guys. Shawn responds that he got beat up by nine guys. Anyways, Piper doesn't want the title match to end in some type of fluke. So he sets up a one hour Ironman match. Both Shawn and Bret are cool with that. -
Year 96 was her peak with managing the consecutive Tag champions and being the most downloaded woman on AOL. She had the looks but the charisma definitely put her over the top.

Real stiff and the ringside mics made it sound so good. That face paint on Anjo’s forehead makes for a great target for Hashimoto. Crowd loves their Hash.

Dean seemed to be doing his own thing and really only made a difference when he was in there with Guerrero. Otani’s team was dominating until Otani slacked off a bit and got drop kicked in the knee. Samurai’s team seem to delight in beating on Otani at this point. Him reaching for the ropes only to repeatedly get kicked in the hand by Guerrero and Hamada was fun. Another good match and I'm enjoying watching Otani again.

[1996-02-24-USWA-TV] Bill Dundee, PG-13 & Jerry Lawler
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
Whoa. I thought the firing thing was just an angle. What a suit being worn by Dundee. Bill with some more abuse for his son making jokes about how long it took for Jamie to get a drivers license. Tough dad. Need to read Meltzer to find out the back story! I do wonder how many of the fans knew the legit behind the scenes story. -
I wish they played up War Games gimmick more but once everyone got in the ring it was good enough. That table was real sturdy with Wing coming off the tope of the cage and it not breaking. He could have broke a rib or two the way he landed on the edge of it. The ladder was of the flimsy SMW kind.

[1996-02-19-WCW-Nitro] Ric Flair vs Randy Savage
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
Flair has been looking so confident in the ring. Him and Savage have another good match with Flair hitting some hard shots. I couldn't tell what Sullivan was doing at the end running around. I thought he was just trying to steal the shoe for himself before Hogan got in his way. Booty Man joins up with Hogan/Savage so I guess him being on the wrong side of Hogan for almost a year and a half is forgotten.- 12 replies

[1996-02-18-WWF-In Your House VI] Bret Hart vs Diesel (Cage)
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
Diesel is slowly dominating most of the action that is shown. Diesel is about to escape cage and win but Undertaker comes through the ring apron and drags Diesel underneath. The finishes in the matches against Undertaker and Diesel have not been good to Bret. Not a way for a face champion to be book going into the next big show. Match has been set for WrestleMania between Bret and Shawn. -
[1996-02-18-WWF-In Your House VI] Shawn Michaels vs Owen Hart
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
The prematch video package starts off with Todd Pettingill saying “Shawn will never quit.” Ha. Shawn goofing off and having fun at the beginning of match doesn’t set well since Owen was the one who supposedly almost ended his career. Owen puts an end to the silliness with a perfectly timed belly to belly suplex. From there match gets really good and the enzigiri is nailed but Michaels manages to end up outside the ring. Good enough delay for him to kick out when Owen gets Shawn back in the ring. Nice finishing sequence and Shawn is off to WrestleMania.- 17 replies

[1996-02-17-USWA-TV] PG-13 vs Tracy Smothers & Jesse James Armstrong
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
Brandon Baxter. Has the look alone that would want fans to see him get beat up. This match was excellent. I like how they get more TV time for matches in 96. The false finishes with PG-13 continuing to avoid all the heel cheating situations was really well done. I was convinced they were going to lose somehow but they pull out the win thanks to Baxter bad managing skills. James ends up getting kicked off the team which is too bad as wanted to see more of this James/Smothers team.- 12 replies

[1996-02-17-ECW-Cyberslam] 2 Cold Scorpio vs Sabu
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
I don’t know how Sabu was able to walk around after crushing his leg against the guardrail on the moonsault to the outside. I do go up and down on my feelings about this match after each watch. It felt more fresh this time around with the benefit of watching it in yearbook setting and agreed that Scorpio made a strong opponent for Sabu.- 7 replies

[1996-02-17-ECW-Cyberslam] Interview: Brian Pillman
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
Styles puts over the Internet convention going on in the Arena. Lights go off and Pillman is in the ring. Crowd loving it. Pillman has been fired from WCW and he runs down Bischoff. It may have not amounted to much in ECW but fun to see. Pillman calls the fans a bunch of marks. Segment went too long when Douglas got involved and Pillman beat up that "fan".- 11 replies

Kawada had a real glazed looked after taking that Albright German suplex. He then ends up taking a vicious Lariat too. That will be put him down.

The interviewer must be the Mexican version of Dave Brown as he towers over the wrestlers. Charles looked like a smaller Terry Gordy. Charles was easily the standout for his team. Second fall action was all over the place. Would have been interesting to see this go the full three falls but still ends up being a really good match.

Agreed on the camera work looking great with guys lunging into the screen shot to break up close pinfall attempts. Though they decided to go with a long distant camera shot of the finish. Kanemoto was getting some of Otani's rub as being an asshole.

[1996-02-12-WCW-Nitro] Hulk Hogan vs Arn Anderson
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
Bischoff runs down a list of the celebrities that love Nitro. Hogan’s eye is looking silly. Arn used up all his timeouts. Ax Bomber by Hogan. Here’s Flair and Miss Elizabeth! Flair tries to grab a chair from ringside but nobody is accommodating. Is that figure four/small package a Hogan invention? Woman throws some powder into Hogan’s face. Nick Patrick walking through the cloud of it in the air and not thinking much was wrong was hilarious. Well maybe it’s actually good officiating since he didn’t see it happen in first place. Anderson gets the win by pinfall!! Hogan has to try get his heat back right away by beating up Flair and Anderson. So Arn got a win over Hogan before Flair?- 12 replies

[1996-02-12-WCW-Nitro] Interview: Ric Flair, Woman & Elizabeth
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
Heel Elizabeth interviews aren't much better. Flair is missing his tie. Ric was great getting all psyched up and strutting. Elizabeth talks about taking half of everything Savage has owned. Liz gets some extending talking time there.- 12 replies

Some good action with some minor sloppiness at times. I didn't even realize this was a handicap match until seeing the match listing after. Fine spot fest but the big tag team elimination Joshi match from 1990 was so much better than this.
