One of my favourite things about Bret is how he had a different moveset for when he was competing against bigger guys. He would bust out more flying/aerial offence like the flying bulldog, flying clothesline and running dropkick. Bret is definitely in and around my top 10. Would love to see a more in depth Bret/Corro comparison...

He doesn't have to dress up like the Rock or anything but surely they could avoid having him look like actual turd...the color just did not flatter his figure. That's the point. Mankind is a digusting freak that lived in the boiler room and tore out his hair. He was the company's Quasimodo. He wasn't supposed to appear flattering in the slightest. And it got over. See, that is kind of hypocritical. The original post has IRS being taken to task on his ring attire, but that is the point of IRS, he is a pencil pushing evil taxman. Then another post has mentions of all those characters in the 90s that dressed up like their occupation would demand like Duke the Dumpster. That stuff made sense for their characters but its okay for people to rip on them for it but Mankind gets a pass because he's supposed to be a freak? Pick a lane and stick to it, people. There are lots of people posting in this thread, and we all probably have different opinions about things. It isn't hypocritical if JRH criticises IRS's gear, and me or Fando defend Mankind's gear. It's just different people saying different things. Anyway, my response to this would be that it's really a stretch to think that if a garbage man decided to become a wrestler on the side, he'd wear his garbage man uniform to compete in, presumably to remind everyone of what his day job is. On the other hand, a mentally disturbed person not giving a shit what they look like when wrestling seems pretty likely.

I think Brock starting the rumble and cutting through maybe half the field would be fun as fuck, and give the rumble a whole different feel. You can tell a couple of different stories within that as well- maybe give a lower card guy a bit of shine before eventually getting tossed, which would make him look good, maybe have New Day or another team try to double or triple team him, have a mini clash of the titans type thing with someone who wouldn't be hurt by coming out on the short end of it (someone like a Titus O'Neill or Luke Harper or Mark Henry). And then finally you get a Rusev type who can come out and go toe to toe with him, and the ring can start to fill up a bit. I think that would get over huge.

The original Mankind look was great. No business being mentioned in this thread for my money. Billy Gunn had some terrible outfits. I hated Saturn's Marilyn Manson-inspired look too.

Zack Ryder was a douche-y guy, so he had douche-y ring gear. Jarrett's was ridiculous but it kinda worked for him. The problem was you couldn't take him too serious while he wrestled in that. But then, when he came back with the more straight forward look, he was just too bland to take seriously anyway. So, I prefer the prior look.

She was a great babyface, but I was also surprised how much I enjoyed her as a shitkicking heel in the 90s.

I see him as a rich man's Bruno. Is definitely someone who will have a shot at the bottom quarter of my ballot.

Even though it turned out he was a complete psychotic, I can understand why Backlund turned heel on Bret after their match. Bret wasn't being very gracious about winning that match.

I give Trish lots of credit for working hard, taking her craft seriously, improving a shit tonne, and for being an underrated bump freak (seriously, when you think of 2000s diva who takes needlessly reckless bumps you probably think Lita, but Trish was a gamer too). But, realistically, if Molly was given the push and focus Trish was she'd have had just as many, if not more, good matches. There's probably other girls from the era you could say the same about too.

JBL and his Cabinet. Edge and La Familia. Orton and Legacy. I mean, it's not really rare.

R-Truth turning heel on John Morrison was about as justified as it gets.

You got this, man.

Women's tennis is pretty much on equal footing with men's. I mean, I've heard just as often that people don't like watching the men as people don't like watching the women. Usually they're just taken as a combo. Serena and Sharapova are probably both in the top 5 most popular/well-known tennis stars.

I would have turned Luger heel, and had him win the 1995 Rumble to set that up as the Mania match. Michaels wasn't ready to main event yet, and Luger was being wasted by this point.

Myers was very talented, and I think could have easily got over in the States or Japan had he travelled. Really athletic guy, with perhaps the best 'cartwheel to avoid opponent' I've ever seen (or maybe 1a behind Porky). Good technical skills, could hang with just about anybody, and a good range of strikes. I didn't like the Iron Fist gimmick either, but I think he made it work. Good personality too. Really would have loved to have seen him in some different environments, as I'm convinced he would have excelled, and having good matches with Kobayashi or Hamada in Japan could have guaranteed him a spot on my ballot.

You're not joking about that tope, OJ. Holy shit. I started with the Cruz match, and he just murders him (and almost himself) three different times with that thing. The combination of speed, velocity and just a general disregard for the wellbeing of himself, his opponent, and anyone sitting in the first half a dozen rows have made this pretty much my favourite move ever. Outside of the tope, I found Ramirez at his best to be a really dynamic worker, a good brawler, with enough charisma to carry a match. Had I been as high on his other matches as I was on the Cruz hair match (mainly thinking of the Felino matches, which I found a bit disappointing), I could see popping him on my ballot somewhere. That, plus a general scarcity of footage makes it a tough sell. That tope though...

I prefer early, baby-faced and baby-fat lucha armdrags and Euro chain wrestling Hero to later Japanese strong style tribute act Hero. The former is a small-time act, but it's an endearing one and could produce fun matches. The latter is pretty grating. Part of the problem is that, despite his size, Hero just doesn't look like an intimidating guy, so him playing this badass just strikes an odd chord. Then there's the constant thigh slapping. Not every strike (and there are plenty of them) needs to make a slapping sound, and elbows certainly shouldn't. Still, he's a charismatic guy, who never seems to have a problem getting fans into his matches. No chance of making my list.

Just a drop in the ocean in terms of pro-wresting debacles, and not something that had any long-term consequences apart from maybe costing a few rookies some exposure, but the way the whole 'Genesis of McGillicutty' thing went down was just hilariously bad from start to finish.

Things A Smart Wrestler Should Never Do...

Never interfere in a number one contenders match for the belt you hold. Your plan to make sure you have no challenger will only result in you defending in a triple threat match. -

Run towards someone who is standing by the ropes in a battle royal. -
I really enjoyed taking a look at Buddy, and wish I could have found more stuff. I guess that's the only thing that could keep him off my list. Surprised how good a squash match worker he was. Really looked good bullying guys. Great as a lesser of two evils babyface too.

If something good came out of this mess, it's that Loss decided to submit a ballot. There are only a small handful of people whose ballots I would be interested in seeing, and would take seriously, and he is definitely on that list. Otherwise, the only thing that matters to me about this project is my own personal journey and my own personal discoveries, leading to my own personal ballot. Why would I care that voter X picked his favourite indie worker at number 43 because he responded to his banter once, or his favourite joshi worker at number 67 because she looks cute when she's mad? My interest in the cumulative list is pretty much restricted to the fun of the reveal. Just like the DVDVR movie polls, I enjoy the countdowns to see where my favourites ranked, for some good-natured arguing over placement, and to see pretty pictures, but the real benefit of the project is making new discoveries and sorting out for myself my approach to ranking films.

Your Most Hated World Title Reign in History
Yo-Yo's Roomie replied to JaymeFuture's topic in Pro Wrestling
I thought the first half of Punk's long reign was the best in-ring babyface reign since Bret in 94. From memory, it was only the Elimation Chamber match that disappointed. The defenses against Bryan, Jericho and Henry in particular all delivered the goods. I actually think it was the post-heel turn portion of the reign that was disappointing, mainly because Punk was injured for so much of it. He didn't seem to regain his spark until the feud with The Rock, and that was the end of the line. -
Shit, isn't the Windham/Pillman taped fist match sub 10? Did that get mentioned already? Edit: Yep. Elliott got it.

BW himself has to be up there. Eaton is another no-brainer candidate.
