John Cena vs. Randy Orton - They have set up Cena-Bray and I officially believe the reports for the Mania card earlier this week. The match wasn't bad. The fans were hilarious trolling the whole match. They went into finisher trading which sucked because that was the only way they could possibly get the crowd involved positively in the match. The finish was a nice set-up for Mania.

Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show - I thought this was a really excellent sprint. The mount shoot punches and the chairs before the bell were great. That KO punch was awesome and Brock's sell of it was really great. Show walking around tossing Brock with one arm and cursing him ruled. Of course, Brock's F5 was great. The post-match went on too long but it was effective.

Daniel Bryan vs. Bray Wyatt - That was a total hard hitting affair with some totally absurd bumps and spots. I liked it for the most part but Bray abandoning the leg selling and doing running senton's was annoying. The tornado DDT on the floor and Sister Abigail against the turnbuckle were both great spots. Bray winning was my prediction but I feel bad for Bryan.
-
Rhodes Brothers vs. New Age Outlaws - Shitty way to have the Rhodes' lose the tag belts. As far as the match goes, it was fun. Cody and Goldust did some of their signature spots and Billy Gunn threw good punches.

I agree with Will across the board. I'm playing it safe tonight on predictions.

I watched the lucha tag today. I liked it but I didn't think the mat work was nearly as good as some are saying, although it was very good. I hated the submission train. That's one of the worst spots in wrestling. I loved Virus in it though and thought he was especially great in the last fall when he changed gears.

I believe 22 Rumble spots have been announced. That leaves 8 spots which means a few surprises, maybe three, and the rest are guys from the roster just unannounced.

Cena-Sandow from 1/13 is a workrate match but I enjoyed it. I wouldn't call it great or even really good but it was fun and solid for a workrate match.

I will vote on this soon enough. I have to watch the CMLL stuff but Walker-Sigmon is awesome and everyone should check it out.
-
I need to re-watch the Wyatt's tag because I thought it lacked something. Although, I still enjoyed it.

Great news! I'm putting it on now!

I would love to. But I'm poor -
Building to Big E.-Lesnar? That's what it sounds like to me.

Wrestling New Years Resolutions <<2014 thread - No more resolutions here>>

Literally, in the last week I've been trying to think of ways to better properly manage my wrestling during the school semester. Here's what I've come up with: Every day, there's four categories of wrestling that I want to at least watch one match or video of: - Current wrestling, such as pimped matches that are nominated on WKO. (I watch Raw and SD every week so they don't count when it comes to this) - Watch stuff for the 80s sets I'm helping with. - Watch a match from the lucha set (I may have to start over but maybe not) - Watch a random match, promo, or angle on YouTube, Dailymotion, etc. from any time period If I can manage that every day I should be in pretty good shape and feel satisfied about my wrestling viewing. There are other projects I would like to work on as well: - The best of the WWE 2000s that I've been working on off and on for two years. - Wrestler spotlights which is when I pick a random wrestler and watch several of their matches online - Post more on here because I want to but never think up anything good to say. Or at least I think that. -
So a suplex is better than a high back body drop or a big lariat or a body slam even? It has to be a suplex?

Just finished listening to this. It was a great listen. I'd be interesting to go back and watch 96-97 Dustin/Goldust and see how those matches are. I'm wondering if he was good and no one was paying attention as you guys mentioned on the show.

Punk is great when he wants to be. A lot of that has to do if he's in a situation that he thinks is worth putting forth effort in. I like Punk. His matches and angles with Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, John Cena, Daniel Bryan and Brock Lesnar are all excellent. In all of those situations he seemed to be putting in a lot of effort. He doesn't seem to care in other situations like his matches and angles with Chris Jericho, the Rock, HHH, or Paul Heyman. As a worker he has terrible offense. Oftentimes, none of it looks effective at all. He can be pretty watchable on the mat, is a good brawler (oddly enough as I think his sloppiness works well within brawling context), and as a baby face working underneath can actually be excellent. Watch the Mark Henry, Daniel Bryan, and Brock Lesnar feuds and it's clear he's pretty good at selling. Otherwise, it's whether or not Punk cares.

Or you can leave your friends behind....

Regal vs. Cesaro is pretty great with Regal putting on another incredible performance. Imagine if he was wrestling on a full schedule.

For all the criticisms I've given Kurt Angle, I'll always be a fan of Kurt Angle the character. His cheesy Olympic gold medalist gimmick was great in 2000-2001 with some awesome segments with Stephanie, Jericho, Rock, Vince, and Austin. I loved how when he came back as a face in 2003 the fans would chant "You Suck!" at the heels during his entrance. "The Wrestling Machine" Kurt Angle was awesome and is the best thing Angle ever did in my opinion. The creep pervert and anti-American stuff had some comedy but otherwise was too ridiculous for my tastes. As a worker I think he was quite good in sprints. That's likely because of his working style but he put on some really fun matches with Rey Mysterio, Mark Henry, and John Cena in very short matches. I totally agree with some others that he's hurt severely by wrestling the same match with everyone but he does have great matches with Undertaker, Rock, and Austin in which most of those matches are unique in one way or another. Really, I was starting to enjoy his "Wrestling Machine" gimmick with matches against Mark Henry and Randy Orton. I think he had something there. His work in TNA has produced a few great matches, a few good matches, a few fun matches, and a lot of bad matches. His best stuff has been against Jarrett but I've enjoyed one of his Joe matches and also one of his Christian matches.

I got you. How far back are we talking here? Since the brand split? I'll give you some Drew Mac and Masters matches in this list too. John Cena vs. Edge (TLC Match) - Unforgiven 2006 John Cena vs. Umaga - New Year's Revolution 2005 (This is a great match and gets forgotten due to the better Rumble match but it's still well worth checking out). John Cena vs. HBK - Mania 23 John Cena vs. HBK - Raw in London (4/23?) John Cena vs. Great Khali - Judgment Day 2007 (Incredible Cena carry job) John Cena vs. Randy Orton - Summerslam 2007 HHH vs. Randy Orton (LMS) - No Mercy 2007 Christian vs. Jack Swagger - ECW (2/24/09) Christian vs. Jack Swagger - Backlash 2009 Legacy vs. HHH, Batista, Shane McMahon - Backlash 2009 Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio - Judgment Day 2009 Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio - Extreme Rules 2009 Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio - The Bash 2009 CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio (SES vs. Hair) - Over the Limit 2010 SD Elimination Chamber - No Way Out 2009 CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy - The Bash 2009 CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy (TLC) - Summerslam 2009 CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy (Cage) - SD after Summerslam 09 Christian vs. William Regal - Breaking Point 2009 Christian vs. William Regal - 8/25/09 (Not sure which show) Christian vs. Drew McIntyre - 8/17/10 Chris Masters vs. Drew McIntyre - 8/26/10 William Regal vs. Daniel Bryan - (Raw 12/20/10) Jerry Lawler vs. The Miz (TLC or Ladder?) - Raw 11/29/10 Jerry Lawler vs. The Miz - Elimination Chamber 2011 Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk - SD 2/12/10 William Regal vs. Goldust - (Superstars? 8/26/10) Chris Masters vs. Drew McIntyre - Superstars 5/12/11 Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton - Night of Champions 2011 William Regal vs. Dean Ambrose - FCW 10/13/11 Daniel Bryan vs. Mark Henry (Cage) - SD 11/29/11 William Regal vs. Kassius Ohno - NXT 3/21/13 There's great Chris Masters C-Show matches against Tyler Reks, maybe another Drew Mac match, Chavo Guerrero, Jack Swagger, among others. Drew Mac has great C-Show matches with Ted Dibiase Jr., John Morrison, Zack Ryder, a tag with Michael McGillicutty against maybe Air Boom (Evan Bourne/Kofi Kingston), and a few more great matches with Christian. Christian has great ECW matches with Tommy Dreamer, David Hart Smith, Paul Burchill, and Ezekiel Jackson. William Regal also has a great match with David Hart Smith from late 2010 on Superstars I believe. Daniel Bryan has a great series with Dolph Ziggler on PPV and TV from the Fall of 2010. I think they had a match at Bragging Rights 2010. The Goldust-Sheamus series from ECW in late summer of 09 is fantastic. There's been a tremendous amount of great matches this year on television including some awesome Goldust tags, and a large number of Antonio Cesaro matches including ones against Sami Zayn in a 2/3 falls on NXT, a great carry job against Kofi Kingston on Main Event in the spring, a great series against Sheamus in the summer, a great match against Daniel Bryan in the summer and so on and so forth. There's so much out there. Just type in Daniel Bryan, Chris Masters, Drew McIntyre, John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Christian, William Regal, Mark Henry, or Goldust from the last five years and you're likely to find something good to watch.

Wow, I mention the Benoit-Angle match offhand and it came to this? Anyways, my old computer has word documents of SD6 match reviews (all are Rey matches). Too bad the keyboard is inoperable or I'd post them here. I do remember thinking there were still several matches from the era that were very good. I've mentioned the under ten minute Angle-Rey match at SS 02 which is a great "cat and mouse" match with both Angle and Rey putting on great performances. I watched the No Mercy tag title tournament final too and thought it was very good. I wish I could elaborate more on that but I can't remember the details on my notes offhand. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed the 2/3 falls re-match from SD a few weeks after No Mercy more and I recall thinking it was a great match and one of the better matches of the SD6 era. The Edge-Eddie No DQ is a match I haven't seen in years but I loved it when I watched it on Eddie's DVD. However, I do confess I may have only caught most of the match as my brother Dustin was watching the DVD and I happened to walk in while it was on. Again, this was four or five years ago. I might want to re-visit that one. There are several Rey cruiser sprints that are extremely fun. Notably, he has a match with Tajiri, maybe his second televised match with the company, where he opens the match with a flying somersault senton on Tajiri. I LOVE Brock/Tajiri vs. Rey/Edge from October in the tag title tournament. Brock throwing Rey around and his interactions with Tajiri are outstanding. A-Train and Rey have an incredible four minute match on SD in early January after Rey's return from injury. Both guys are great in it. Angle and Rey have a great TV match on SD post-Rumble I think that has an awesome finish. It was something like Rey going for a springboard from the back and Angle catches him with a german suplex roll over for the pin. I don't know just trying to move this thread along better.

To be fair, Jeff Hardy is someone I might have on my list if I did a top 100 of 2006-2013. I just wouldn't have him even close to this high. The rest, well, not so much.
-
In my review I noted that there was no heat section. Angle started to work over Benoit's neck but completely abandoned it and they went into suplex, submission galore bullshit.
-
I did like the apron DDT in the match. I'd have to go back to my reviews in word documents to see if there was anything else I liked. EDIT: I found my review and seemed to like the first half of the match. There was body part work but it went nowhere and the last ten minutes were terrible. Angle did his pop-up turnbuckle suplex spot which I have always hated and then RIGHT AFTER that they went into submission trading.
