  1. I think appearance matters, but regardless, I get the impression this thread is just supposed to be a bit of fun.
  2. I think it's largely a pacing issue. You'd often get eliminations that feel too rushed, but sometimes it would go the other way and things would get dragged out too much. When you have 8 or 10 guys (or 20) who all want to do a little something in the match, it can become a little tedious. I think it's also harder to work traditional tag team sequences (face in peril, being the main example) into a match with that many people, which can leave things feeling a bit unsatisfying. I guess all this means that the workers involved either couldn't, or weren't motivated to, find a way to put together an exciting or interesting match within the format, with a few exceptions. I think it says something that my top two matches so far are more "workrate-y", more action-packed than what you might normally find. But they don't really feel rushed, I guess is the key. They got the balance right.
  3. The appeal is definitely in seeing guys interact with each other that usually wouldn't. Despite being disappointed with most of the matches I've watched so far, I still would like to see a return to that format.
  4. The real question is who is the better masked man between Vader and Giant Machine.
  5. I'm going through all the Survivor Series now, and so far (I'm up to 2000) my top three traditional Survivor Series tags are The Underdogs Vs The Body Donnas (1995), Razor Ramon's team Vs IRS's team (1993) and Hogan and Savage's team Vs The Twin Towers' team (1988) in that order. Generally speaking, I've found the format not conducive to having good matches.
  6. I disagree on Austin Vs Shawn. To me, Shawn took a good while to get comfortable working heel, and as a single, whereas Austin very much looked a guy comfortable with his character. Both obviously were bags of potential, but I think Austin was more the finished product than Shawn at that point. Might be interesting to look at this in closer detail, as well as some of the other comparisons here. Hell, I'd be interested to see this done for other years. Cool thread.
  7. RVD in 2001. He was so hot during the Invasion angle, and I could definitely see him succeeding as the lead face as they phased out the 90s stars, had they struck while the iron was hot.
  8. That Factions countdown was weird. The Brood at number 2? I wasn't watching wrestling for the totality of their run, and wouldn't have guessed they were so fondly remembered. AJ is always super annoying on these things, and Summer Rae's bits sound really artificial.
  9. Where do some of you find the time? Don't you sleep?

Drew McIntyre was the other wrestler involved in the Del Rio bar fight, leading to me really wanting to see a Del Rio/Drew Mac tag team.
  11. Meaningless and totally forgettable match, but I was really surprised Kane went over Orton a couple of years ago.
  12. This was my top 25 (I did this prior to WM28, fyi): 1. Bret/Austin 2. Bret/Owen 3. Savage/Warrior 4. Rock/Austin (17) 5. Bret/Piper 6. Savage/Flair 7. Shawn/Taker (26) 8. Rock/Austin (19) 9. Bret/Shawn 10. Hogan/Savage 11. Shawn/Razor 12. Christian/Jericho 13. Steamboat/Savage 14. Taker/Flair 15. Hardys/Dudleys/Edge and Christian (17) 16. Taker/Edge 17. Money in the Bank (21) 18. Hogan/Slaughter 19. Orton/Punk 20. Taker/Batista 21. Edge/Foley 22. Money in the Bank (24) 23. Taker/Orton 24. Rockers/Barbarian and Haku 25. Show/Mayweather
  13. I did a big ranking of every WrestleMania match a couple of years ago. This was my bottom 15: 257. Tag team battle royal (WrestleMania 14) 258. Red Rooster Vs Bobby Heenan (WrestleMania 5) 259. Ultimate Warrior Vs Hercules (WrestleMania 4) 260. Gimmick battle royal (WrestleMania 17) 261. Diva battle royal (WrestleMania 25) 262. 10-diva tag match (WrestleMania 26) 263. Sable Vs Tori (WrestleMania 15) 264. Akebono Vs Big Show (WrestleMania 21) 265. Andre the Giant Vs Big John Studd (WrestleMania 1) 266. Butterbean Vs Bart Gunn (WrestleMania 15) 267. Maria and Ashley Vs Melina and Beth Phoenix (WrestleMania 24) 268. Melina Vs Ashley (WrestleMania 23) 269. Terri Vs The Kat (WrestleMania 16) 270. Fabulous Moolah Vs Velvet McIntyre (WrestleMania 2) 271. Miller Lite cat fight (WrestleMania 19)
  14. Didn't JR always say WCW were stupid not to make Muta a babyface during his first run, based on how good looking he was, and what a hit he was with the ladies?
  15. You've got a tag title match, possibly a divas title match, and whatever they do with the Shield and Kane too, so that's potentially 7 matches plus the battle royal. Seems about right.
  16. Going on instinct. I have an excel sheet, and just slotting matches in as I watch them. It's far from perfect, but I find ranking matches really hard anyway, so I think no matter which way I go about it I would never be completely satisfied. I plan on rewatching my top 10 or maybe top 20 when I'm done with the set so at least I can get that into an order I'm somewhat willing to stand by.
  17. I believe Max Moon was an optimus-primivist.
  18. JBL, Joey Styles and Matt Striker are vocal republicans. Warrior too, obviously.

I'm waiting for that long-ass Triple H beatdown of Bryan. You know the one I'm talking about. Where it ends with him standing behind a dude cradling their head and raining down punches on their forehead until they're a bloody mess. And it's always really slow and methodical. It's coming.
  20. Thanks for the help but I tried that but it didn't work. Edit: Just got it to work. Thanks everyone for all the help. Yeah, got mine working too, so ditto on the thanks.
  21. Any Roku users finding big gaps in the ppv catalogue, ie no ppvs at all for certain years?
  22. I know people have done the drop down trip, but I see that as something different entirely. I think they're attempting to set up their opponent for something. I don't see it as bad wrestling, in any event. Just one of those things, like rope running in general, that I accept as part of the universe wrestling has created for itself.
  23. I never thought the drop down was to try to trip their opponent. Do other people think that? Seems it would be quite easy to trip an opponent who is coming off the ropes, and the drop down is about the least effective way to do it. I think it's just a tactical thing, to keep the opponent guessing, or maybe to make them second guess themselves.
  24. I used to keep it to myself, and be quite embarrassed about it, frankly, but now I don't give a shit who knows. If my wife could accept it, why should I care what anyone else thinks?
