[1991-06-12-NJPW-Fighting Connection] Jushin Liger vs Norio Honaga
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
I was thinking how Honaga hadn’t tried to rip Liger’s mask yet and at that moment he make the signal to try rip it. Need a replay of Honaga’s missed dive to the outside as looked like he went head first into guard rail. I liked it but both guys wrestled more straight up match. Very little hijinks from Honaga which hurts his overall package. Still a good match but not the hate of previous matches. Nice to see Liger win with his top rope DDT. -
[1991-06-09-UWF-Beach Brawl] Steve Williams vs Bam Bam Bigelow
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
What a fight. I’m partial to the Hart/Bam Bam matches but this is one of the better Bigelow singles matches that I can recall. Part of me wanted a few more minutes as the finish kind of surprised me. But with the length of match we got a good brawl with little down time.- 10 replies

Better with Pillman involved over Big Josh. Pillman and Anderson more involved but it is still about Eaton and Flair with brawling getting out of control and leading to no contest.

Dusty tries to get Arn to talk about the World Title and Ric Flair but Anderson is having none of that. Heyman joins up after and looks like he really wants to beat up Hervey. Jason is very annoying and Dusty comes off heelish just standing beside him.

[1991-06-08-WCW-Saturday Night] Missy's Manor: Johnny B. Badd & Teddy Long
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
Long was more surprising here the way he was holding Badd’s hand going to the ring and talking about how pretty Johnny is. Paul was taking plenty of shots at Missy on commentary.- 8 replies

Yep, Josh was such a random partner in all this. Flair and Eaton had a good little stretch of action with them slugging it out. The 2 out of 3 falls for the clash match make it interesting.

[1991-06-08-USWA-Memphis TV] Ta-Gar, Lord of the Volcanoes
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
Fancy special effects. I'm hoping for a feud with Cowabunga. -
I was laughing with Embry talking about beating up Jarrett and Robert Fuller, making fun of Lawler for being in a wheelchair, Miss Texas, Tony Anthony and the Dirty White Girl and then he moves on to the Gilberts. Think he would have got the whole roster in but Lawler shows up in a kingly outfit. Of course after all the crap Embry has been saying about Lawler the first thing he says to Jerry’s face is “he ain’t got no beef with him.” Embry phony look on his face not knowing what Lawler was so made about was great. Good job not having them come to blows right away as Embry takes off.

Refreshing to see USWA-TX do a match without gimmicks. I wasn’t thrilled with the chain use earlier in match but it doesn’t remain a focus. Not much of a fan of Davis but he gives a good effort. Embry hits a couple big moves but Davis keeps coming back. Eric ends up getting a desperation pin with the use of the ropes. I was able to enjoy the second part of match without the useless gimmicks from some of the previous USWA-TX matches.

[1991-06-03-WWF-MSG, NY] Hulk Hogan vs Sgt. Slaughter (Desert Storm)
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
Hogan has his street fight fatigues on and is wearing a mask. No referee in the ring which is good since there are no rules. The announcers continue to play up the war talk. A different looking Hogan here as he mixes it up and does not do the normal routine. The best of the three Hogan/Slaughter matches I have seen from 1991. Would have been cool to see this as the WrestleMania main event. There was more hate in this match and stipulations allowed them to just go at it.- 19 replies

Horsemen just faded away. Morton in the corner of Dustin and Eaton. Arn wants Alexandre to get on her computer to get some tips during the match. Wow. The computer ends up telling Morton to take a hike and he leaves ringside. Alright tag match with Dustin picking up the win. He wants some of Mr. Hughes but York stops that from happening.

Jason Hervey with a voodoo doll. He starts stabbing it which causes One Man Gang to feel pain. This segment was awful.- 8 replies

[1991-06-01-WCW-Power Hour] Danger Zone: York Foundation
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
Ricky Morton is guest on the Danger Zone. Crowd seems iffy to him. York Foundation show up and they offer Ricky Morton a position. Morton wants to look over the contract. Dustin then interrupts and wants to know what Morton is doing. Ricky gives a very logical answer about just wanting to look it over and see if it is good offer.- 7 replies

Being out of the studio and being by himself helped make this promo better. Embry seemed more focused with not having an announcer interrupting him. He’s ready to welcome Lawler back as he wants to face him again and this type put him out for good.

[1991-06-01-USWA-Memphis TV] Eric Embry vs Doug Gilbert
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
Guys hitting big moves but not going for pins it seems. Looks like they were just trying to punish each other. It was interesting to see Doug weakly punching at Tojo in the corner while Eddie was slugging it out with Embry. The camera was rightfully more focused on Gilbert/Embry at that point. -
[1991-06-01-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler and Miss Texas
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
Lawler was quick to strike Miss Texas back and floor her with the slap. Looked bad with her just lying there at first. The announcers making excuses for Lawler added to it being uncomfortable. -
[1991-06-01-WWF-Superstars] Earthquake, Jimmy Hart and Andre the Giant
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
Jimmy runs down all the way to the entrance so Andre can use him to balance as he walks to the ring. Earthquake and Andre would have been a cool tag team. Andre finally gets on the wrong side of a manager as Jimmy was smart enough to have his wrestler there. Andre can barely move but still does a believable job of selling the leg injury. -
[1991-06-01-WWF-Superstars] Interview: Roddy Piper & Virgilina
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
Yeah, they don't show this one in the history video packages of this feud. Bad idea to try go in this direction for a feud that has been built over time to be very personal. Good job it was quickly dropped. -
[1991-06-01-AJPW-Super Power Series] Steve Williams vs Toshiaki Kawada
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
I find myself somewhere in the middle when it came to this. Liked Kawada in it with him reversing an Oklahoma Stampede to the ringpost and powerslamming Williams on the floor. My problem with the finish is Williams hit the same move to Kawada on the floor earlier in match and it looked more devastating then. I thought it was kind of weak for Kawada to lose in the ring to that move though.- 11 replies

[1991-06-01-AJPW-Super Power Series] Mitsuharu Misawa vs Terry Gordy
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in June 1991
Editing off the first few minutes probably worked out for the best. Gordy looks good here and him and Misawa trade big moves. Ended up being a good match with some exciting sequences towards the end. Misawa picks up another big singles win on his way to the top.- 13 replies

Plenty of powerslams in this match including an inverted type one where Rick almost dropped Sasaki on his head. Plenty of highspots that you would expect from these guys. I would have put the Super DDT as the finish. Scott hits the Frankensteiner and does a fist bump before going for the pin. Kind of anticlimactic. Better match than what we got a Superbrawl.

[1991-05-31-NJPW-Heavy Crush] Jushin Liger vs Norio Honaga
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in May 1991
Honaga does not like masks. I was a bit worried once Liger got the mask ripped that he would spend most of the match trying to cover his face and fix the mask. But he's pissed off and just takes it off himself! Liger makes good use of a chair and bloodies up Honaga. He's trying to practically rip Honaga's face off at times. I thought they screwed up the finish with Honaga putting his hands on the ropes with the referee right there. But on rematch it was a legit pinfall. He manages to pull out another win on Liger. Looking forward to more from them.- 13 replies
